    Hi. Nice video. May i ask the tech details of how this works? Like for the card, does it have to have an IC chip? And also, what technology supports this service? (Ex. NFC supports general Apple Pay)

    • @anatomyoftheswipe
      @anatomyoftheswipe  Před rokem

      The card being tapped needs to have a Contactless Chip on it (NFC Enabled), or the card needs to be tokenized into either ApplePay or GooglePay. The Merchant needs an iPhone with NFC capability. You then need a Merchant account with Square to run Square's terminal software on the iPhone.

    My Square app just updated to include this feature today. It works great! The only problem is if a customer wants to use a card that doesn’t tap, my plug in Square card swiper no longer works. It shows as being connected in settings but it will not let me swipe the card. I’ve been having to do manual card entry for these customers which sucks bc I know Square charges me a higher percentage for manual entries, it holds up the line, and I have a reader that should be able to swipe but won’t anymore. I haven’t found anyone else online having this issue. Do you know if there’s anything I can do?

    • @anatomyoftheswipe
      @anatomyoftheswipe  Před rokem

      Hi there! So some good news for you, is that starting just this year, you can't get any cards produced without the Tap function. But of course as you mentioned, some people just have older cards that don't support it. I'd recommend you to get the Square Reader. You connect this via Bluetooth to your phone, and you can tap on it, and you can also insert the card with chip (its more secure than just using the magnetic stripe, and just about every card has chips at least): www.bestbuy.com/site/square-reader-for-contactless-and-chip-white/5028800.p?skuId=5028800

The iPhone SE 2 has the same chip as the iPhone 11 so I don’t see why not. It might be that I have to wait for iOS 16.1 and I’m guessing your a developer if so. Will it work? Many thanks

      @anatomyoftheswipe  Před rokem +1

      Hi! So it appears that the minimum iOS version is 15.5, so you are already well past that, and Square is suggesting that you use iPhone 11 or above. You are right that the SE 2 has the same chip as the 11, but I wonder if Apple is using cheaper NFC hardware on the SE 2 which is why it doesn't work? It doesn't make much sense to me, but see this link from Square for their official support: squareup.com/us/en/payments/tap-to-pay

      For Square, I know it is country specific. What you are proposing would get too much money taken out per transaction just in fx fees. It is best to get a bank account stood up in the country you are providing merchant services in, and then periodically transfer the money to your home account. Have a look at Airwallex or Nium to help you get international bank accounts. Once you get that, then you can stand up a Square terminal with US bank account where you can accept payments in the US.
