    "We open with a struggle session and own Felix for being too much of an actual dirtbag. The rest of the episode is our positive review of DC Comics' Wonder Woman, why neoconservatives love it, why Lebanon really banned it, and the missed opportunity of making it in the image of the original super horned-up creator. Amber named this episode."

    "That's the UCB-ification of theaters." And now UCB has almost completely gone under. It's gone from NY, it's barely in LA and this was before COVID. One of the founders, Matt Bessar, in response to complaints that they don't pay their house teams, said that performers should just feel honored to work there. It takes a real scumbag to demand that you take your payment in experience, but there's a special level of hell for theater owners who do it.

    "Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. • @SomethingImpromptu

    Just a reminder that the reason they made the villains use evil gas (& hence probably why they chose WWI, so they could do that) was because this was right around the time when the US State Dept & CIA & so on were trying to insist Assad was a mad-man who was gassing his own people randomly (even though he was winning the war by conventional means at the time & doing that would be one of the ONLY things he could do that would potentially give the US gov the excuse they wanted to get in there & overthrow the Syrian government… It’s probably not a coincidence that you had a former IDF soldier (Gal Gadot) participating in a propaganda piece intended to justify US war with Syria (a country who Israel has historically fought & stolen land from)… Syria under the Ba’ath Party is an ethnonationalist state similar in some respects to Israel, but it’s Arab ethnonationalism, so Israel doesn’t like that & sees them as a competitor on land they’d like to have as part of “Greater Israel,” along with Jordan & so on.

    to answer about it being heavy-handed propaganda: its for kids and to shape how their ethics/morals are developed. also to make joining the armed forces seem sexy and cool before developing critical thinking skills because they go to public schools and most likely won't get into college. if you found the morals that the movie are espousing repugnant, thats okay: you aren't the target demographic.
    it doesn't have to hit home with everyone, just enough to A) make a profit and B) more than 5% when your audience numbers in the hundreds of millions.

    Around 57:00 mark Amber says “cops are bastards”, aka ACAB, I’m wondering *why do leftists in general, all seem to have this same viewpoint of cops? Is it the BLM riff raff? Is it that cops are the tool of the states “monopoly on violence”? I don’t see an alternative to thay monopoly on violence, certainly not one that doesn’t devolve in to vigilante bullshit and mob justice. And I don’t see how opposing the police is an inherently far left viewpoint or concept?*
    I don’t really understand what problem the far left have with cops or policing in general. And I get the impression that if some shit happened, pretty much every leftist would call the cops at a drop of a hat.
    I’m fairly far left, and a few years ago when I witnessed a black dude shoot another black dude through his throat, I called the cops because that seemed like the thing to do. The cops caught the murderer, and he’s now in jail, not murdering random people on the street. I can disagree with some policies the police enforce: and still see the necessity of police and policing in general.
    So, why are “all cops bastards”?

    • @frostthrone334
      @frostthrone334 Před 3 lety +14

      It's a slogan to galvanize protestors. What ACAB actually means is that the racism exhibited by the police as an institution is a systemic issue, and that A) the police must be reformed on a fundamental level B) reduce police spending and reinvest it in social programs and mental health, services that are empirically proven to reduce crime rates in the first place

      Do you think some members of ISIS are nice? Like they probably pet kittens. Maybe some Nazbois were nice. They aren't all bad right? Just because someone enables the largest prison population on earth, why think they're all bad? I just don't get it. So sick of the *riff raff* demonizing Nazbois and ISIS. Go post a thread on the /askchapo sub community of hexbear.net
      Much better place to ask than a YT comment section of a vod.
      Short answer: Cops in bourgeois states enforce bourgeois property relations. Police Departments are part of the state machinery that must be smashed if a socialist society is to be built in its place.
