More from Carols From Kings 2009. The choir sing the beautiful carol The Angel Gabriel.
The angel Gabriel from heaven came,
his wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame;
"All hail," said he, "thou lowly maiden, Mary,
most highly favoured lady,"
Gloria!
"For know a blessed Mother thou shalt be,
all generations laud and honor thee,
thy Son shall be Emmanuel, by seers foretold,
most highly favoured lady,"
Gloria!
Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head,
"To me be as it pleaseth God," she said,
"my soul shall laud and magnify His holy Name."
Most highly favoured lady,
Gloria!
Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ was born
in Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn,
and Christian folk throughout the world will ever say
"Most highly favoured lady,"
Gloria!
Words: Basque carol; para. Sabine Baring-Gould (19thC)
Music: Gabriel's Message, Basque carol; harm. Edgar Pettman (20thC) - Hudba
as a Muslim I find this really beautiful and majestic, God bless Jibra IiL, Gabriel, God bless our Christian brothers and sisters, our Kin, Peace upon you all
Wonderful comment to hear from our Muslim fellow citizen. If we in our Anglican Church can all respond as he has what a peaceful place this world could be.
God /Allah bless you too dear heart.
A Muslim is not a Muslim unless he believe Jesus Christ (PBUH) as the prophet
Before Jesus there were neither Muslims nor Christians but the believer were there,
I am a Muslim and the god of Abraham is my god
Although I am Muslim,Church carols are very special and breathtaking for me.Remembering God and paying tribute to prophets are always good,it doesnt matter if you do that in Church or Mosque.I hope one day I can visit Church too.May God bless you all.❤
I've only discovered this beautiful carol in recent years and it has fast become one of my favourites.
Hear too.
Wow. THIS is how it should sound. One of my favorite Christmas songs
This is one of my favorite Christmas carol. It fills me with the Holy Spirit...
possibly my favourite christmas carol
Pure Christmas music, at its very best. I come from Oxford but have to concede, there is no more glorious choral sound than Kings College.
Of all the Hymns I used to sing, this was the one I looked forward to the most!
And me absolutely beautiful

The acoustics in King's College Chapel are superb. The voices rise straight up and blend overhead.
They sound like angels singing.
Yes, indeed
The choir at my church sings this at Midnight Mass. I'm not in the choir, but I like this song.
I LOOOOOVE this song so much! Every time we sing it in choir I get chills.
What a Beautiful song!!! This is one of those rare ones where you get Goosebumps when you first hear it, true Church music that makes you love and (most importantly) *fear* God, very good singers all around, a masterpiece!
My favorite Christmas Carol. I remember as a young child going with my parents to my elder brothers school and hearing it for the first time. He was in the choir.
This is such a special carol...."Most highly favored Lady ..Gloria.."
One of the most beautiful of all the carols: loved by everyone.
Basque medieval music. British victorian arrangement.... the most beautiful music ever created. This is why Europe must stick together, strong in it's diversity .
Amen

Our choir is singing this at Midnight Mass, so beautiful
One piece of beautiful music for sure! So well done.We usually sing this carol at Mass on the Fourth Sunday of Advent.
what a beautiful, reverent sound with such warmth in their singing. How the different voices weave seamlessly throughout their rendition.
Beautiful, Old Traditional Christmas Carol.
Listening today for the Annunciation
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. This is to all denominations: If Luke 1:26-40 is your Scripture of the Day, this is a good hymn to compliment it.
ELCA Lutheran from Washington DC. We sing this during Christmastide.
This was the one that made me join the choir. :)
Just as we cannot benefit from a wrapped gift under the Christmas tree until we open it, so gratitude can be seen as our way of opening the gift of God’s love intended by all the small and big positive events of our lives.
Yes Judi Harbin. But what never ceases to puzzle me is that God is called a HE.
Why?
@@thelutheranorganist4846 It all began with the forced introduction of monotheism back in the Pharaoh's or Pharaohs's days. Why?
This was the first song when I was for the first time in a choir.
💗
is a Basque Christmas folk carol about the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary by the archangel Gabriel that she would become the mother of Jesus Christ the Song of god. A Basque folk carol, originally based on Angelus Ad Virginem, a 13th or 14th Century Latin carol,[2] it was collected by Charles Bordes and then paraphrased into English by Sabine Baring-Gould, who had spent a winter as a boy in the Basque country. The tune is called "Gabriel's Message".[3] It is commonly performed in an arrangement by Edgar Pettman published in his 1892 book Modern Christmas Carols.
In 2012, Kalakan trio performed an arrangement of this song based on the Basque oral tradition during the introduction of the show of Madonna's MDNA tour.
I never knew this. Very interesting history -- thank you!
❤
The first time I heard this song was when the album "A Very Special Christmas" was released; Sting performs it. Even then I was moved by it.
a beautiful rendition
LOVELY!!!! Just LOVELY!!!! The king's College Choir Cambridge Christmas carols (In the Bleak Midwinter is my VERY, VERY, VERY favourite) has always been played at the traditional mixing of the Christmas puds each year which is a LOT of fun!!!!!
The gift is given!
I had grown up hearing this Christmas carol on the vinyl LP entitled 'The Christmas Story' narrated by Franklin Englemann and Judith Chalmers, which my late dad owned, but interestingly enough this carol was not sung out our school or church, which is a shame as I think it's one of the best carols, which embraces both the Advent and Christmas seasons.
It was only as an adult that I got the opportunity to be familiar with this carol as one of my parish priests re-introduced me to this in 2002. I love listening to, and singing this carol. 🙏🏾 🎼👏🏾✝ 🌲
A relaxing Hymn. God Bless You!
Very, very beautiful Christmas Carol!
While certainly appropriate for a Christmas liturgy, it works better in an Advent carol service or Sunday hymn during advent Eucharist/Mass. The Annunciation was of course months before the birth in Bethlehem.
Nine months, in fact, Which is why the feast of the Annunciation (Lady Day) is on the 25th of March.
May the angel Gabriel sing. Repent! The kingdom of heaven is at hand!
Most highly favored lady . . .
Absolutely love this hymn. The girls in my school sing it so well!
Not WGHS, part of WGSF? I remember that the students of WGHS sang this every year.
Happy Feast of the Annunciation!
Just beautiful!
My favourite. God bless you all.
spellbounding certainly

Thankk you and bless you for posting this.
Today is the Feast Day of St. Gabriel. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
doing this as my solo at my school during carol service!!!!! i love it!!
One of my favourite. Beautiful my friend.
Amazing.
Lovely. Enjoy Advent and Merry Christmas. Happy New Year.
I first this moving carol sung on the radio by Janet Baker in the late 60s. Superb - surely someone has a recording (I used to have it on reel to reel type but stupidly threw them out in moving house). My wife also sings it very beautifully. But this will do as second choice.
Beautiful
I'll be singing this hymn in choir this Sunday, it has such a powerful weight to it!
I met The Angel Gabriel. No one will believe me, but I guess my faith in Jesus is all that really matters.
Bread yeah I don’t think so. Keep taking your medication
I have met angels too. They didnt tell me their names.
@@whocares2126 There are many things that each of us do not know about in this world. Its best not to assume too much or be too closed of mind.
@@sarahstrong7174 you're weird.
@@whocares2126It is my right to be as weird as I want. I have had unusual experiences, some of which have been shared with some others & I am more open & honest about them than most because I believe in sharing our experiences & endeavouring to learn from them. I would rather be weird than boring if I had to choose. Maybe as you progress through life you will find you have some odd experiences too. All the best my dear.

a definite thumbs up. LOVE this song and I will play it over and over and sing it as well.
Sublime!!
Purely and simply outstanding
lovely 🎆
Beautiful singing and words !
I sometimes reflect on the Annunciation. What did Mary feel at that time? Fear? Wonderment? Did she have any inkling of what was to come?
She probably didn’t feel anything, seeing as she didn’t exist.
My guess is that she did have an inkling; Who could go their whole life sinless and not notice? She might not have guessed, in fact she probably didn't, but once the Angel came, I bet she figured a good bit out.
@@joejoe1225 repent while you have time. No one knows when their last day is.,God exists, Jesus is Son of God and does not look kindly on those who mock His Holy Mother. No Mary, No Jesus, no salvation.
@@joejoe1225o Lord! May God bless you with understanding and peace!
I can't help it, we always used to sing "most highly flavoured lady" at school..
I adore this.
So beautiful.
Beautiful 🎄
I first learned this lovely carol when singing with the little choir at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Arcata, California. Then the Lutherans published it in With One Voice, and I started teaching it to students. I sing it faster than this, though.
A chilling hymn
Stunning
these guys have talent for their age very pretty :)
In the fullness of time He ( The creator of the universe) prepared for himself by means of perfection, the most perfect vessel by which to descend from incomprehensible greatness to mortality,
and thus, his Immense spiritual essence took upon himself the likeness of flesh & the human nature of the most magnificent human being to have ever been created!! by the hand of the Father (the Immaculate conception) Holy Mary
We can all approach God, but in no way can we present ourselves to him in the way Holy Mary would, as his mother, ... as our mother, the most perfect mother, because her purpose has never been to seek praise or attention for herself but with the purest love, instead to bring all humanity closer to her Son, ... God, and of course nobody is closer to him than the womb which bore him, the very person of which he took human likeness!!! the Immaculate Conception; Holy Mary
i love this song my choir well its not my choir but im a soprano member and we did this song and i did not expect it to sound so close to this but other than that i love this song

The angel Gabriel from heaven came,
his wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame:
'From God, all hail,' the angel said to Mary,
'most highly favoured lady!'
Gloria!

by him shall we to God be reconciled;
his name shall be Emmanuel, the long-foretold:
most highly favoured lady!'
Gloria!
3 Then gentle Mary humbly bowed her head:
'To me be as it pleases God,' she said,
'My soul shall praise and magnify his holy name.'
Most highly favoured lady!
Gloria!
