  • Bad is the seventh studio album by American recording artist Michael Jackson. The album was released on August 31, 1987 by Epic Records, nearly five years after Jackson's previous studio album, Thriller, which went on to become the world's best-selling album. Bad itself has sold approximately 30 million copies worldwide, certified 9 times Platinum in the United States alone, and has been cited as one of the 30 best-selling albums of all time. The album produced a record five Billboard Hot 100 number one singles, the first and one of only two albums to do so, the second being Katy Perry's 2010 album Teenage Dream. Similar to Jackson's previous music material, the album's music features elements of R&B, pop and rock.

The jealousy and racism is obvious throughout this video. These reporters really hated Michael Jackson. It was just a matter of time before they would begin their mission to destroy his reputation and legacy. So terrible I almost don't have the words. How could ANYBODY hate such a beautiful and talented human being???????????????

Because Michael was an afro-descendant. Even with all the talk of racial equality, development, social integrity, etc .; all that is nothing but perfumed shit to camouflage a latent racist sense in world culture. And the United States is one of the systems that most promotes racism. They will never accept that an afro-descendant possesses excellence in several or all of its facets than a person with pale skin.

It was definitely obvious back then that Michael would reach the height of success he has. There will NEVER be another to come close to his talent and imagination as a performer. But it's funny to see all the "late comers" that have just discovered Michael's talent starting with the Thriller album. Interesting to see the contrast in reporting between Thriller and Bad albums. You see the beginning of media turning on Michael and setting the agenda before even the Bad album came out. I think the Pepsi accident had a huge impact on how he looked after that...plus the fact that he was struggling with his Vitiligo by then.
I think a lot of people were annoyed when he became the biggest artist of all time. This little black kid from Gary, Indiana, emerging as the biggest popstar the world has ever seen. All the Elvis fans were annoyed. Madonna was annoyed (lmao) and Beatles fans were certainly livid. I think buying the Beatles catalogue has caused him untold grief. I wish he didn't. White people of a certain age were already mad of his success and being compared to Elvis and such but buying the Beatles' music was the last straw. That's when the establishment went after him.
Which brings me to the real reason a lot of people were mad: Mike was too bloody good. :-)

People get pissed off when they're not as big as someone else and they get jealous as hell. Who cares what you look like? Who cares if he had a monkey or a platypus? It was his music and dance that he was entertaining us with… His God-given talent. He also used his platform of notoriety to try to do good in the world. Oh… Shame on Michael Jackson for trying to do something good… For trying to bring some love into this world and recognition of those that are starving and need help. At the end of the day it was the media (even today) that killed Michael Jackson. All the comments about his skin color and his face? More has been said about Michael's face than about any other face in the history of faces. Think about how superficial and racist that is. As if that is what is important when it comes to a talent like Michael Jackson. In my opinion, Michael should have worn a paper bag over his head at all times -- just to get back at those idiots who had nothing better to do except criticize and insult his appearance. Jealousy and racism -- terrible combination.
Even today - Google his name or go on Wikipedia. If you Google his name they will show that he was never married. Really? I do believe he was married to Lisa Marie Presley and later Debbie Rowe the mother of his two oldest children. Wikipedia spends most of the time talking about the allegations and plastic surgery. They barely mention all his humanitarian works. I just looked at what they said about George Michael (who just died) and I saw entire paragraphs about his charity and humanitarian efforts. And none for Michael who gave more money to charity than any other popular entertainer ever????
It is up to Michael Jackson's fans to demand from the media that Michael be completely vindicated from all the false rumors and stories about him. And it is up to the fans to continue his great musical legacy. His children will do their part but the fans have to do their part. It would be the greatest travesty for the world to ever forget the greatest entertainer that has ever graced a stage and one of the most amazingly kind and loving human beings to have ever been born.

Interesting to see that guys comments on how people were upset that Michael owned the Beatles music and how he mentioned there would be backlash. I was born in the late 80s so, it's kind of educational for me to have a look at how the atmosphere was around Michael at this time. After his tremendous success with Thriller and especially after buying the Beatles catalog, things really started to go left with Michael as far as the general public's sentiment. It was only matter of time that they found something to go after him on; something that would stick.
I think many people were happy that scandal befell Michael and many of those people had a platform in the media. Those same people are still using their platform to chip away at what's left of Michael's legacy using those age old allegations. Every year, there's a bullshit story about that subject. They won't be satisfied until pretty much no one celebrates Michael Jackson, IMO.

The Beatles should feel honored that an artist of the caliber of Michael Jackson bought the copyright. First, because Michael did it out of admiration for Beatles music, he did not do it to demonstrate any kind of superiority complex. Second, Michael has nothing to envy to the Beatles. Michael is a 1000K artist. Third, look at how your culture is hypocritical, if Britney Spears had bought the Beatle music rights they would have applauded her; but since he was an afro descendant then their guts burn. +ann landers the truth is he did not look natural during at any point after Thriller, he was already unrecognizable by the time that Bad video premiered where every single trace of his ethnicity had been altered.....and that's a huge part of the problem, his fans of today really think they are upholding his legacy but they are not because they refuse, absolutely refuse to see the truth, acknowledge the truth about this situation and mainstream media is acting in the very same manner......the fact is Michael Jackson witnessed declining record sales after each and every album after Thriller because as Nelson George said in this special lost his black audience, the base of his appeal, it was his black audience that made it possible for him to become a global superstar.....there is no jealously, there was anger because Michael moved beyond his blackness in every conceivable fashion, but his life became hell because of it because that strategy was never ever going to work...........every single fan of his of today need to do a serious self evaluation in regards to this situation and stop propagating the false image....what could have been the greatest story in music history turned out to be the greatest tragedy...........because of god awful advice from opportunists, everything of significance was destroyed......he never had vitiligo a day in his life and everybody know it deep down.........as early as the Bad era, you could already see the damage afflicted on this man's appearance and tons of makeup was used to cover it up......the fact is black people would never have talked "negatively" about him if he had not had severe racial neutralizing plastic surgery, and it wasn't just black people who responded in anger, but white people who saw the truth for what it was did to, along w/other cultures of fans who bought that Thriller album

scorpionJB Michael having vitiligo was confirmed in his autopsy and you can see glimpses of white patches on his arms during the Bad tour which was years before he publicly announced he had the disease. The original gloves that he wore during the Victory Tour have dark makeup stains on the inside. Michael was wearing dark makeup even during the Thriller era to hide the white patches. If you still want to think that Michael lied about having vitiligo then you're the one not seeing reality and letting your opinion cloud evidence. "Michael abandoned his blackness" is an opinion, "Michael had vitiligo and donated money to many black organizations such as funding scholarships to black colleges" is a fact. Michael started to lose his audience because that's the nature of fame. Fame is fleeting for everyone that comes across it. Even if Michael never had vitiligo and or any surgery, he still would not have stayed at the top of the charts forever.

    • @scorpionJB
      @scorpionJB Před 8 lety +2

+Yuuri Shibuya the nature of fame had nothing to do with it, he was already the most famous entertainer in the industry during Off The Wall, Michael Jackson never had vitiligo a day in his life, that autopsy is no more real than the believe there is life on mars.....and the original glove did not start during the Victory Tour, he started wearing the glove 5 years beforehand...and he never had white patches, every bit of discoloration that he did have were brown spots, indicative of the fact that he compromised the pigmentation of his skin by choice, vitiligo don't make your nails turn brown like his did by the 2000s....and to show how off track this fable is, Michael said during the Oprah interview that he started getting a skin disorder during Off The Wall which was released in 1979, so the time track is all wrong and there's no way he had it then either, and a skin disorder is not responsible for a person to have multiple racial neutralizing plastic surgeries and cosmetic procedures........if he had never destroyed himself like that, all of his albums after Thriller would have sold more than what they did, and I'm sure in the end he wished he never did it, but it's not all on him though as he received the worst advice there was for people looking to exploit his name and talent after he reached the pinnacle

As a kid, me having the Number Ones DVD as a kid with almost all of Michael's short films, I never paid attention to Michael's physical changes as I watched "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" all the way to "You Rock My World". I never questioned it til I got older. I found out he had vitiligo and a handful of surgeries. (some for medical reasons, some for cosmetic reasons) Most surgeries being his nose because he had broken it in 1979 and had to get a rhinoplasty. From there, he had to get it reconstructed multiple times through out his life. His chin dimple being most likely from 1986 to early 1987, not sure why he got it. But he wasn't just some plastic surgery-addicted freak, other factors contributed to his appearance. Michael barely ate, he was always losing weight. He was literally on the verge of anorexia in 2009. But Michael was a proud black man and always claimed his ancestry. He is one of the reasons I am proud to be black, he was my first role model. He's the greatest and there will be no one like him.

How could that be ignored, especially when we're talking about the most successful black man in music history? He hadn't told anyone he had vitilligo yet. Had he done that before Bad, he could have curbed the speculation. BUT...at that time, we know he wanted to be viewed as weird, and so my (admittedly untested) theory is that he purposely didn't announce the vitilligo because he wanted all that speculation. Of course, it ended up backfiring horribly.

Shandra9000mail There's nothing to believe because it's already been confirmed in his autopsy report. He had lupus and vitiligo (pretty much one and the same, as both are autoimmune diseases which attach the skin through antibodies). It was already evident by the early 80's; you can see pictures from the thriller era where he had reddish rashes around his cheeks (a clear sign of lupus).

From the second Mike bought the Beatles catalogue the wheels had been put into motion to destroy this black man who dared accumulate that much wealth and power in the music industry. An industry that once was owned and ruled by white men now was the pedestal upon which Mike stood.

why are these people's faces orange? and their lips are orange too, weird!!
Also why are the making Bad sound like Mike is trying to distance himself from black community when it was meant to be the complete opposite

I think with Michael not being forthcoming with his Vitiligo has done a lot of damage. A lot of these comments about his skin condition could've been put to rest by just making a statement. It all just snowballed and became something that he couldn't control. I thought it was too late when he came out to Oprah. Imagine how many people he could've helped and the awareness he could've brought to the disease.

babygunz0604 I honestly doubt it. Let's look at the time. Nowadays, we are still not that completely accepting to vitiligo because it is not understood, so imagine how it would've been in the 80s. Even if people did believe him, they would've called him a freak, said he was involved in black magic and etc. It would've been more detrimental to his career and I doubt it would have made people understand him and sympathise.

I'm not saying the backlash would completely go away. I was talking more about the criticisms he got from the black community that he wanted to become white which is not true. Today, we're actually more accepting of vitiligo. We have models that freely flaunt their vitiligo without makeup. There was a tv anchor who came out as someone with vitiligo. They all got support. The comments he got then were out of ignorance and bringing light to his disease would've brought forth understanding and knowledge. Many who suffer from this disease felt like they were alone because it is a rare condition. I think it would have brought comfort to them knowing that a huge pop star like him had that disease. I mean he advocated for HIV why couldn't he do the same vitiligo?

babygunz0604 And that is only recently. We are only starting to get used to it and accept it, eventhough we have been aware of its existence for a while .Don't get me wrong, I understand what you are saying and I agree with you, I wish he did too, but I can't imagine how people would've reacted to it at that time, so I can understand why he didn't. Yes, with Michael's platform, he could've helped to share a light on the condition, but it must've been difficult for him, due to his insecurities and how the subject was considered taboo. And we don't know how people would've received it, we dont even know how black people would've received it, so it could easily been seen, from him, a lose-lose situation and personally, i think it would've gained more ridicule, than the skin bleaching rumour.
