    This is seriously gunna be a game changer. Small business guy here and I used to use PayPal readers but they stopped that here in Australia a little while ago. I have no idea why. This would be just awesome. Thanks 🙏 Apple.

      @@target3842 Yeah I realise that, it’s another huge nail in the coffin for cash. I am certainly NOT for a cashless society. Chances are that someday that will happen though. I think that it should all be about choice, there’s also the issue of when tech goes down at least cash is there as a backup hey.

    This is crazy cool! Those Square and Shopify readers are glitchy and run out of battery super fast. At a convention/event you can’t afford that kind of friction when someone is making a purchase. Can’t wait for this!

      Doesn’t a iPhone lose battery ? Also we don’t even know the transaction fees, I’d rather pay 1% transaction fees than 2-3% for what apple might charge

      My square terminal lasts 3 days, and it’s never glitched on me, I’ve had it since launch day. Maybe you should get yours looked at

    They have had something like this in Japan for a while. Unfortunately it has a lot of issues for the train. I went back to the physical card shortly after trying it and being late to work numerous times because of the phone version not working/ scanning properly.

    It is quite vague for me how do I receive payment? Can my Wallet app be able way to accept payment. I would be natual way for me.
    Or can be my banking app be supporting this feature and be acepting payments? That would be best way for me as small business. Why woudl I need another middle man to pay commision to?

    I’m also curious what fees will be charged per transaction. I would be willing to get rid of one of my business payment methods in favor of this system. Because as of right now, I use Square for all transactions.

      I’ve been reading at at launch it’s going to be 0 dollars. However like with every freemium or $0 marketing launch strategy the charges come later. Once the demand is established then they end up raping us. But it will help to drive down costs across the board I’m assuming.

      Exactly I’m waiting for when they’re announcing the transaction cost rates cause tbh who cares about the machine cost, square and other companies machine costs have gone quite cheap compared to how they use to be.
      But seen as it’s apple they might try and charge 2-3% for transactions 😂

    I have literally said this on other forums on social media and I will say it again here
    That IS WHY the iPad DESERVES NFC
    On a peer to peer viewpoint like sending your friends and family money it's good BUT on consumer to business viewpoint the iPad DESERVES TO BE THE NFC ENABLED HARDWARE to pay for goods and services at businesses

      Great point! I immediately imagined doing this setup with an iPad but I didn’t realize it doesn’t have NFC enameled hardware. Maybe this will spur that change!

    I wonder if tap to pay will work as like cash as well for example. *Someone wants to pay someone money but don't have their number or anything just put the amount they want on their iPhone and tap their iPhone.

    Wish Apple would also have this Apple iPad so merchants could use it as a POS system to order, and pay for something. Of course Apple did this first on iPhone as that is what they use in the Apple store with third party case to except payment with tap to pay.

    How much different is this than what people had using Android? I thought for sure tap to pay features could be used on pretty much any Android phone. Is this the same or much different?

      No you are thinking of PAYING with your phone. This is like RECEIVING money by tapping a card on the back of your phone. Its like a small card machine where you tap to pay at a stall but just in a phone

    Cool. The only hindrance is small merchants will have to buy expensive iphone. So there is no way this will be adopted widely in many countries.

    I would love to use this feature but I cannot figure it out. Do I need too download a payment app? I have an iphone 13. Please help. I just started a new small vendor business and would love to use my iphone rather then sqaure.

    This is great, but just imagine… if it took 7 years to have Apple Pay in many countries (such as Mexico), I don’t wanna think of how much time will take to get this feature 😕.

    It seems the card fee still will exist... the only costs that should be involved is, (overridden the card, so coming right from the bank) is the internet and electricity cost to transfer funds.

      Exactly and knowing apple they’ll charge a premium too. as a business owner I don’t understand the hype, sure I can use my iPhone but card machines are a one off payment and transaction fees are what I really care about

    There's no mention of the cards that still require the chip to be inserted. I'm assuming that's intentional?

      Tap to pay is more secure, and using Apple Pay is more security on top of that - chip only cards are being phased out already. Should be tap enabled by the next time your card gets renewed

      @@Nathan_Lundstrom no they aren’t every reader has them because tap to pay is only available for certain order amounts. If the cost of a bill exceeds $50 I have to put my pin in for a security measure.

      The kernal will be in the cloud instead of the device. So no extra equipment needed. Tbey just have to download the app.

    As I learned, the feature only transfers money, but it doesn't tell what you bought, or sold. I do not like that because I want to know what items were in the transaction. Hopefully, I am wrong about that no information about purchase is using.

      Not really, they haven’t mentioned anything about transaction fees. Who actually cares about the machine cost, they aren’t that expensive, what’s expensive is the transaction cost. Apple charged 2-3% then what’s the point of switching

    Contactless payments are everywhere in Turkry, even on the buses but Apple Pay is not supported. It’s been years, I hope Apple avoids political issues and move on to make life easy for every Apple product owner. Thanks 😊 🙏

    To be clear, no terminal or phone dongle is needed because the emv kernal is in the cloud now. So the app that is downloaded is connected to it. The NFC antenna on the phone is all you need. Stripe and Shopify are the first to integrate with this technology so of course there will be fees. They aren’t the cheapest either. Anytime visa, Mc, dis, Amex are accepted there is a cost you bet your biscuits.

    Really I don't know much about computers so if your trying to advertise to me at least do it right. Apparently OWC has this drive but what purpose and does this mean different capacities of space I don't really get it or what it could be good for.     Get ready for the scammers to have a device to auto receive payment from many phones without password or code. I’m turning mine off. Y’all have no Idea what’s going on in the under world. Ask yourself about all the cars that be stolen with digital keys and home with digital locks this is bad.

      For Apple Pay the user needs to authenticate anyway. But for standard cards, yeah, it could be a problem indeed. We don't know how it works yet but bringing the iPhone near a wallet in someone's pocket could make them pay indeed?.. ouch.

    The feature is really cool but I don't get why Apple didn't integrate it directly in the OS like they always do, and how Apple Pay is. I don't get why you need to download an app to use the feature? Wouldn't be more simple to, like invoking Apple Pay to pay, double click or something and invoke the receive payment interface? There's something I am missing here
    Edit: After thinking a bit more about this, it's probably because of security issues. The business account verification through Stripe and other apps provides a layer of security. It would be too simple for anyone to just bring up their personal iPhones and tap anybody's credit card.
    We would be better in a world where everyone would use Apple Pay lol. Authentification would be mandatory so no risk to be scammed

      Wrong transaction cost is what matters the most not card machine cost. Apple won’t do anything unless they make transaction fees basically free
