  • Hitting pure irons is something most average players only dream about. This tip shows you one of the main things you need to do at impact. If so, you will be copying the impact position of pros. You know who hits pure irons? Pros.
    So as you work on this drill just realize you are putting yourself in the impact position of pros. At first, you will not be good at it and your irons may not be pure right away but like anything you need to do the work to get the results.
    Most amateur players are just hitting with their arms so they never get into this impact position. So turn your arms off as you do this drill. It is about getting your body moving and this drill to hit pure irons will get you there. So be patient and try to do this drill as much as possible. The more you do it the more you will look like a pro at impact giving you the pure irons you've been looking for.

    Terrific advice. Tried this today on the course today, and felt like I was hitting my irons better than I have in years. More loft, more distance, greater accuracy. A really simple swing fix.

      Great to hear! So many people don't use the body and expect greatness. All they have to do is think differently and get their bodies moving. Any amount versus nothing is a huge difference in compression and distance.

      Hahah I'm sayin😂 I caught that too an it was great cuz I was thinking after he said if your foot is lifting instantly was like watch him rhyme it hahah just great but also this debate here of yes lift your heel don't lift it like I always see every pro have that little heel lift with the turn so this video just proves my buddy is full of crap 😂 idk how it works for him but we learned this in kindergarten maybe even preschool EVERYONES DIFFERENT so therefore I shall lift the hell with the twist haha

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You are hitting with your arms. I say this because you are hitting it too high and short. So there is a chicken wing which is locking your wrists and adding loft. Need to loosen the wrists and reduce the loft. So you need to get it going low left first. You do this by hitting the top and rolling the wrists. Do that here:
      czcams.com/video/M868QsTlGt4/video.html
      czcams.com/video/p4vASmOzkPg/video.html
      czcams.com/video/N-nGM6yN790/video.html
      czcams.com/video/yHEv7G9Z5-0/video.html
      A good shot is low left and hooking NOT straight. As you hit each shot look at the spin. Forget the direction, you want it to spin left. To do this you will be de-lofting the club (closed to the path through impact).
      Once you can do that (this is all of 10 mins) you remember this feeling of releasing it while you switch your thought to your legs and hips. Hit the top and fire the legs and hips then allow it to release. If so you hit it dead straight. If you were a 2 hdcp you already know how to use your lower body to power the swing. You must have taken ana break from golf. This break go you hitting. I have helped countless people in this situation and within minutes they get it back. Just follow the steps I outlined.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 10 měsíci

      Well, I can hit it flat footed too. Why you don't want to do that is because the hips would be pulling it off the ground. So to keep it flat you are purposely doing that which is unnecessary. Also, you are making a violent move with your lower body facing forward as your upper twists left. This will kill your back into the future. So that is what I going to happen to your friend. Just ask any single play Moe swinger who their back is. I have taught tons of them and they all had back pain from keeping this foot flat.

    Using this has changed my game this season like none other. Great stuff! One of my playing partners that hits flat footed with no turn has some trouble with distance and hitting the ground behind his tee. I suggested the hip turn and shifting his weight to his front foot and his next tee shot was impressive. He said, "wow thanks!"

      Very good. Glad to help. I wasn't joking about most people with no turn and just flat footed. This has to be 80-90% of everyone I see. Got to get people moving. If it was as easy as just whacking at it everyone would be good. This is the opposite. You are not hitting anything and generating the power with the legs and hips.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 5 měsíci

      Glad you like it. Thanks. Keep in mind people want to hit hard with the arms. The arms move way faster than the body in life. So you need to turn off your arms and lead with the lower body. This means you need to even be thinking of starting the lower body first. If you are not thinking about it it will never happen unless you are a kid with no arm strength. So from the top do not hit. Turn the arms off completely as you start the legs and hips. If so they will lead and the weight will shift. Keep at it. Sounds like you are on your way.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 11 měsíci

      Glad you liked it. Yes, use a tee if you are working on things. Gives you room for error. If you play it off the ground you need to do it perfectly but you just learned it. Why not tee it up. See you can do it. Then lower the tee once you are better at it. That is what pros do.

      I have seen this in the past. All you have to do it hit about 20 balls with the back foot flat footed. After 20 stop thinking about it and you will see it will be way less off the ground. Give that a try. Not hard to fix at all.

  • @user-so6fp7hf9g
    @user-so6fp7hf9g Před 10 měsíci

    On my irons I have been practicing hitting the ground hard on the downswing and trying to stop my swing at impact. The compression is extremely good. Probably adds 25% to my distance and lower ball flight. I know you practice an easy body swing which I now believe works in getting rotation. Would my thought about making sure to hit down on the ball and taking a shallow divot at or right after the ball be a wrong thought.

  • @rcg9573
    @rcg9573 Před 10 měsíci

    This makes complete sense because if you have done all other things correctly (not chicken winged your front arm or dipped or raised out of your set up posture during the swing) your club will ALWAYS bottom out where your center of gravity is at impact. If your body weight has not shifted onto the front foot by impact (a neutral body weight position) the clubhead will naturally bottom out wherever the clubhead was on the ground at set up (behind the ball and slightly fat shot), if you are hanging on your back foot on the downswing you have actually moved your center of gravity at impact further away from the target during the downswing instead of towards it) and the clubhead will naturally bottom out even further back away from the target and behind the ball - an even worse fat shot or a topped ball. The only way to get the clubhead to naturally bottom out just ahead of where the clubhead was on the ground at address (just after the ball for iron shots) is to have transferred your weight onto your front foot BEFORE impact.
    If you video most high handicappers swings virtually 100% of them either never make that weight transfer onto their front foot (with trailing foot hell off the ground before impact) at any point during their swing or they make that move on their follow through after the clubhead has already gone through the hitting zone when it is too late.
    There is no pro in history who ever actively tried to hit down on a golf ball (one of the very worst thing thoughts ever put out there). The entire and ONLY reason their clubhead is consistently on a descending descending angle into the ball on iron shots and fairway woods/hybrids is because they have properly made their lower body weight transfer onto their front foot prior to impact and this has moved their body's center of gravity slightly ahead of the ball (slightly ahead towards the target of where it was at initial set up) and this movement of the center of gravity towards the target causes the clubhead to naturally bottom out ahead of (closer to the target) of the ball from where their clubhead rested on the ground at address just behind the ball. NONE of them are actively trying to hit down on the ball including ALL iron shots.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 9 měsíci

      Well, first off you would be hitting fat shots. If you made contact they would probably be pushes. Hang back you tilt too much. The body tilt determines the path so it will be too much inside out. Watch:

    I'm at a loss recently. I've attempted this drill as well as your other drill for gripping down on the club to feel the loose wrist action for hours each. It seems no matter what I do that I cannot create forward wrists through impact. Taken videos and it seems my hip rotation has become more open, but somehow my hands are not catching up causing a flick and 1 or 2 degrees upward impact.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 10 měsíci

      I guarantee you are still hitting with your arms. Few people I see are ever loose enough. If you are adding loft YOU are adding loft. There has to be some chicken wing there. If you had zero arms they would be lagging. I will prove it to you. Do both of these drills and film your swing then tell me if you are still adding loft:
      czcams.com/video/syZXIyJNH-Y/video.html
      czcams.com/video/tHipoVuEzI4/video.html
      If you are then video your swing and send me the link. I will check it.

      czcams.com/video/MTLQWJLRAU0/video.html
      czcams.com/video/D8nVajmJejg/video.html
      Keep the club away from you and keep doing it until you get used to the feeling. There is no way you can do this if you are adding loft.

    I've played this game long enough and read enough magazines to realize, the difficulty of the game is just as everyone swings differently, people teach the game differently.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Well, I think I have you beat on analyzing the swing. You need to see it differently. All golfers who learned as adults are hitting with the arms. This is due to human nature of trying to hit a stationary object sitting in front of them (the ball). Kids have minimal arm strength. From ball one they used their body to hit the ball not their arms because they have no option. All pros do certain moves the same. This is what allows them to get to a level above and beyond everyone else. You just need to see it.
      Until average players learn these few moves they will never play to their potential.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes, you don't want to lift too quick. I have fixed tons of people of this. You need to hit 20 balls with your back foot flat footed. After than stop thinking about it and it will be coming off the ground less.
