It’s not for the name, they bought it, because it had an expensive price tag. Well, my school was hosting a Fair Trade Fair that my grade participated in, and our design teacher told us a story about how one of the Fair Trade companies (who sell beauty products) had to up their prices in the U.S just to sell, because people wouldn’t buy cheap beauty products.

Yes! People try it. My suppliers for shoes and clothing are all Italian named (Prada, Roger Vivier, Gucci, Versace, etc) and people act so rude and haughty about serial numbers, etc. I tell them that I could stamp the shoe and not even tell them it's an unauthorized shoe and not give them the discount. Or worst, they try to get it for free almost. We spend a hefty penny and profits come in quantity for us. People will wake up

Same with cars. Some “nice guy” pos tried telling me that my husband doesn’t truly love me for helping me buy a Honda Civic and that he would have brought me a Porsche or Range Rover instead of that “embarrassing cheap car” (in his words). The civic is the most comfortable car I’ve ever driven, and plus I hate cramped little 2 door cars anyways so even if I was filthy rich I would still settle for a civic.

Thank you Adrienne for putting that out there. I saw this story on another site and the comments below were just like Jeannie and Loni's saying that they could spot the fake a mile away. It is bull. Just as Adrienne said some of the products that people pay $200 plus for can be found elsewhere for $40. I have never been a brand person. Especially after watching this show called the Profit. The guy goes around to distress retailers and helps them get their businesses out of the red by showing them ways to fix up their stores and what not. This one particular show I watched he helped this woman who owns boutiques here in NYC. The long of the short. He told her she could buy the material she used to make her clothes from somewhere else and mark up the clothing 100-200%. So something she previously sold for $50 he told her to mark it up to $200. He also told her to scale down the amount of clothing she had in her stores. When he first went to her stores the racks were really close together and jammed packed with clothing. After he was finished her stores looked like one of those fancy boutiques with very few items all high priced. After watching that show I no longer believed in pricing. It is all marketing. I have a few pairs of shoes from Payless and no one could tell that is where I bought them until I told them so.

Abercrombie & Fitch used to make their jeans and the ones at Hollister, their lower-end brand, at the same factory and of the same quality and charge $40 more for the A&F ones, but they got exposed and were forced to make a difference in the quality.

Here's the best part. When a product wouldn't sell, they would send it back to the factory and they would re-tag them! and send them to a different store. Same products, different tags with different prices... Crazy.

Not everything is the same thing. Some things are a lot better and worth the price. I buy my shoes at Aldo and there a little more pricey but they last me, and they are better quality. My mom use to buy me Payless shoes and would have to keep buying throughout the school year because they wouldn’t last. Compared to other shoes like target she would only buy me one pair a year. There is a difference, I get that not always sometimes it is just people going for the brand but yeah. That’s funny for those who got pranked.

I love this because it shows that brand doesn’t always equal quality. You have to really do your research when you buy something. Pull on the seams, hold the fabric up to the light to see how much is see through, read the fabric composition, etc. all these are clues about quality.
I will say, overtime there are certain brands I have come to trust and distrust. LL bean in my opinion is great quality. You are truly paying for quality, not just the brand. I am less critical of their clothing when I buy it than I would be of another brand.

I had a friend who worked in design and she went out on the job to pick up something for her boss, and in the same factory she saw them putting Nike logos one set of running shoes and a cheaper logo on another set. Same. Exact. Shoes. After she told me that And I did more research, I’m extra careful when picking out my clothes and shopping in stores.

Someone said that about tomato product cans. He said they had the same batch of tomato sauce with different labels. Not sure if he said really high end with low brand labels. But he said people would end up paying more for the same cans sold cheaper on the shelf.

First of y'all this is a genius prank, the real also does a show call fake it or take it...I think that's the name of it... When audience got to tell the real from fake..half the time the fake be looking better than the real ..
Also it goes to prove a point that if u market something we'll and put a name behind it ... it will sell.
High end doesn't always mean quality.

as someone who has a family member who worked in the shoe industry im willing to bet not a single person on the show could tell the dif between a 20 dollar shoe and a 300 dollar one. if i took off the brand name you would be just as fooled. the company my sister worked for sold to walmart, payless, target ect.... what people dont understand is alot of their shoes come from the major companies t just under a dif label and or are close outs. basically when a line is discontinued for whatever reason the shoes are just dumped off to stores like payless and they ask to remove the label because they dont want to be associated with the store (cheapens the value). the cost to make is dirt cheap they still make a f-k ton of money even selling them for nothing to store like payless.

They bought it, because it had an expensive price tag. Well, my school was hosting a Fair Trade Fair that my grade participated in, and our design teacher told us a story about how one of the Fair Trade companies (who sell beauty products) had to up their prices in the U.S just to sell, because people wouldn’t buy cheap beauty products.
