The choir of King's College, Cambridge sing Cesar Franck's well known setting of Panis Angelicus.
This is taken from "Sacris Solemniis", written by St. Thomas Aquinas before the year 1274. It is the Matins hymn for Corpus Christi, the great feast of the Body of Christ when the Church turns our attention to the great Gift of the Eucharist. Jesus gave us this precious Gift of Himself so that He might always be with us.
The English translation shown is just one of many interpretations of the Latin verse
Panis angelicus
fit panis hominum;
Dat panis caelicus
figuris terminum:
O res mirabilis!
manducat Dominum
Pauper, servus, et humilis.
Te trina Deitas
unaque poscimus:
Sic nos tu visita,
sicut te colimus;
Per tuas semitas
duc nos quo tendimus,
Ad lucem quam inhabitas.
Amen.
Bread of Angels,
made the bread of men;
The Bread of heaven
puts an end to all symbols:
A thing wonderful!
The Lord becomes our food:
poor, a servant, and humble.
We beseech Thee,
Godhead One in Three
That Thou wilt visit us,
as we worship Thee,
lead us through Thy ways,
We who wish to reach the light
in which Thou dwellest.
Amen.
Catholics have always had the most beautiful sacred music and sacred art. It ain't by accident either!! God has given so much to the Catholic Church, and we have in turn, tried to show His truth, His justice and His love to our fellow man.
I agreed with you, Iove all our Catholic songs.
Presumably God has given the good with the bad?
I think Iranian music is more beautiful than Catholic music honestly. I think that God expresses through humanity exquisitely through all cultures because each person is made in God's image an likeness. God expresses through us and does not favour one expression of itself over the other 💜
The Qúran also has beautiful music and as a chatholic i like listening to it when my muslim friends listen to it
Umm...what about Bach? He probably wrote the greatest sacred music in history, but was a Lutheran.
Wij danken God.
All you people who need comfort, this is what you need!
Verissimo!
This brings tears to my eyes, because my Dearest Mother LOVED this hymn.
Bless her and bless you. x

Sorry to say, but this is not medieval at all. This composition is utterly Romantic in its harmonies, really far from the Medieval style.
@@bettyafeia the original chant is medieval.
When you listen to voices this magnificent you want to confess all your sins ready for a better time to come.
Maggy, this is as good as it gets. This choir transports one to the gates of heaven. Then: extinction.
We are promised a better life in the here after.
What if there isn't

Cast out your demon of incredulity and then right after ask Jesus to open your heart. God had said "my people are dying for lack of knowledge". He means Eternal death
Pray for the unity of Christendom. Beautiful art.
The sweet, loving, authoritative, true voice of God and His Holy Catholic Church. Amen.
Næ vi hai, hao fi nait (silent night, holy night)

@iloveyellow They are; however, the College/Chapel was Roman Catholic when constructed (under Henry the VI). Henry the VIII exited the the Roman Catholic Church and started the Anglican Church after confiscating all Catholic Church properties (Abbeys, Colleges, Cathedrals, Hospitals, Orphanages, Convents, Mills/businesses, etc.). The lyrics to this hymn were written by Saint Thomas Aquinas, one of Catholicism's most influential philosophers, theologians, jurist, priest and Church Father. The music was written by Catholic French Composer/organist Cesar Franck. The song praises the Holy Eucharist which is referred to as "Panis Angleicus" (the bread of the Angles) which is believed to become the literal Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ through the miracle of Transubstantiation (Anglicans/Protestants do not believe this) and the consecration of the bread by the priest (which is in fulfillment of Jesus' command to his disciples at the last supper, "Do this in memory of Me").
Thanks for the information Still Bill
Vos es exspectata, frater.
This piece is to be played during the communion at my requiem mass

Magnificent Organ! Lovely rendition of Panis Angelicus..
Mana devine hrana oamenilor.
Pâinea cerului dă formă ideii.
Ce minune, Domnul devine hrană
celor nevoiași, celor împovărați și celor smeriți.
Te rugăm, Doamne, Unul și in Treime,
Să vii la noi așa cum te știm, ca sfânt;
Cu sfatul tău conduce-ne acolo
unde ne străduim: spre lumină, spre locuința ta. Amin!
Just beautiful! All parts are sung well.I feel the tenor is dominant with the descant being the icing on the cake.
"Bread of the Angels" fills our souls! Transcendent sounds carry us into the sphere of Love!

Ceasar Franck wrote the music for this. It is often used at weddings in Catholic churches. Regardless and what or where, this is an amazing a magnificent, beautiful piece.
Minunat! Minunat! Simt că am aripi şi aş putea să-mi aleg crugul spre Tatăl! Cezarina Adamescu
This is one of few hymns...or songs in general...that can actually bring me to tears despite the context.
Perhaps it is the context which brings you to tears.
Magnifique.
Happy Birthday Cesar Franck..thank you for this sublime piece.
César Franck is a glory of the Ardent City (Liège, Belgium).
The lyrics were written by Saint Thomas Aquinas
Praise God our King of Kings
only the Catholic Church have a collection of beautiful, solemn and majestic songs as this... and even if we have many separated brethren songs like this can tear down the walls and bring together those who believes and follow Christ... thank God we have people like Thomas Aquinas and César Franck....
ALWAYS wonderful to hear ... peaceful & angelic! Thank you!
Stunningly beautiful and humble. I feel the awe when listening to the amazing ANDREY NEMZER singing SAINT FRANCIS PRAYER. Such humility and inspiration!
Omg! It’s so beautiful I remember when I was 14 yrs old and I was in Westminster Abbey.
beautiful just beautiful.........................
“Panis Angelicus
Fit panis hominum;
Dat panis caelicus
Figuris terminum;
O res mirabilis!
Manducat Dominum
Pauper, servus et humilis.”
“The Angel's bread
Becomes the bread of men;
The heavenly bread
Ends all symbols;
Oh, wondrous thing!
It is the poor humble servant
That partakes of the Lord.”
Be safe. Be strong.

We can overcome the pandemic.

Christmas to Easter
My church choir sung this in a round, it was very fun and beautiful to sing~!
Listening to this after reading the news of Sir Stephen Cleobury's passing. Had the honor of meeting him when he came to do a masterclass with my high school choir in Baltimore, MD. He will certainly be missed.
This great piece calms the soul!
"Anunciar ao mundo a beleza da Igreja"
I sang this for my grade 5 and I still love it
Best version I ever heard.
It's always a pleasure to hear this piece when it's well sung. I'm not even a churchman.
Wow! This is one good thing about the Catholic church. Love how the sound is in there.
S Zee this is Protestant.
SZee-The hymn may be Catholic but here it is sung in a Protestant university Cathedral
c'est magnifique.
Masterful and riveting. There is no match to King's College.
Westminster Cathedral Choir is a match for them
mainly it is the building... you know, the echos
I quite like St. John's College Choir as well
No there isn’t! King’s College is also home of The King’s Singers, an octet of young men singing well-known pop tunes & love songs all a capella. They are sharp! And their harmonizing is spot-on & they’re also from Kings College. This choir here is phenomenal & the professional filming like the spanning of the church & then zooming in on the angels that are sculptured there, was extremely well-done. Let’s hope it was done by some in-house students majoring in filming & broadcasting or photography & audio-visual geeks…
I believe every one is amazing these people are amazing a singing in choirs like amazing Jesus Christ is probably love this choir prefor
Incredibly beautiful, so lovely !!!
So beautiful thank you for sharing.God bless
Maravilhoso. Bravo!
Linda melodia
Absolutely magnificent, thé boys and thé fantastic acoustics of this King's College Chapel.
Oh! Meu Deus!!! Meu coração fica tão pequeno com tanta beleza!
Just Beautiful
Aquinas, with the exception of Christ, is quite possibly the greatest genius that ever lived.
Tony de Jong Franck.
lol God doesnt exist...
If you just knew a little bit of science you would know god doesnt exist... you and the god beliebers are stupid
Dude, its impossible to that form of life to exist, if you knew a bit of the universe you would know it. If god exists, demonstrate it idiot.
With the exception of Christ and His Mother, who was the only one born without the original sin, Saint Thomas was, indeed, the most intelligent person who ever lived.
Piękny utwór oddajacy prawdziwie cześc i uwielbienie Bogu Wszechmogącemu.
best version
I Sing in a Church choir and we are learning this :D
INCREDIBLE!

wow excellent searching this for a long thanks for uploading
How could anyone possibly dislike this?!
So beautifully done!
there voices are some sorts of angelic in nature.
This is such a moving piece of music
wonderful chorus
Bread of the Angels become the bread of Man
Gives me goosebumps to hear it sung so well, in a perfect setting, by a boys choir!
Angelic
organ is the queen of instruments!
I am not religious at all but I am grateful that some composers were because this would be cause enough to get me into a church. Wonderful piece of music in all of its variations.
Absolutely stunning.
