  • Treating the Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia
This lecture will focus on some of the causes and possible treatments of schizophrenia's negative symptoms.
The so-called 'negative symptoms' of schizophrenia include loss of interest, feelings of diminished emotions, decreased motivation, and social withdrawal.
The negative symptoms of schizophrenia tend not to respond as well to customary pharmacological treatments for schizophrenia.
This lecture is part of Northeast Ohio University's education(+)consultation service, SZconsult. More information about this service is available at szconsult.org/

THANK YOU FOR THIS WORK...Medication didn't work for my daughter's negative symptoms. Deliberate cultivation of pleasurable experience and positive self talk helps her a lot. This research is so needed and very helpful.

I have schizoaffective disorder and am disabled.
sadly antipsychotics dont treat the negative symptoms. Hopefully theres a cure for this in the future. The positive symptoms are nothing compared to the negative symptoms In my case

The defective hedonic forecasting in schizophrenia is so interesting, I hadn't heard that before, only anhedonia. I think back to my childhood and I would avoid activities but if forced to go by my parent I enjoyed it much more than I expected. I didn't have other symptoms until late teen years

My son has it but he was a good student, had a lot of friends and played well with others. He graduated KState with a chemical engineering degree. Many of the negative symptoms are present. Breaks my heart.

Several studies have evaluated glycine as a supportive treatment for schizophrenia. Preliminary evidence suggests that high doses of glycine (15 to 60 g daily) combined with standard therapy may help with some aspects of this disease.

I have extreme avolition, depression, anxiety but don't have nor ever have had auditory or visual hallucinations or delusions, yet avolition is most commonly associated with schizophrenia. Confusing.

my sister has been on risperidone for 10 years and we increased her dosage up to 3mg over the years, but she seems to still be suffering from delusions from schizophrenia. would it be safe to switch to lumateperone or Clozapine

My son was diagnosed w/ severe schizophrenia. The negative symptoms are the worst. I am weaning him off Risperdal, he is down to 0.5 mg twice a day. He has perked up a little bit; watching him for the positive symptoms. Does anyone know if 9-me-bc will help? Or CBD? With Negative symptoms? He doesn’t bathe hardly, sleeps all day, and his intelligence has gone away. Sad to bear.

      Ive heard aripiprazole works good.

@@Owerus I actually got him down to 0.25mg daily and he has been doing good. Back to socializing with us (just me and his siblings), he gets up, and is more active. Still work to be done but I think most of the time medical professionals are quick to put them on so many drugs to zombie them out.

@@ItsAngieFly My ex girlfriend is taking aripiprazole and she is studying and living alone in different city away from her parents.. however she was raised to be very self reliant since childhood. In my case it is very different. Ive had psychosis in 2021 then strong negative symptoms - i have them since I was 13 years old btw. Which made me almost not able to function well outside of family home. Im trying my best to change my situation but its not easy and my ex didnt help me at all she even tried to ridicule my problem when we broke up.

Anti-psychotics cause and/or aggravate negative symptoms.

It's absolute bolux that it's thinking that makes someone experience flat affect. It's stuck with the patient for years and isn't a decision it's is a chemical and neurological problem. This is an absolute joke. It's frightening how little insight this guy has. Frightening
