    It's cool to see a game like this at a high level. A lot of pros don't like the slower play style that's kind of campy or "cynical" but it's an interesting strategy and it seems like it can work sometimes. Well I mean what do I know but this game was a nice change of pace.

    Mobility has also its weakness, you said it in the title you can easily make a slow deathball and if your opponent goes for a counter attack you wreck him faster. In other words if the enemy has mobility force him to take a fight where being more mobile does not help him

      This "slow, but powerful" vs "weak but mobile" matchup is absolute central to Star Craft theory. It's nice to see such a clear example of that in aoe as well.

      I absolutely despise those things. 150 HP, 5 melee armor and waaaaayyyy too much pierce armor ... they are so hard to kill without bombard cannons -or mongolian siege rams-
      to put it into perspective, HOW unkillable those things are. It takes a fully upgraded hussar TWENTY-FIVE hits to take down a single teutons trebuchet...

      The general level of x-bow micro has improved so much that mangonels are no longer as strong a counter to archers, the general thinking is that it's often better to get the lower guaranteed damage from the scorpion than to invest twice as much resco into a mango that might not get any damage at all, especially when the role of the siege in this senario is to delay or push your opponent away from an area rather than needing secure kills.

    Maybe he could put heavy infantry in front of the Mangudai to deal with the mangonels, even if you see and try to move the pikemen in front he has some time to fire the mangonels with the Mangudai while the infantry engage.

    Maybe Teutons would be an option for maps with close spawns, or maps with more choke points for good monk/siege push.

    Getting that gold up in the top left was key but it he’d walled the gaps in that left side we would have eliminated the Mongols’ mobility and forced them to fight him in the middle earlier and would have had 100% protected eco.

    Couldn't our dear Mongol player go siege onagers too? Its not like Mongols has weak siege. Would have been very interesting to see that late late imp transition.

      In a 1v1 the gold cost to get siege onagers is prohibitively expensive if you want to keep up Mangudai numbers (a necessity vs Teutons as you certainly don't want to fight them in mele with Hussars).
      Simply researching the tech is already 1,500 gold plus 135 per SO and another 450 if you want drill. That puts 5 fully upgraded SO's at the same gold cost of over 40 Mangudai.

    I have lately been playing with Incas and using slingers a lot depending on the situation. Today defeated Teutons and Incas in a 2v2 with 600 kills and only 150 deaths

    I think that Teutonic Knights should be able to build walls and towers. It's thematically fitting, and gives them something unique they can do rather than just being slower more population efficient champions.

      Like your idea, it would give some additional options. Alternatively, how about, since they were a religious Order, giving them the option to convert? Although this might be OP and one would need to make them worse at that than normal monks, maybe by decreasing conversion range, increasing conversion time and/or making the converted unit lose HP in the process or something. Of course it would also be tricky to micro since you would need to choose between converting and attacking but it would be an interesting modification.
      If I remember correctly, SOTL made a vid in which he said the devs were thinking about giving the Samurai two different fighting options (which is also quite an interesting idea and maybe could be something for more of the unique units).

      ​@@f.c.laukhard3623 I've thought about that, making them combat monks, but I couldn't figure out any way it could work without being really overpowered. It's a great idea, just not, necessarily, one for Teutons.
      Also, Teutonic Knights are uniquely suited to build towers. Firstly, TK's biggest weakness is archers. Towers counter archers. Normally it's a waste to garrison units in a tower though, except Teuton infantry can shoot arrows from inside towers, AND can heal via free herbal medicine. Normally infantry don't have enough health to realistically use herbal medicine before they die, but TK's are the tankiest infantry in the game. And Teutons can fit 10 of them instead of 5 inside a tower. TK's can't realistically run away from anything, but if they can build a tower, they can not only run away, be protected, and heal, they can still be part of the fight around the base of the tower *at the same time!*
      Why can't you do this with villagers? Because TK's can't defend anything from archers, not even themselves. Trying an aggressive enough tower drop to be useful in a melee fight would just mean suicide for a few villagers and wasted stone for the towers. But TK's are something like 5 times tankier than a villager.
      Simply by letting Teutonic Knights build towers you bring into synergy nearly every single part of their civ AND give TK's a reason to exist, all in a single move.

But then again we talk about a game where Chinese fight Aztecs in Arabia :D I like your idea quite a lot. When I read it I thought it possibly is OP as well because it is so great for the TK but after rethinking, it is probably OK since it would still be vulnerable when trebuchets are in the mix. So yeah, it might be working nicely.

      Easier said than done, also halbs are super cheap so viper can throw them away in front of the onagers to prevent rams from getting in close, and preserve as many onagers as possible. Not a cost effective fight for Vivi even if he does what you mentioned

      Easier said than done? I guess we'll never know unless we see it actually happen but what I know is that mongols dont struggle against halb siege like most civs do because drill rams and mangudai

I also think you're underestimating how resilient siege rams are especially with drill. I've seen onagers break formation when units get too close and attack their own. I know Viper uses the stop command a lot

      Hill bonus is +25% damage when shooting downhill. Units that shoot up a hill hit -25%. Helps to have mangonels be created on a hill for that bonus damage. Also they won't die from one mangonel hit from downhill.

      It is just so newly built onagers enter on the high ground so they can come out safer/in a stronger position. Mangudai get too close for instance when one comes out it gets a surprise shot for +25% and takes -25% from enemy units in return while you try to group it into your army or otherwise defend it.
      Other reason is that siege workshop has more HP than most buildings so putting it on a hill gives it increased lasting power, it's just a little harder to destroy it without trebs or rams

      No it really didnt at all. It wont have an impact most of the time. Late team games in halb wars it'll be huge and in those rare situations fighting goth spam but other than those two off the top of my head it probably wont matter much in the end.

      Actually I think they were good before. They. New stuff is not game breaking but a nice cherry on top.
      Teuton eco is just glorious and everything feels strong or impactful with em imo
      Like health reg, paladin spam, high range castles, tanky siege, tanky castle defenders aka teutonic knights.
      Sure they are slow but the options are nice and if you get on top of them it gets nasty

      @@stardustreverie9737 idk man, I used to think that way. But I'm fine with the options I have. My biggest issue was no scout upgrades and cav speed. But I just go scouts feudal with all upgrades and smooth into castle with power house eco and knight spam. Who cares about speed if you need to face my knight mass anyway.       @@fluxbomb3376 Husbandry, Thumb-ring and Bracer are the biggest key techs to be missing. Lack of Light Cav will also hurt the late-game potential in Trash Wars. Lack of Gold Shaft mining means you're key units will be much slower to get out than the average Civ, and lack of Shipwright means you will be lacking in late-game water maps. All in all Teutons were considered weak by pros and the majority of the community before the patch. They definitely needed a buff, especially for their infantry since they are classified as an infantry civ with no bonus to it, now they do have one.

      @@Blake5467 Yeh viper said in a video recently that he doesn't like Tuetons, this was before this buff, but still when the top player says that....well. i think they are one of the weaker civs. not having even access to light cav let alone hussar really hurts late game no gold raiding... i do like how they have recived the siege armour buff and now this infantry armour buff, both useful for sure and makes them outright better than original aoe Tuetons. i do like this civ but dont think they are that great.

    This is the trouble with the pro scene sometimes. Not that I blame anyone for it, but I think some civs are never played not because they aren't good or have potential, but because pro players just don't prefer them. Personally, one of my favorite parts of AOE2 is seeing some of the less meta playstyles and less meta civs, like when Tatoh does crazy things with the Saracens, for example. I love tournament games, and I never get bored of them, but I love them even more when we have those Tatoh moments of non-meta craziness.

      he used different control groups for each monk if u noticed

      at some points you see him pause and click around on the monks. That's when he sets up control groups, one for each monk. With some practice, you can quickly flick through every monk and have it attack a different unit.
      This is still extremely micro intensive and the main reason monks are mainly used in castle age when armies are small.

      He has each monk or two on a separate control group. So he does 1 Click 2 Click 3 Click etc really fast. Becomes much less practical over time as it takes so many control groups to do

    The additional farm discount is actually fairly significant - 60 to 40 is a third off, but 40 to 36 is an additional 10% off, so your farms now are 10% less wood than they used to cost....too bad they have terrible scout line. Really surprisd he didn't build onagers of his own to take advantage of the faster/superior mongol siege

      teuton scouts are really not that bad as people make them be. They are fully upgraded (save husb), and trade better vs archers than korean hussars and a couple others. lol
