      You didn't seem to understand, but it is obvious you've not done boxing yourself! It is not only knowing something throughly, but there is a lot of things like when you know how to accomplish it on the bag, mits, and than practicing timing and the distance by sparing every day, you catching the opponent making a mistake, having him leaning towards you (not only straight forward, but sideways mostly), using his motion, your motion and as i said with timing you hook the opponent and usually that is a knockout right there!
      I polarize for exploring my self for to long.

    Great advice! Took me years to get a consistent hook, then it became my favorite punch. The robot hook may feel lame but it has a surprising amount of momentum behind it. Casually rotating your torso with your hook out makes people’s heads feel like balloons in that your hook just goes straight through like their head weighs nothing. Meanwhile, trying to throw an explosive hook with the arm often just turns into a slap. It feels so counter intuitive but you can especially tell when hitting mitts, and you compare your hooks that thud through with the the ones that stop in place.

    Excellent info, thank you so much, always good tips to think about and apply. One thing that helped me was learning lead hooks southpaw. With your strong arm forward it feels less akward and you get a feel for what it should be like. You also realize all the things your body naturally does with its strong side that you have to stop and actively think about with your weak arm. It forces you to break down everything you do and really consider your technique. By the time you get a good rear left arm, you will have understood some things about how to move.

      @nonameguy2092 Před 4 lety

      hard2hurt I love your channel, there’s always something good to learn and chew over and you engage your audience, I want to thank you for that. I’m no pro, not even close, but I’ve invested a bit of time for my own personal edification. I started dedicated southpaw practice by getting in a boxing stance, putting my hands up in a high guard and focusing on rotating my left foot and leg from the ground up and getting a good snap, nothing else, many, many times. Then I did the same thing but with a focus on my shoulder, visualized throwing my weight through it. Then I moved on to throwing an elbow, which was a bit trickier, synchronizing the fast rotation of the foot while getting full extension of the elbow and rotating the opposite shoulder for speed and so I wasn’t tripping over myself. I went at it for a while like that, drilling that into my head by repetition. Finally when I opened up the elbow, the hooks were nowhere near mindblowing, but the kinetic chain flowed alot smoother, and my hooks were much better than anything I could produce before. I’m sure with more time and practice they can only get better. I also found that when I went back to my right side, I was more concious of how I did things and I feel like it made me better. And also my lead left improved, I’m guessing thanks to those mind-muscle connectons I made with those drills. I hope this wasn’t too long and made sense and I hope it helps whoever might read it.

    Hitting the bag is descriptive for newbies. The sound it makes when they connect tricks them into thinking they’re throwing nothing but heat when in reality you can literally slap the bag and it sounds just as ferocious

      Not remotely true , stop putting in work on 70lb heavy bags like a cardio kickboxing instructor, we can always tell when a dude comes in to see if he’s a good fit for the gym n you start hearing that shotgun go off from the other side of the gym that the dude can 100% crack

    Great hook technique coach. One of the best channels on CZcams for this kind of thing. The only thing that I would add here on hook technique - from someone with 20 plus years of boxing experience - is that usually, when you load up, your back heel will come off the ground a bit. As you pivot and come off the heel of the front foot, the back heel drops to the floor to facilitate the weight shift. It really does add some power to the shot.
