    Great video. I will share some knowledge that has been passed from my father who was a mechanic for over 50 years. Which ever cylinder has water in it remove that plug only and start the car and within seconds the pressure will shoot out all the water. Repeat with the remaining plugs if necessary.

    Thank you very much for your tips. It works for me. My car's engine is running fine now, no more misfiring.
    The water ran down and get trapped inside the spark plug wells after washing/ cleaning the engine bay and under the hood by using the garden hose.
    David, Thanks again.

    This video is still relevant 5 years later. Just had the same issue where i washed down my engine. Changing valve cover gasket and plugs and ran into the same issue with water somehow got into all my plugs! You are a life saver because i kept looking to find how i can resolve this issue. I will let you know the outcome, heading to walmart right now.

    I had this problem before, in my Ford Van, and I just use a 'Long Flathead Screwdriver' and a Clean Cloth. You need to wrap the clean cloth around the tip of the Flathead screwdriver and stick it into the Spark Plug hole to soak up all the water/oil/fluids. This cloth method works so much better, you'll be able to get out more fluids.. plus you get to wipe the walls of the hole completely dry too.
    Good luck everyone

    Great thing about these type of videos, collaboration. People get on commenting with other good ideas. Didn’t know if I took out the spark plug that’s misfiring and start the car that the pressure will shoot the water out itself. Get some paper towels to catch and soak up that water you should be good to go. Definitely trying this but in harbor freight they sell a hand pump. Similar to an air pump with 2 hoses that will extract water quicker than this method anyway. Good video though. Wish more people came together to solve issues.

    I just solved this problem on my 2009 Lincoln Towncar 4.6L engine again. This is normally coolant that is leaking into the spark plug holes if you did not recently wash your engine. It is a known problem with Ford's 4.6L engine and involves leaks from the intake manifold usually near the thermostat housing that will run along the side of the engine and into the spark plug holes, usually #8. Water normally will not go past the spark plug, only in the spark plug hole that prevents the coil pack from giving a consistent spark to the plug which results in an intermittent misfire. It can take a while for the water to build up enough to cause a problem and it will most likely happen again. I use a blowgun with my compressor. I'm not sure replacing the intake manifold gasket will solve the problem permanently. Water or oil that gets past the spark poses a more serious problem.

    • @blanchy
      @blanchy Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for sharing this. I'm removing my intake manifold to access my dipstick tube hole which seems to be blocked. In doing that job, I removed the ignition coils and found the water. So kept moving along and removed the fuel rail and see that I need to replace all 8 fuel injectors. One problem just leads to another.
      ... I hope the source of the water in the coil issue is as you describe since I already decided i'd change the manifold gaskets.
      I'll add for anyone else that each coil has an oring that should keep water out of the hole. All of mine seem old and loose. I will try replacing them before replacing the coils.

  • @artgerman3596
    @artgerman3596 Před 9 měsíci

    Very true about the 4.6L Ford engine and water entering the #8 spark plug hole. Even after replacing the intake manifold, you can still get water leaking in that number 8 spark plug hole. I usually blow out the water as much as possible before removing the spark plug itself. Water entering the cylinder itself can cause the engine to not start. If enough water enters the piston cylinder itself, it can result in the engine not starting at all. If water is on top of the piston in the closed environment, the piston cannot move and none of the other pistons will move either. You cannot compress water, so the piston cannot move. This no-start happened to a friend and he thought he needed a new engine. Removing the spark plug and then cranking the engine will cause the water in the cylinder to shoot out of the spark plug hole where the water is. Normally, water will not go past the spark plug into the cylinder though.

    I had the same problem with my 04 Ford e350 super duty box truck 5.4 liter and I after removing the water with tissue if I remember my mechanic to me to use gaa treatment to get the remaining out of my intake.
    It was misfiring and running rough after again. I continue the gas treatment for a month and still runs rough at 3rd gear I think. So I just said forget it and continue to drive it and ignore it. My mechanic said my motor is bad but like you said Ford tough. My truck is still holding up and pulling loads and running strong.

    Well for one thing the balls in the tester will not float in just water and when you pulled the first bit of water out of the plug hole at 4:17 all five balls floated to the top so might need to check for antifreeze leaking into the plug hole . I have the same tester and just did the just water test and all five balls went to the bottom.
