I mean it makes sense for their beliefs, serving the God-Emperor is the greatest honour and highest aspiration anyone could have in their eyes, so from their point of view they were giving a dedicated servant who died before his time the means to complete his service to the Emperor.
Twisted AF, but internally consistent, which the best WH40K always is IMO.
Half-naked cyborg flagellants, used mainly by the sisterhood, do with that as you will.
Relatively new to 40K stuff but so far there's 5 things I love, the Sisters, Salamanders, Ogryns, Orks, and the Zealot in Darktide

To be fair, he already was brain-dead when he was shot in the end. All the Sororitas did was to use his body and keep it useful for the Imperium. The Imperium is such under constant pressure that having one or two still globally preserved corpses being reanimated to keep working for them isn't above their morals.

@livefromtheblacklibrary It's less hard work, in a warm palace, with a body encased in some luxurious case, and at least someone minimally cares you are there. Even if you are lobotomized. After a life of 20 hours shifts and eating corpse starch it's a good deal. Same with the case of this guardsman - he most likely will change candles in some temple for long eons, far from the battlefield. And even as a battle-servitor, he will no longer feel pretty much anything.
Also knowing that Warp exist and souls of the dead goes there... Well... Servitor sounds like better option.

Sure technically their environment and work improved, but they dont dont even have the ability to be aware of the change, much less appreciate it. A servitor is no more than a fleshy roomba. When you do a lobotomy you scramble the bottom of the brain, so if it’s just the top shot off then it’s still possible.
They probably put a new brain peace on his body.
Then they install cyberdong and claim Emperor works through him.
He got the top of his head shot off *then* was lobotomized afterwards implying he didn't suffer brain damage when he got shot. His "reward" for saving a standard and surviving a gunshot to the head was being lobotomized and turned into a toaster.

Nah his brain was fucked from the shot. Like IRL it's just surgical removal of a section of the brain (or just scrambling in the good old days), in very severe instances they might remove one whole lobe. In 40k they are straight up taking both lobes and replacing everything other than the basest sections of the brain with machinery.

Probably by cleaning blood and viscera from armor, burning incense in their quarters, holding a lantern so one of the sisters can read more of the Emperor's texts, really basic stuff like that. Servitors aren't meant to really be intelligent, so it would be very simple things.
I understand this was meant to be a joke, but I thought I'd give a realistic outlook for what this guardsman's cybernetically reanimated corpse would be doing.

There was in fact, a guardsman who, after being seriously wounded on the battlefield, was turned into a servitor by his commanding officer so he could serve forever. He would serve his commander until her death and her family after that.

Honestly, even if he somehow managed to lapse back into being aware later on as most servitors do, he wouldn't have things too bad.
His work would be simple, mostly things like cleaning blood and viscera from armor, burning incense in the halls, or holding a lantern for one of the sisters who is trying to study some of the Imperium's holy texts. And he would be safe, mostly. Even as a servitor, it's probably better than what he had to go through before. Besides, the sisters respect him now. He certainly won't be abused like some servitors.
All in all, not the absolute worst fate one could end up with in this setting, which is wild, considering we're talking about getting shot, reanimated, then having your body puppeteered by some tech.

In one of the books it was mentioned that old and wizened dudes who perform low-rank administrative tasks at mechanicus are often offered to be turned into servitors as a way to preserve their flesh and honour their work. Some of them even agree to that, lmao.

I always wondered how much of a brain a servitor needs. If you're using a brain instead of a computer at least in part wouldn't you need it fresh? The cells will die after minutes without oxygen let alone however long it took to drag the corpse to a processing facility. Unless they can like rejuvenate the necrotic tissue somehow? It's actually pretty cool, he wasn't made into one of those suffering ones like the mechanicus did to that guy's son but instead basically paid tribute in the only way they knew how and that's admirable.

"Iron Hands" somehow rewarded a heroic adept of the Administratum (he continued to work while they fought off an attack in the same hall) by turning him into a servitor. The battle brother who pulled him out even envied him: “maximum unity with the Machine.” I remember the story in BL. Some mechanicum can also “reward” personnel in this way.
The death simp part was too funny. At leaast the Imperial Guardsman did not get his groin shot out. 😂

I'll do you one even better there was the overseer of a factory that made augments that we still having his people work even during a riot to not miss their quota. He was in saved by a Space Marine of the iron hands who not only was fighting iron to extract him from the planet but was about to fight a squad of dark angels who were going to kill him because he thought he knew about the fallen. The dark Angels did stand down afterwards when they found out that he was being honored by being turned into a servitor for the iron hands chapter
Maybe some part of the loyal outstanding guards still resides within and will still make some spectacular save/sacrifice
I think the distinction is being made one before or after death, being made a servitor after you die is continuing service. Before is to punish you and use a useless body.

In fact they'd probably see it as divine providence from the Emperor that guys like him are why the sisterhood fight.
