Drug and therapy, couldn't have put it better mate. I sold my manual C2S 997 which I used for therapy every Sunday and bought a 2012 Cayenne Turbo. I do regret selling the 997, I'm about to sell the cayenne to pick up 997.2, the Cayenne Turbo is a great car but not one I'd miss, just something about those 911's that makes you smile
I also sold my 997 Carrera S, 2005, a year ago. Miss the sound, cleaning the body. It is a dam sexy car, It is so fluid, almost like a gorgeous woman...
Well done Satch on yet another down to earth say it as is no nonsense video. The more clips you do the more professional you get. At this stage you should be looking at a presenting career in my opinion.

Spoken like a true Porsche fanatic! Great review and I love the spec on your 997.1. The only thing I’d mention is in your comparables: the price of an NSX is well beyond that of any 997, save for a well optioned GT3. But I’d still take the 997! 🙂

If you’re talking 997, don’t buy anything until you’ve at least seen a 2010 Sport Classic. The 911 reached its peak in purity of design and engine efficiency in this edition. Better have deep pockets tho as they run over $400,000. But what a breathtaking beauty.

Just recently did a tour of Scotland (NC500) in my 997 CS2 manual over 10 days, family of 4 was the perfect car for the job and we had enough room for all our clothes! Wouldn’t change it for anything!

911 Turbo 997.1. Was my favorite Porsche 911 until the 992 Turbo that just came out. I absolutely loved the rims on that 997.1. With that said, if I was to purchase either the 997.1 or 997.2 I would go with the 997.2 as there PDK transmission is much, much better then the Tiptronic transmission found in the 997.1. Great Review nonetheless glad I stumbled on to your page.

Prices here in the US have soared form the time of this vid. Looking at $70k plus for a 997.1 Carrera S that’s is sorted. GT-3 around $140K plus. Great vid

yes...They have climbed with the rest of the used car market. I have a 997 Targa 4s with full Fabspeed Intake, Exhaust and Tune with HKS Springs and Sway Bars and Turbo wheels!!! Amazing Ride

I’m 6’4” there is more than enough room in my 997
Grab yourself a Cayenne then. You can even raise the air suspension to help entry and exiting the motor.
Very useful and helpful. Only one missing point for me is the answer for the question: has 997 enough comfort for for the person 190 cm tall? Are the chairs big enough to cover your top back sufafce?

#16 - Use the door handle to close the driver and passenger doors. Don't shut door by touching the glass or the door side or you will need to clean your car (again). Top vid as always.

Nice piece on the basics of why you should buy a 997. I’m looking to get back into ownership and I’m stuck between either gen 1 or gen2. With the issues you mention it’s a tough choice getting a gen 1 when those issues are more likely than not going to cost you £1,000s (engine rebuild) potentially. You have a gen1 so how do you feel about it? Keep up the good work 👍
Great enthusiasm but you mislead any potential 997.2 buyer that the fuel consumption is as poor as you say. The DFI engine is very efficient. I get 25 mpg overall, the computer flatters it to show 28mpg. I use the performance when it's appropriate and on long motorway runs get 30mpg measured by filling brim to brim. The PDK helps with the long 7th gear, effectively an overdrive ratio.

How on earth did you manage to get a picture of my Ford focus? Just gone all in with a pristine, immaculate concours 997.2 - 0 regrets - its 'effin amazing - slate grey with red callies - looks the biz - also upgraded to the new Porsche infotainment retro fit module - which is life changing as upgrades go thanks Porsche Tewkesbury the boys girls and 'theys' are spot on
I have a 2008 997 manual Turbo and absolutely love it. These cars need to be driven hard at least once a week. The last of the analogue Porsche’s. Will also keep it for ever.

Watched this so many times over last year along with all your videos, now I am weeks away from shopping for my dream 911. It will be a 997 4s. I feel you very straight talking so could do with honest answer. As a weekend and road trip car is it worth having the .2 or am I being vein. Has to be Auto 😳

That was the first thing I thought of as well. I absolutely loathe big logo/Polo shirts or clothes. Being subtle and stealth is the way to be. And no Guards Red Porsches either.

I never get as low as that , in mixed driving the trip computer says 23-24
On a long long on motorway you can get 30 mpg
It’s not an issue for me either but I think the fuel consumption is good , it’s on par with some of the hot hatches I’ve had

Can get near 30 on the motorway in my turbo.
If you a keeping your foot in it 12 mpg is realistic. If you are just cruising it will go up to what they state.

Thx for the info! I am scared of the bore scoring issue! I hear a lot of horror stories! if i get a scope done during the PPi i should be good? No way do i want to pay 20k for a rebuild! Don,t get me wrong i have no problem spending money to maintain it but not 20k!

Apparently the big bang ims issue on the 997.1 affect less than 1% of cars. Doesn't stop me keeping my fingers crossed every time i go for a drive though. ( 9 years and counting)
I got grounded with bore scoring , now it’s being rebuilt to a 4L displacement
I'll just keep my '99 996 Gen 1 w/ 55k well sorted .. New everything w/ engine out at 50k. I'm good to 100k..

Hi all!! My 997 gen 58,000 miler just discovered a coolant leak ! Expansion bottle empty… refilled empty again over night! Can’t see leak on front crossover pipes … but fluid leaking from front end underbody panels !! Hope it’s not an engine out fix?

Actually, the C8 (as referenced May 2022) is the o n l y logical option vs the 997.2, everything else is seriously, not a relevant suggestion.
A small point ......997 "dot" 2 should read 997 point 2, its grating to hear you keep saying it
