Try this one Ripley Alexander - Uptown Girl (Billy Joel) - Australian Idol 2024 - Top 12. I never thought that I would like an Abba song, but credit to this young guy who takes the song and turns it on its head and makes an entirely different output, with actually more meaning .

Having watched all of the original seasons of Australian Idol back in the day the comment that is literally BURNED into my mind from all the Judges is "song choice...song choice!". This young lad flipped that song upside down and performed it well and in an unexpected way completely but....was it a good choice? I did like his vocal and wish him all the best
I really liked his interpretation of this song. Loved his vocals, I'm A sucker for all these shows, I just have to skip through the back story stuff. When I find a contestant I like, I enjoy seeing how far they can go. The foreign versions are great because the contestants generally sing in English-language and I can ignore the judges.😁😁😁 Thanks for the great reaction, looking forward to your next one. 😃✌🤗

Been following this show in Oz. As someone said before, teenager Ripley was a shock elimination last week (week 1) along with an AMAZING young female vocalist, Imogen, who could belt out Celine Dion and Whitney Houston perfectly. Absolutely nuts. Basically, combined with a flawed voting system, both were expected to make it to the end and people got complacent with voting. Australians love an underdog, so we still have people in the competition who are nowhere near as talented, but they have a great/sad back-story. There are no judge saves, so we lost great talent early. Many Ozzie’s have vowed never to watch Idol again unless they change structure of show. Ripley will be okay. He has amassed millions of views and more followers than Australian Idol itself. It’s just a shame as many of us were loving his interpretations and story telling performances.
I couldn't believe that Imogen got voted out! Never should've happened based on that performance.

Didn't guy Sebastian pick him up to do a song with him?
Yes. One of the judges said at the start of episode 2 that Guy Sebastian (superb artist and has his own record label I believe) had already enquired if he could co-write his first song. Another judge then stated ‘Guy needs to get in line….’. It appears his early exit may well be in his favour! Here’s hoping as in an exit interview he said he’s already written 300 songs and I personally can’t wait to hear what he does next.
He has a sound similar to one of the Jonas Brothers. Very good.

Very good voice but agree with BP2, not the song I would’ve chosen. For competition I would want something that shows off more
RAYE ( Rachel keen ) has just won a record 6 brit awards , have you checked her out .? why not ? check out " oscar winning tears " glastonbury 2023 .or at the royal albert hall .

The white-haired gentleman clearly isn't the Aussie equivalent of Simon Cowell since he was so immediately enamored by the young man. 😂
He has a good voice but in this at least song I don't find it that remarkable, nothing that makes him stand out amongst other singers.
Unfortunately he was one of the two people cut last week and didn't make the top 10.
Bound to be a success then ?
