    In this painting video, I show you the Tips and Tricks for BEGINNERS to paint with Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Interior Alkyd. The baseboards where previously touched up with a flat or Matte sheen paint, that would cause a lot of surface friction or Paint Drag when trying to apply the Advance Paint. So I spot prime those FLAT SHEEN areas of the baseboard with Zinsser Peel Stop Triple thick primer. This allows me to glide over the surface and experience very little paint drag or Surface Friction.

My husband stutters and has struggled with it professionally, but he has persisted and not let it stop him to great success. It takes guts to do what you do here. Hi
      Only if it’s going over latex paint. It doesn’t cover great. It ensures a sealed surface that you can glide across with a brush or roller and allows extended hold out time allowing the paint to level out more!

    I used Advannce on our kitchen cabinets. It’s a really nice, durable paint that levels beautifully. I would like to use it on my baseboards but my house is old and the baseboards are not at all smooth. We scraped and sanded them but they are still quite rough and patchy. My huband used zinsser 123 primer on them which is very flat. Can I use the Advance semi-gloss over that? Also have a room with new baseboards that were installed with factory primed wood. How should I approach cleaning them and subsequently painting them and will Advance be Ok for those too? Thanks for any advice.

    • @RussOlinatzPaintShow
      @RussOlinatzPaintShow  Před 9 dny

      Hi-
      Thanks for sharing that! Yes, the Bulls Eye primer works great as a underbody. If the baseboards are not in good shape, I would suggest lowering the sheen from a Semi- Gloss to a Satin sheen. As for the New Pre Primed base boards, don't try to use the Advance on top of that. It will not spread easily. Prime the New Pre-Primed baseboards with the Zinsser Bulls Eye first. This seals the baseboard so that when you apply the advance, the advance will not get sucked into he surface.

    Russ, First, I noticed that this video is running at 720p and for over 33 minutes. It is a great quality picture.
    Second, I don't trust myself to cut into my dark stained baseboard and so I will be using my Zenith Trim Puller to "slightly" remove the top of the molding about an eighth inch from the wall. I was going to tape the molding at the top but I think that pulling it away a bit from the wall will make the job easier, at least for me. I can always brad or pin nail the molding back into place if need be. I wish I had your skill and experience.

      Hi
      Give the video a few more hours and it should update to 4K. If you do that that should be fine, but the top edge won’t be caulked to the wall. It’s just a personal preference!

      @@RussOlinatzPaintShow I have no doubt that it is 4k... ON YOUR END.
      ON MY END it is being presented by YT in 720p. I'll bet this is the same for the most of your viewers except those on their couch, eating popcorn and watching your videos on a big screen, 4k TV.
      I'll just say this bluntly... I think you are wasting RAM and storage space, (and losing the ability to produce one video instead of having to break up that video into several segments), by filming in such a high definition/resolution format. As I said earlier, the 720p format that YT is providing me on my end is PLENTY clear and plenty good enough. I use a 28 inch monitor.
      I am just suggesting that you don't need to bother with major motion picture type 4k. You are not filming a Star Wars sequel. Try 1080p a few times and save yourself some editing hassles and those huge big files.
