- Be sure to check out @calc84maniac's (the creator of the TI-Boy CE emulator)'s channel as well! Without his work this obviously wouldn't be possible!
This video describes the process of installing and playing both Gameboy and Gameboy Color games on the TI-84+ CE/TI-83PCE (Python) calculators! It also will explain how to setup the required jailbreak on your calculator if it needs it.

on my state assessment we are allowed to have calculators so instead of freezing in a room for 3 hours i had fun playing donkey kong and pokemon red. Thanks bro 🙏
Dang, you are good at this :O Thanks!
*edit:* to clarify, I'm referring to your preparedness and presentation
Thanks, it means a lot :)

your vids are really really really well done

it was quite the process but all worth it in the end, Thank you I couldn't have done it without this vid!
Thanks! I finally no longer have to worry about any existential questions I get during during break cuz I don't have any friends. 😅
Tysm for this! Really clear and editing is great
The voice cracks through the vid are hilarious
Glad to see I'm an entertaining guy 😉

Just found one of these calculators for a steal. I will definitely be installing this
Dude this is so awesome, thanks for the great tutorial!

Are you using the latest version of TI-Boy CE?
@@TInyHackerCalcsI figured it out. I reinstalled to the right version and it didnt work but it was because of the save file. i needed to relaunch the game
@@asharpiesniffer7553 Oh, okay! I'm glad it worked :)
Hey when I go from CabriJR to artifice, it says no ASM programs found
I had an issue while opening the game again, where the calc. said I needed 2355 more bytes of ram to access the game, I saw a comment relating to this subject, but I still cant figure it out. (I'm new to this kind of stuff...)
Bro has matured 4 fold
😂
I followd another tut for games but those where not many and fun games but i dindt had to jailbreak? I went to asm(prgrmand them the game i wanted to play, but if i do this wil it be necessary? I have the TI84 CE-T
You only need to use a jailbreak if your OS version is 5.5 or greater. You can check this by pressing [2nd] and [+] to open the mem menu, then scrolling down and clicking about. It should list the OS version there. I don't think you need the jailbreak if you already were able to run ASM programs, you only need it if the calc doesn't let you.
When I try to play a game it tells me I need 23000 more bytes of ram. What should I do?
Try archiving or deleting some of your files that are in the RAM.
thank you, I can now play tetris while I'm bored :D
Not necessarily related to the GameBoy but I do have a question about other games (got the GameBoy on the calculator btw it’s awesome)
I see that people have downloaded doom and Five Nights at Freddy’s on the original TI 84 Plus. Is there a way to download games from TI84plus for the TI84 Plus CE? And if not do you know where there is a port for those 2 games on the TI84 Plus CE?
Thank you!
Sadly, the answer to both questions is no :( However, there are still a lot of other games for the TI-84 Plus CE!

I had everything sorted apart from the rom but now all the files won’t download due to the archive storage issue
@@john_2k332 You need to delete your old ROM, which will be a bunch of appvars, if you don't have space. Try pressing the reset button on the back if the issue still persists after that.

When I open arTIfiCE, it says No ASM programs found! Is there any way to fix it? (btw love the vid)
Have you sent any assembly programs (Like the Cesium installer?) You won't see any if you haven't sent any. I'm glad you liked the video :)
I'm following both of your video tutorials on how to get games on the calculator and how to put the apps on USB, since I'd like to save some storage. However, I'm a bit confused, cause I'm mixing up the infos from these two videos: for example, once i transfer the files on the USB do I also need to download asm, as seen in this video? Sorry if you don't get me, but it's really confusing at the begin for me.
Yes, you'll still need the jailbreak. However, keep in mind that only the main program should go on the USB drive, the appvars need to be on the calculator for it to work properly.
@@TInyHackerCalcs atm I'm trying to do it without USB, but everytime I try to open tiboyce the screen shows the following error "unarchive the variable before use. 2nd Mem; Memory Management".
i have 5.5 version of the OS so i skipped the whole first part
@@bang_türk_varm Try installing Cesium and see if it works to run it from there.
@@TInyHackerCalcs update: I misread my os version, it is the 5.2. Somewhere I read that it was too old, so I installed the latest (5.8), followed this video (without using any USB atm) and everything works fine. Now, I have a question: I'd like to keep the default apps of the calculator, however the storage is really limited, so I asked myself if it's possible to put them on the USB as well as tiboyce, with the same method you showed in the other video.
@@bang_türk_varm Not the default apps, however, you could delete some (Like languages you aren't going to use, for example) and you can always download them again later from a website like TI-Planet if you want them back.
Hey I’m having a bit of a problem everything else is working good and I got to play a bit of Pokémon crystal on their but now when I try to open up any rom on TI Boyce it keeps saying I need over 4000 bites of rom of free space even though I’ve looked and I can’t find out what’s taking up all the space I deleted and redownloaded everything but it’s still not working
If you've still got all the AppVars for Pokemon Crystal you probably don't have enough space for other games as well, especially since Crystal is one of the larger ROs. If you want to get different games you'll probably need to delete Pokemon Crystal.
@@TInyHackerCalcs so I found a way to fix it and my solution was to just reset my ram then redownload Pokémon crystal thank you for responding
@@grimcreeper8196 Ah, interesting! Glad you got it working!
Thanks so much! very good tutorial 🙏
TYSM!
Why does my TI 84 Plus CE (Python edition) start charging when its plugged into my computer but its not appearing in TI Connect CE?
how do i delete games after i've downloaded it
You can delete the appvars that begin with your ROM prefix that you set when converting. For example, if you set it to something like "PKMN" then you delete all the appvars starting with "PKMN"
@@TInyHackerCalcs Thanks, I just got Army men: Sarges army 2 and it's cool seeing a game on a calculator
I deleted files to free enough ram, the calculator how has over 6000 bytes, but the game still says it requires 2355 bytes, can you please help me?
Try archiving files in the RAM instead of deleting them. It's also safer to have your files in the archive instead of the RAM so they do not get lost if your calculator crashes or is reset. To archive files, you can go into the Memory menu by pressing [2nd] and [+], and then go to the option for "Mem Management/Delete...". After that, go to "All...". You can scroll through your files there, and any file with a star next to it is in the archive. If there's no star, that means it's in the RAM. If you press [enter], the file you're currently selecting will toggle between archive and RAM.
Are the games easy to exit out of quickly? Like hypothetically if I wanted to mod my calculator and play games in class I could easily exit and open them?
If you press the [on] button, it will exit immediately.
Is artifice and stuff safe to install? I would still be able to use my calculator normally, right?
Definitely! I even use it on my own calculator :)
so I just encountered this as I booted up TIboy in class today. That it said it was out of ram despite me playing the games perfectly fine the day before. Any reason why I suddenly ran out of ram?
probably you have a lot of apps or games chosen with ram try putting tiboy as archive
Great Video!, I do have one question, how do I specifically send things to my archive as you mentioned?
When sending a file in TI-Connect, you should see an option saying either "Archive" or "RAM" for each file. You can then select "Archive". If the file is already on your calculator, you can go into the memory management menu with [2nd] + [enter], then select "Mem Management/Delete", "All" and you should see a list of all your files. Files with an asterisk "*" next to them are in the archive. Pressing [enter] will toggle whether the file the cursor is currently selecting is in the Archive or RAM.
my ce software is saying that the bundle type isnt allowed, what do i do?
Are you using the ChromeOS version of TI-Connect CE? If so, try using the bypass documented here: ceme.tech/t17238
i’m gonna ask my mama to buy me this for school, please wish me luck xD
Good luck lol!
I keep getting an error when I hit program. It says ERROR: ARCHIVED Unarchive the variable before use.
Any tips? I’m on 5.2
You can't run archived programs on 5.2 and older. Try upgrading to 5.3.0, which will not block assembly programs but allow you to run archived programs still. Here's a link to download 5.3.0 for the TI-84 Plus CE: tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=1138252
My emulator acts as if it were an original gameboy showing Pokémon silver in black and white and straight up not allowing me to play Pokémon crystal as its a GBC exclusive, any solutions?
Are you using the latest version? You can also try adjusting the palette or other settings.
@@TInyHackerCalcs It was an older version, it was a direct download from someone else’s tutorial, I’ve downloaded the latest version and it works, thanks!
@@MagnetonPlayer_2 I'm glad it works for you :)
I installed TiBoy CE on the ti84+ ce along with super mario bros deluxe and it wont let me install any more programs on it now
You probably don't have enough storage, try deleting some programs or apps you don't use.
If I want to download more than one game, would I have to repeat the entire process every time?
You only need to repeat the ROM conversion process for each new ROM you send.
Thanks!
Mine says no ASM programs found what do I do
Does it say that in arTIfiCE? Did you send any other files?
I have the ti connect program downloaded and I have all the files but for some reason the files won't go over when I drag them onto it in ti connect

would you know anything about custom interaction between PC and Calculator? Theres obviously TI-Connect but what I am more looking for is something like this:
1. Calculator sends data through USB to computer, suppose the data is just a simple number 1.
2. Computer gets the 1 from the calculator, then sends back another number, 2 to the calculator.
3. The calculator gets the number 2 and displays something on the screen to indicate it.
I have looked into the Get() and Send() commands but I couldnt figure out how to get the input from my computer.
I saw your video about fat32 support with cesium and that made me think that maybe i could get it to write to a file on my hard drive and then let my computer read whatever the calculator writes, which would look like this:
1. Calculator gets fat32 partition on my hard drive and writes to a file, lets call the file "INP"
2. My computer constantly reads the INP file to see if it has any input. if it does, then it writes into another file called "OUT".
3. The calculator reads OUT until something appears in it, then removes the data inside both files.
However, i was curious what your thoughts would be. Thanks
Hmm, sounds like an interesting project! The USB libraries for the C toolchain would probably be the best place to get started: ce-programming.github.io/toolchain/libraries/usbdrvce.html
@TInyHackerCalcs thank you very much, I'll try that
Thank you so much for this tutorial, one question tho, I’ve been playing Pokémon gold, and I exit by saving and then clicking the “on” button
Whenever I load the game i just get put right back where I was, skipping the title screen completely.
Is there a way to turn off the game properly or get to the menu screen in some other way
If you want to completely reload the game, you can hit [clear] and then choose the "Restart game" option. It won't delete your in-game saves, only reload the game starting at the title screen!
@@TInyHackerCalcs oh okay, thank you 🙏🏻
I noticed that in the button guide, “on” is “quick exit” and I thought maybe there was another way to turn it off
@@witext No, that's really the best way to turn it off. Makes sense you wondered!

@@bradymelo8952 well, on my TI 84 CE it runs at around full speed, it’s a bit slow and buffers a bit but it’s not bad at all
Considering how easy it is to get working and the fact that you get physical buttons on the calculator, it’s the best Pokémon gold experience I’ve had apart from an actual game boy
What happens when you have 5.2
5.2 is okay, though I'd recommend using 5.3.0 (nothing newer though) as it is more convenient and can run programs from the archive. You can download 5.3.0 on TI-Planet here: tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=1138252

Thanks for the awesome info, where did you download the mario rom?
Update I found and downloaded the mario rom for super mario bros deluxe for the gbc but it doesn't open properly. I know I have more than enough space.
Is it necessary to upload it to the archive or will it also work with the RAM?
Nope, it needs to be in the archive. There isn't enough space to send it to the RAM.
where is the data/progress for games stored on a calculator?
im playing pokemon red and want to force evolve my kadabra into an alakazam cus i cant trade on a calculator, but i need to get a hold of the .gb file.
is there a way to reverse engineer the files so i can get a hold of the .gb file i converted?
The best way to do this would probably be with the official save converter: calc84maniac.github.io/tiboyce/saveconverter/
I believe the save appvar should begin with the prefix you selected when making the ROM, and then end with "SAV".
@@TInyHackerCalcs i got it to work, thanks for the fast response and help!
