      That's true. Jack Byrnes was constantly spying on him putting hidden cameras around the house and he never got to propose to Pam when he was completely ready to propose. (Before he got on the airplane, I remember he was looking at the ring he was going to propose with where he was probably thinking "well, I have to find a new girlfriend now and I'm back to the beginning now.")

      @MrJamieMurph4141969 Před 8 lety +15

      Yes, even though Greg has no right to fly off the handle like he does here, it still is something we all can relate to-simply the "last straw," and in this case, a result of having been pushed too far already. Also,,like someone else had said, this is one of those cases where one's motive for getting vocal stems more from our needing to discharge our feelings than from our needing to be reasonable(it's obvious that Greg is discharging all of the grief that had built up inside him, over the past two days, from Jack having given him a lot of shit.)

      @ericvanwageningen4340 Před 8 lety +2

      +MrJamieMurph4141969 you know, it is so funny you mention that because I read an article last night about a man whose former coworker finally lost his cool with his overbearing boss in front of a multitude of people, and then he got screwed over big time!
      I'm not saying he couldn't have handled it differently or better, but the point is, this scene is no different than what I read about last night.

      @ericvanwageningen4340 Před 8 lety +5

      +Eric van Wageningen so yeah, we can definitely sympathize with why he finally snapped. of course, the best way to deal with it is to agree to check the bag in, but also say that if it gets lost again, he will definitely be filing a complaint, and he'd mention the stewardess' name in the process, as she has effectively PROMISED him it wouldn't happen again, you know?

    Somehow, this scene is very similar to the plane scene, in "Anger Management" with Adam Sandler. Both scenes show a how a simple misunderstanding between an antagonized passenger with an implosive temper, and an uncooperative stewardess escalates, and the passenger comes out as the villain...

    @1:15 I can just hear the sadness in his voice. He is a man who just wanted to have a life and it just kept kicking him over and over. He just wanted to be happy and love the girl he loved, but everyone else wanted him to do everything they wanted him to do and be whatever he wanted him to be. He couldn't be himself cause he always had to be someone else. When they want to take his bag, it wasn't just a silly bag, he wanted to hold on to his dignity at least. He wanted to hold on to whatever he had left because he was left in a state of unable to trust anyone. I don't blame him. All he wants is a little respect and no one will give it to him.
    "All I want to do is hold onto my bag and not listen to you." The metaphorical stance is just...I can't put it in words. He just wants to finally be able to do what he wants to do and feel safe being himself, but no one will let him. So he makes a stand. "I am tired of this bullshit and I am tired of playing it everyone's way. For once, I want it my way. I am a human being just like everyone else and not some punching bag you can easily abuse."
    Also, it is kind of ridiculous that human beings are so afraid of even the word "bomb." Come on. If you're so afraid of people saying the word bomb, then maybe you just shouldn't leave your house.

      Another thing I can relate to, feeling forced to be "someone else," or a phony, in other words, by acting contrary to what I am really like by nature, and simply for somebody else's sake and not my own, when I would far much rather do what I personally really want to do. Yes, that too, is something we can all sympathize with, being sick and tired of somebody trying to wear the pants and thus force us to respect their bullshit authority and act beneath ourselves, even. It's no wonder Greg explodes like he does here, even if he almost does get put behind bars for his actions. And still something else we can probably identify with- being so caught up in some negative emotion that we might even be temporarily past caring about consequences of such actions.

    LOL. xD We watched this in my group therapy today. It was used as an example of how we tend to react in an emotional mind rather than a wise mind and then our behavior tends not to be as effective. We also had to study the prompting event that made him act this angry, like he probably lost his luggage before. xD I do think he made some good points though but his reaction was way over the top so we need to manage our anger and other emotions to get a better result.

    I was damn near at this breaking point.

      I honestly don't think the "Step off bitch!" part was Ben Stillers voice...Jay Roach who direct the film dubbed in another actors voice to say that line to make it sound more balsy and badass.

    This film came out on October 6, 2000. If it was planned to be released after September 11 of the following year, this scene would've been probably altered! They would've probably kept in the freakout scene, but would've taken out the mentions of a bomb.

    Because this movie was released on October 6, 2000, which was about a year before 9/11, I'm pretty sure that this scene(or situation) would be handled differently today.

      He could've handled the situation better...maybe just allowing the stewardess to check the bag and just making her aware that his bag was lost before and that if it happens again he will file a complaint would've been better...the mouthing off and saying all the things he said was completely unnecessary.
