    I was about to ask you some questions about shotgun microphones for the weekly Q&A, this video just gave me the answer.
    Thank you very much.

      You're welcome. I felt other reviews weren't being very honest when they failed to address wind noise.

    Excellent contribution! A lifelike, true presentation. Actually much deeper and more useful than of some of those "pros"...

    Great video Simon. Audio is so difficult to capture well in the field. Had the same mics and the same issues with both. You are the MacGyver of mics!!! LOL great solution to the Sennheiser clicking!!!!

      Thanks David. I was about to return it when I thought of doing the review. And in doing the review, i earned to appreciate them both more than I ever had. But I really do like the Sennheiser. It can sound a little thin, but I think that's because the Rode adds more bass than is really there. Without the wind filter, the MKE 400 is close to the real thing. Got the washers at home hardware ;)

    Love the comparison. Seems ideal to have both....maybe sennheiser can adopt that idea and offer a bonus for the low tech fix.

      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  Před 3 lety

      They do need to update the design. Most reviews even on Amazon don't talk about the clicking. It only happens if one is moving about a lot, but its there.

    A cardioid picks up very little from the rear and little from the side. As you remove more of the side pickup it changes from cardioid to hypercardioid where it picks more from the rear and less from the sides. It is almost impossible to make it forwards only with no rear or side pickup. Suspect the Rode is more hypercardioid than senheisser.

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  Před 3 lety +1

      It didn't feel that way. What the mic picks up and what is processed before we hear it are to different things. Both are good, but the results are different in given scenarios.

    Ive been using the Sen MKE400 mic in its various guises since the early 90s. Great very front directional sound quality but very poor rubber suspension which has snapped on both my last two, so have some super glue handy! Will never buy Rode again as the Pro that I bought as featured here completely failed on me on its first outing on a trip to Peru and lost a lot of good footage and had to end up using the on board mic.

    Any thoughts on the new Sennheiser MKE 400 second generation? Was released recently

      I saw it, but haven't had the chance to use it yet. I like that the cord is detachable now - that's a big plus.

      Agreed. I’ve seen this exact comparison on many videos over the years, and none is even a quarter as good as this one. Beautifully done, subscribed.

    I bought the Sennheiser MKE400 around 6 years ago. Have there been any changes to it since then?

    I guess you don't means a TSR adapter but TRS... in actuality the apple lightning to 3.5mm jack adapter is a TRRS (4 contacts) ;-)

    Well, I do believe that you have to dish out a lot of money in order to get a good mike. Good review Simon.

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  Před 3 lety

      True. Each of these cost about the same, but when shooting outside wind noise can ruin the results from the Rode.
