    Thank you for this thorough demonstration on the Therma Tru door. I did everything exactly like you did and my door is beautiful. The most helpful tip was covering the door with plastic. I used the Multi Strip and it worked well.

      Thank you very Much! I’m happy you where able to take tackle this project on your own! How many times did you have to apply the Multi Strip?

    Hi Russ. Only applied one coat of Multi Strip and then went over the door with a little mineral spirits to get anything that the Multi Strip didn't. It was much easier then when I did that door about 10 years ago. I put 3 coats of polyurethane on so hopefully I won't have to do this again for 10 more years.

    I hit my front door while I was pressure washing. Stain is 16 years old and under covered porch. After I hit it i decided to pressure wash the whole door. I pretty much have a stripped door now hahaha

    I like to see every step regardless of how tedious it is. Many times CZcamsrs will remove parts of something and I think, "Wait! How did he/she remove that piece?" It can be frustrating as a viewer. I pick up a lot of things that you don't necessarily explain. For example, I noticed that you used a garbage bag as a paint tray liner. Yep! Stole that idea. Lol Thanks, Russ.

      Hi
      Thank you for your Feedback! I agree with you! If I am trying to learn something, I want every boring tedious step included. That way if I attempt it myself, I will be prepared down the long road. The garbage bag is great and saves a lot of unnecessary clean up time. Stay Tuned and thanks for your Support!

      Hi Dejan
      Thank you for sharing that! I try to show you every step in the process of what I’m doing. If you are trying to learn, you should want to see every step in order to achieve the desired outcome. This is a 2 part video series on how to strip a Fiberglass door that has an oil based gel stain on it. It’s not easy and takes time with many parts. Would you rather me edit the videos and leave important steps out, just to make it look effortless in the process?
      Russ

      Russ,you didnt understand me...The steps and everything are the most important...I mean put it everything together and make a one nice video like everybody on CZcams,dont make a lot of parts,,especially for the smaller jobs...

      Hi Dejan
      Yes I did understand you! Just like the last the time you commented on the the other series with the fiberglass doors. I explained to you that I record in 4K and it creates a big file that often creates more problems with editing because it freezes my computer or creates an error in the upload process. I just put out a video for you that is just shy of 25 minutes in 4K. I can’t put the 2 videos together and create a file that is 1 hour long and is over 12 Giga bites and expect to edit it and upload it with no freezing. Have you ever edited and uploaded a video in 4K?
      Russ

    Tip I got from another CZcamsr, Megan. Use Marine varnish instead of a polyurethane varnish after your stain has dried. Marine varnish will not turn your stain orange as it ages.

    • @RussOlinatzPaintShow
      @RussOlinatzPaintShow  Před 11 měsíci

      Thanks for sharing that! I think the sun has a lot to do with that!

    • @jimwalker76
      @jimwalker76 Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, from what I understand, the sun bakes the varnish over time. As a result, the polyurethane chemically reacts and takes on an orange color. I'm not a chemist, but it does make sense.

    • @RussOlinatzPaintShow
      @RussOlinatzPaintShow  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes the stain changed color too. It used to be dark like mahogany, and after several years it changed colors to more of an orange brown.

      Good luck getting the marine varnish off after it eventually cracks, it's a nightmare to work with. The UV gets to it as well, it just takes longer and you have a bigger mess when it eventually fails. The only product I've ever found that works well in this application is Cetol by Sikkens, which is now Proluxe by PPG.

    I use to strip door's.. until I got a door they was ruined. The guy who taught me how to paint. Told me to use a quality exterior flat paint tinted to onion skin tan. All you have to do is restain it to a normal 5 coats of clear looks great. I have a 10-year-old door that looks good I clear-coated every once in awhile.

    Hi Russ... Another 4K limited "cliffhanger". I wonder if 1080 or 720 might be an acceptable alternative for folks like Dejan Gvozdenov.
    I will be very interested to see what the paint thinner leaves behind on the Citris Strip side of the door. The Multi Strip seems to be considerably more viscous and so I wonder if it leaves more material on the door after application??? Short of un-hinging the door, laying it flat and pouring those strippers on thick, It looks like the Multi Strip is a more capable product. I guess I will find out in your next video. Take Care, Don

      @@RussOlinatzPaintShow Jasco's paint and epoxy stripper is the only thing I have had occasion to use. The can clearly says to stay away from soft materials like fiberglass but on wood or metal, this stuff is almost instantaneous in results.
      A few decades back, I had an opportunity to spend some time as a customer in a fiberglass mold and parts making shop. Everything in that shop, chopper guns etc was cleaned using straight acetone out of a 55 gallon drum.

    • @RussOlinatzPaintShow
      @RussOlinatzPaintShow  Před 2 lety

      Hello Don
      Wow, thanks for sharing that! Yes, Acetone is a great powerful cleaner, but should only be used sparingly and as a last resort! How bad where the fumes from the Drum?

    • @tribulationprepper787
      @tribulationprepper787 Před 2 lety

      @@RussOlinatzPaintShow As I recall, the drum had a pump screwed into the top lid so there were no fumes BUT I have bought a few gallons since then and I avoid the odor best I can while using. I have messed up a few clear plastic parts trying to use acetone to remove price sticker adhesive. Live and learn!

    Therma-Tru company reccomended to use JASCO strip and also use their own stain and top coat finish products. Don't do this in the sun or extreme heat or humidity. It's a breeze!
