I'm yet to be convinced that there's much new here.
I loved the first edition of this rule set. Looks like the original unit descriptions (mounted men-at-arms, men-at-arms, yeoman, etc.) have been changed and broadened to encompass any era or region. I like that a lot. Great, quick playing game. Scales up easily. I've played games with close to 150 miniatures on the table in an hour and a half.
I'm stoked! This is the perfect balance of historical and light fun. I sense a War Of The Roses army incoming!

This looks to be a fun take on "historical" wargaming. I like to see Design Notes throughout the rules.
Definitely picking this up, sounds like the army lists are greatly expanded, especially into “Dark Ages” / late Roman, and with more options to customize later forces too. Nice to see the core rules largely the same but with little tweaks like the leader reroll based on years of feedback from the popular 1e.
Fantastic - got this on pre-order having played the first version a fair bit, although most of my time was spent with Dragon Rampant, the fantasy version. It really is a great system - I got a bunch of lapsed wargamers back into the hobby with it a few years back. A tip for beginners who haven't yet got enough figures, you can always have unit sizes of 3 and 6 rather than 6 and 12 and just give everyone 2 hit points. As an aside, we do this all the time with 'big creature' units like Ogres / Minotaurs / Trolls where you can have 3 or 4 models with 4 or 3 hit points each to act as a 12 man unit. I'm interested in the changes from first edition, but I'm much more interested to see Ash put on a game! Oh, and super excited to see Xenos Rampant later this year too!

I liked the first edition. Know someone made a Crusades supplement too. Part off Ospreys string off nice games for me (Frostgrave, Gaslands... and great boardgames).
Very glad they added a "faild toi activate" re-roll, we played with that already in LR. Thank you for always showing of some less well known games too.
Only since January have I gotten into minis. I picked up the copy of both Dragon rampanyt and Lion Rampant. I've only done a Dragon R. scenario and I loved the rules and the way the game played. hope there isn't too much different cuz I haven't even used my first edition yet for Lion.
The scenario I ran was homemade 40 plus orcs versus 40 plus humans.
Orcs rule! Humans drool! Once I build my box of Atlantic Old Age Irish I should have enough humans for two armies of about 50 +- figs each for a Lion Rampant game..
Nice présentation. Would love to sée some historical stuff on this channel. Also did you try saga ? I think it kinda look like this game (30-50 models per side) with a little more specificity on each faction. Not very History simulationiste. Rather inspired by movies and novels.
The ability to mix and match time periods (within reason!) and geography of the different sides in the game is an important thing for historical games I buy.
I might personally be interested in time+place X but you might be interested in Y and if we have to compromise and spend the money and time on an army we don't really like just to play with our friend then that just puts a drag on the overall experience. By allowing mix+match you both get to collect the stuff that excites you while also being perfectly able to play historically accurate match ups if that's a shared interest.
Warmaster Ancients and Mortem et Gloriam for example support both historical and ahistorical stuff explicitly.

Our group were hoping that the automatic end to activation would be changed. We'll probably just continue to use our house rule.
I’ve never played either edition of lion rampant but have played the fantasy version Dragon rampant. And have enjoyed quite a bit. Alot of basic rules appear to be similar, but i did notice a few improvements in the lion rampant 2nd edition while you were going through it. Wall of spears didn’t have the throw back in dragon, which is a big improvement gives you a better reason to use it besides just getting an extra point of armor. The second one is being allowed to reroll failed activations if your leader is near, in Dragon its a command trait that you had to roll on a table to get. And there was no campaign system at all originally. So it looks like they have done some good solid improvements.
Since they did a second edition of Lion, i’m really hoping for a second edition of Dragon next.
But does it include the rules from the expansions, The Crusader States and A Viking in the Sun?

Interesting. I have no historical mini's but I might check it out regardless.
It works equally well with 54mm figures and gives us the chance to game with britains detail knights and turks.
So essentially a BYOM (Bring your own models) game system right?

Hey, Ash! I've recently gotten into TTG, starting with 40k. I'm absolutely a sucker for all things medieval though and this game looks like just the gateway I need for historical medieval tabletop wargaming. Are there any miniature lines or online stores you recommend for medieval minis? I currently don't have a friendly local hobby store near me.

Curteys Miniatures makes sets just for Lion Rampant. Their minis are the majority that are featured in the photos, in at least the first edition book.
Maybe someone else has already said this but you should check out Saga from Studio Tomahawk.
I hope to eventually get at least 100 figures of humans 100 figures of works and then maybe 50 figures plus or minus of things like goblins, hobgoblins, undead n Lizards, so I can have some variety in my gaming armies/opponents. Most everything is 28 mm though I have some 15 mm cowboys and I just bought two armies of 2 mm from irregular miniatures.
I played the shit out of 1st edition. Looking forward for different scale stuff.

Hey hey let's not pretend that DBA isn't a healthy game with an active community. That game is quite fun!

@@GreekGeek73 yeah I think Ash's commentary about games with lots of mini's is far more applicable to a system like Armati, rather than DBA.
