i cried at the end of this. im also half rotuman half australian and this has made me realise how much i have taken for granted my roots on the island. i lived there for 3 years in my teens and i will always remember it as the abolsolute best time of my life. Being a little rebel smoking, drinking kissing chicks, bon fire partys in motusa, going to school with no shoes on and getting whipped by the teachers :) . living in australia i often forget about this part of myself but it is something i will now cherish even more than ever after watching this. im 26 now and have only been back once recently which was amazing although all my old friends had moved on and off into the world. im gunna call my dad now and tell him i fuckin love him cause even though he lives just down the road i havnt seen him for a while. his names eliesa fiu. LOVE YOU DAD

I went to Rotuma in 1983 on the Tui Tai vessel for a church pioneering association annual General meeting over a period of 4 days. It was my first trip to the island and boy, it was just so lovely and beautiful with great scenery all around the island. Some villages I recall were Ahau where govt station based, Itumuta. Noatau Pepjei Oinafa where wharf is , and the food was so mouth watering and yummy the fakei island dessert that was a meal.on its own plenty of pork chicken and their traditional island delicacies done in coconut milk was the icing on the cake, to say the least. Went for a motor bike ride they don't wear helmets there as they go only about 20 kph maximum they are still careful though. Saw a few pigs go running in front of the bike and some alongside it as well to join the ride too, very friendly pigs they were. What a great island to visit, it was a wonderful and sensational trip, I actually cried when we had to depart as I made some friends there and very sad to leave them behind as they looked after me very well like real brothers and that I will always remember and cherish forever.

This is so cool. I know some rotuman, infact my first rotuman I met was here in oz.
Some rotumans say they originally came from samoa, and some reject that claim. Lol. I know the story, and I dont blame you for denying it lol.
I know that rotuman speak fijian too. I think Rotuma is an island group part of the fijian country.
A lot is lost in time. Our history, our language and culture. I'm samoan and I believe 100% the samoa we know today is not samoa of old.
Regardless of the corruption of modern day age, and influence of the western society. We must preserve what we have now. Before we lose what we have, forever in sands of time. I love how you have reached out and embraced your culture, and restored the knowledge of where you came from. Not only for your own satisfaction but for the benefit of your daughter too. The future light bearers, who would shed light to the darkness of the past, eroding away as time ticks by.
    Alofa atu❤

I'm a Samoan/Tongan/Fijian who fell in love with a Rotuman man from Motusa. Before we get married I wanted to embrace what my fiance's culture and what it was all about. Even after growing up in Fiji, I never fully understood why so many Rotuman's loved going back to the island. It is beautiful beyond belief. I am learning the Rotuman and I'll be proud to pass on the culture with my fiance to our children. I will ensure that our kids will never forget their roots for many generations. Fai'aksea

My dear mum is part Rotuman.. Little i know about it.. Let alone ever trying to trace back relatives. But who knows... Maybe one day ill go visit this island and perhaps i will feel or sense a connecton.
I love your video! Thank you for sharing.
