    I have an old sunbeam gas grill roller stand, that use to have a propane grill attached. It works great!
    Has a bottom shelf and my brother made a shelf in the center in back for additional shelf space.
    It's close to the wall and out of the way when not needed. It's portable because it has two wheels. I modified a writing desk. Again my brother installed dowel pins into the desk top in front to widen it a foot. Then made an arch cut in the middle section like traditional jewelers bench. He took the pull handle off the drawer and installed one of those BRS braces that have different attachment. He attached a stand on the bench for my flex shaft an accessory shelf in the back of the bench. Made slots for arm rest right and left and holes for my Mandela. Enclosed the bottom on sides and back underneath and built drawers and a shavings catcher for all my fine metal shavings. Installed top railings. He even made a soldering station out of the drawer, so cool. He used his tile cutter on some ceramic tiles to line the drawer sides and bottom of drawer. He used refractory cement to join the titles together.
    I have to removed the drawer to solder or the rest top would burn from underneath.
    I never imagined this writing desk could be customized into a jewelers desk.
    I love it. It's all made of cherry wood and it's gorgeous.
    He works cheap to. He makes things for me and I make things for him. He loves my pies lol

    Anyone buying a smiths little torch, I suggest for your safety; to not buy the smiths torch off of Amazon. Ive done extensive research and have found that every smiths torch on amazon is a knockoff, return or a factory second, ive actually talked to an amazon representative about how this works. Basically every single thing sold on amazon by someone who doesn't make their items is a knock off, return or factory second. Its a bit ridiculous once you find it out.

      That's interesting to know. I shop Amazon for some things and I assumed many items sold are knock-offs but I've been lucky so far. I bought a small butane torch (I'm just beginning to learn so that's all I need for now) that someone gave a bad review on and said it was a fake of some other brand but for the price I couldn't beat it and it's worked without any problems at all. If I ever get serious enough about making jewelry that I need a bigger and better torch, I'd definitely want to know I'm getting something that's not a fake so thanks for the heads-up! 🙂

    • @TheMayflowerPilgrem
      @TheMayflowerPilgrem Před 3 lety +2

      @@tammygurl64 like you said amazon is a hit or miss, you may get a legit brand new item. But its at a discount for a reason, alot is factory seconds. Smiths little torch actually had a big deal with knock offs awhile back. You know the yt channels of people unboxing return crates? Their the sellers on amazon, some of their amazon shop names are hilarious. I bought my blazer off of Amazon. Just make sure the seller is the company that makes the item. Ive noticed amazon will allow sellers to use simular names, so be careful.

    I had a question about pickling solution. I understand the area needs to be well ventilated, but I was wondering. Does well ventilated mean, a fan needs to constantly be blowing the Sparex area outside or its ok as long as the lid is on? Would I need a mask on the entire time when working in the area of the pickle pot? My pickle pot will be just a couple feet away by a window.

    Your hands flying all over the screen is annoying and distracting. Whatever you read up on about hands moving and heads moving - toss it out the window. Keep those hands by your side or moving naturally. They are photobombing the video.
    Great video, thanks for no music! Thank you for showing us all the tools you have, lamp, set up. This is so valuable for a novice like me. In terms of desk, I would use IKEA solid wood table or kitchen cart/table and adapt it to my needs. Pretty easy to add a pegboard and frame on top of a table, then add sets of IKEA metal drawers under it, and put the whole thing on heavy duty casters from Harbor Freight. The table has to be solid wood, and stable to take hammering and heavy stuff. Although if you hammer on any table, it sounds like a drum because it IS a box drum. I think adding Mass Loaded Vinyl or Noico or a silicone pad under the metal block will deaden hammering and absorb the vibrations well. Maybe add that under the Table top and legs as well, although it is heavy material. We don't really have a good system for a sound proof hammering table although like yours it must have a heavy wood block top.
    Harbor Freight sells $2 magnetic strips for your pliers and hammers. Look into IKEA BEKVAM $4 spice racks that hold findings in RAJTAN jars at $1 each. I love this spice rack system, and mounted it on a BEKVAM kitchen cart $89, rows of them on all 4 sides. Some hold magnetized tool racks, some hold spice jars. The spice racks fit nicely on the open sides of legs. I have one for my kitchen as well for spices and kitchen tools. The FORHOJA cart $149 also works well. Subscribed. Very relevant information!

    What I see ( 40years a jeweler ) is a guy with all his 'hammering bench' equipment on a small bench . I see no 'jewelers bench' . I started out with a bench peg clamped to a table however as soon as possible and it is possible you should make or buy a jewelers bench with the cut out , a tray or attached apron to collect filings . It is essential to me . There are people sitting on a dirt floor today making jewelry professionally . It depends how serious you are . Having the cut away bench at the right highth so you can rest your elbows and the peg where most happens is at a good level for working , seeing and not back breaking . Keep the clutter somewhere handy but not around the top of the bench and not in your filing pan . Good luck . Best case is an apprenticeship but that varies greatly from place to place . Not so great in Canada , as compared to Britain and Europe . They have it figured out and produce some amazingly talented jewelers . Otherwise get a job in the trade . Move to a new job if you are stuck soldering broken chains . You can get a second class training that way if apprenticeship schools don't exist . Good luck
