    Hey great video man! I'm on the fence between the NTG and the MKE600. Which would be better on top of of the camera for talking head videos?

    • @NicoSoro
      @NicoSoro  Před 2 lety

      Hey Pierce, thanks for watching! :) If you want the best audio quality the MKE600 will be better (even with the 3.5mm adapter). I am actually in the planning of doing a video comparing both. But I'd recommend only leaving the mic on top of the camera if you are really close to it (less than 1 meter), otherwise a lapel system will get you a much better sound.

    Can you plug in the Sennheiser MKE 600 XLR to TRS (1/8" or 3.5mm jack) cable directly into a PC or laptop for recording and streaming?

    You used the mke 600 with batterie / jack or with xlr cable , on this video ?

    Wow..This is such an excellent video for beginners or anyone who is looking to improve sound quality drastically..
    I have used videomic NTG as boom mic with camera but it cannot avoid AC or room noises still..Probably I was expecting it to give at par quality of other NTG mics..

      Thanks Jasbir! Noise could also come from the recorder or camera preamp maybe?

      I tried with old Cannon 600D by putting it on minimum level in Manual mode, and also with iPhone.. Tried with all different combinations of mic settings.. But just cannot get rid of it.. Probably shooting in the night is the only viable option for me (which is unfortunate even after spending this amount, it costs much more in India)..

    Why is the use of a microphone for recording in nature not discussed when using the microphone in this environment? Many of us users do not film videos indoors :

    Hi Nico thank you so much for your video, really inspiring, between the Rode Videomic NTG and Sennheiser MKE600, which do you think will work best for Cocktail Making Demonstration/Cooking Classes? My room is not treated and with a bit of echo. I won't move a lot but for example move a little my head up and down when I cut garnishes or mix/shake drinks. The other thing is that I would like to use the mic also for streaming classes so that means that in some occasion i won't rely on post production audio fixing. Or do you think a Lav mic would be more appropriate? At the moment I have a SmartLav+ but would love to up my audio game. Overall I really like to crisp audio from a Shotgun or pencil mic over a Lav, but open to hear your recommendation based on my specific situation. Thanks so much. Ciao from Italy ;)

    • @NicoSoro
      @NicoSoro  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Max, I'd probably go for a wireless lav system in your situation, so can feed directly to a laptop for the streaming. With the Sennheiser MKE600 (and shotgun in general), the problem is as soon as you move a bit off-axis, the sound quality definitely takes a hit, and same thing if you get far from it. So it really depends how much you move I guess. But for that budget, you should be able to grab a very nice lapel system. Rode Wireless go + a nice Lav mic is probably around $300 all together. I also used to own the Smart Lav but was not really happy with noise floor and quality overall so I switched to a Tascam personnaly. Hope that helps! :)

    Thanks for the info! Would I see a noticeable decrease in quality if I plugged the MKE 600 directly into my Fuji XT3 using the 3.5mm adaptor (versus XLR a XLR recorder)? I film indoors, in a treated room, and am planning to place it on a boom pole above my head, just out of frame. (I prefer to avoid syncing my video/audio in post). If so, what mic would you recommend for my setup? Thank you.

    disagree - turn the videomic NTG all the way up to 15, it has its own preamps built in, you can get great audio if you're a one man production company. i get great audio with a camera mounted mic.

    if im using the xlr to 3.5mm adapter for the senn mk 300, does it still out perform the rode ntg going straight into the camera? or does the rode win here since that mic is meant for 3.5mm use?

    • @NicoSoro
      @NicoSoro  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey! :) In my opinion yes the Sennheiser is still better audio quality wise. The noise floor and dynamic range are not as good as when using it in phantom power but still better than the Rode. However, I would still pick up the Rode as an "on-camera mic only" because of all the extra features! (the auto on-off and back up track are just so convenient! I have drained so many batteries with the MKE600 and 3.5mm adapter because I forget to turn it off all the time...)

    Bmpcc4k has two audio input options. Mini xlr with phantom power and 3.5mm audio input. What will be a better option for bmpcc 4k? Sennheiser mke 600 or Rode video NTG?

    • @NicoSoro
      @NicoSoro  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey! I’ve got both the MKE600 and Videomic NTG and I like them both for different reasons.. if you’re after the best audio quality, the Sennheiser will be better (lower noise floor notably) but it does not have all the bells and whistles of the Rode, and it’s also quite large if mounted on top of the camera. Personally, I think a mic that is mounted on top of the camera will never do a very good job as it’s too far away from talent anyway (expect if you’re vlogging, but I don’t think that’s the case with a bmpcc) and overall to capture run and gun sound, I prefer the NTG because of how easy it is to use and the backup channel feature.
      Hope that helps.. :)

      @@NicoSoro I have already something like the Rode Video NTG. Synco D30. Few days ago i tested out the Rode NT5, that i use to record my acoustic guitar, into mini xlr input of my bmpcc4k and i was surprised how clean and smooth the sound was. I'm looking for a xlr shotgun mic that i can put it on top of the camera, also, on boompole. At the moment i decided to buy an Audio Technica at875r

    Can you please recommend which is better if we only consider sound quality..wireless go or videomic ntg..i also have same problem of using AC and road noises..is wireless go comparable or it is too poor if compared to videomic ntg..

    • @NicoSoro
      @NicoSoro  Před 3 lety +1

      I'd say if you can have the Rode Videmic NTG close enough to your mouth, then it's better, but if more than 50cm away, the NTG will not be very good and then Wireless Go is probably better. Hope that helps.
