Fun fact -
Back in those days we didn't have drones so we used actual vampires to shoot aerial scenes.
Werewolves also helped film the car chases in action movies. They didn't cost much either. Seems they enjoyed chasing cars.
THIS IS THE ANSWER I NEEDED!!! THANK YOU!!!! Although now I have a lot more questions...
@@KatWatchesHorror - Ask away😉 This is fun👍
Okay this one got me. Bravo.
Joel Schumacher 80’s trend 👍🏻
The "All the damn vampires" line is one of the best last minute twists in cinema XD
It's the greatest fade to black quote of all time.
The actor who played the grandpa in Lost Boys also played the grandpa in Blossom a couple years later. Another one of his favorite lines of mine is when the boys think they're busted, but turns out grandpa's just mad because they didn't fill up his gas tank after borrowing his car.
@@DracoSolon I dont know about that. "I am Iron Man" might beat it out.
I do love that line was coming to say it was my favorite twist :>
"My own brother a g*ddamn, sh*t-sucking vampire! Oh, you wait 'til mom finds out buddy." - Corey Haim's delivery on this line is perfect.
😂😂😂
Kat should follow this up with werewolves and more Corey Haim in Silver Bullet! Which would mean more 80's and Stephen King as well. :)
Silver Bullet is so underrated.
Just what I was going to say! Great taste! RiP Corey ❤
Agreed!!!
Peak Busey!

_Fright Night_ (1985) should definitely be right up your alley in terms of vampire films. It also has this coming-of-age feelness, as well as pays tribute to the Hammer Horror films.
yes!!! Fright Night is awesome!
I always had a theory about grandpa, that he was actually a half vampire. That is why he is so heavily into taxidermy, because he feeds on animals to quench his thirst for blood. His "off limit" shelf with his "root beer" was actually his blood supply. And he was a part time vampire hunter, always looking for his head vampire.
I love that theory!
What a film. We loved it in 1987. Its still the best vampire film I think. Dianne West. Jason (featherhead) Patrick from Speed 2 (dad was also Damien Karras the young priest in The Exorcist) the 2 Corey's. Him RIP & feldman. Edward Herrman RIP, Alex Winter (Bill from the Bill & Ted films) as Marco the first vampire, first staked. Jamie Gertz as Star also seen in Twister with Helen Hunt & the amazing Bill Paxton. This film was SOO BIG when it came out. The soundtrack is iconic. I can't believe you haven't seen this before Kat. Oh BTW. You look soo much like a young Barbara Streisand. I have a photo of her & it looks like you. Big style.
There's also Lost boys 2 & 3. Kiefer Sutherlands nephew or cousin is in number 2 with Corey Feldman & special guest cameo by Corey Haim. Sadly Haim had passed away by the time number 3 came to production.
Was the root beer Mr Johnson’s blood?
🤔
@@robbob5302 Lol, no, otherwise he would have became a full vampire.
Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire.
This was the on the poster/billboard for the movie.
"My own brother, a blood-sucking vampire. Well, you wait 'til mom finds out, buddy." 🤣
Followed closely by "So what are you, the flying nun‽‽‽"
It’s “My own brother, a godd@mn schit sucking vampire. You wait till mom finds out buddy!”
Then you'll REALLY be in trouble LOL
Bahahaha
"Don't get caught with your head in the Star's."
I'm DYING! 🤣
I eat up a good cunnilingus pun.
"One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach. All the damn vampires."
“You still got a chance Feather Hair.” Is hilarious.
You know if you liked this movie then the original "Fright Night' might interest you as well. But if you want something completely different then 'House' (1984) is definitely that.
Yes, I completely agree, 85 Fright Night and House are perfect choices.
Fright Night is the best Vampire movie ever made.
I agree on both.
"House" for sure. And no, Kat, there will be no Hugh Laurie.
Total good call!
Thats lowkey one of my favourite parts of the movie.
Grandpa doesnt question why they are all covered with blood and taking an unconscious woman and child upstairs, he is only concerned about his car!
Yeah, kids will be kids, but they better respect their elders property lmao
The funniest thing to me is the grandpa knowing about the vampires, seeing all the evidence, letting the boys 'get rid of him', and then coming back to save the night.
Like 'ok, boys, have fun slayin the vampires! I'll be back to help finish up'
Dude it was the 80s. The latchkey generation, adults didn't care what we did just as long as we were out of the house all day but back home before the streetlights came on.
Vampire brother at the window scene - "I'm your brother, let me in." - Is an homage to Steven King's _Salem's Lot._
That scene freaked me out as a child. Im 51 and its the first thing i think of when i look out a window at night. Also the rocking chair scene got me too.

Finally! Someone acknowledges the best line in the movie..."Death by stereo!"
the "cute kid" is Corey Haim one of the two famous Corey's in the 80's (the other being one of the frog Bros.) unfortunately a lot of bad stuff happened to him and he's no longer with us. I used to love their movies when i was growing up. this being one of my favorite movies of all time.
It was his association with Corey Feldman that was his undoing. That dude is bad news.
@@beestingza nah dude... It was Hollywood in general. He started getting abused before they became the duo. Sad story all around because nobody wanted to listen to any of them about what was happening and now it's all coming out.
@@beestingza. Did he [Feldman] still ever tell who it was that did all the “bad stuff” to him and Haim? I remember a few years back he was trying to raise money and if he hit that number, he would reveal who, or who all, it was. It was during the MeToo time.
@@frankiek2269Feldman and a few stars point at Charlie Sheen and someone else who assaulted him.
Sadly, it was revealed that both Corey Haim and Feldman were abused in their youth. Feldman was able to somewhat handle it, while Haim turned to drugs and other substances to manage his depression.
While multiple people denied allegations of abuse, including Corey Haim's mother, it can't be denied that those in charge of managing Haim during his younger life failed him.
From being attacked on set by a co-star as a kid, to smoking weed during his time filming The Lost Boys, Corey Haim needed a guardian in his corner to protect him.
Can't put the full blame on Feldman, he was a victim to.
@@justin-jesus7866Both Coreys were abused coming up in Hollywood and dealt with their demons differently. I hope Haim found peace. RIP
*No one. Absolutely no one*
"You know what this movie needs? A big buff oily man playing a saxophone by fire."- the makers of The Lost Boys
Hahaha! Yes!
"Dark all Day" by Gunship. that man does another vampire sax song! and used to play w/ Cher
Tim Capello ~ "I Still Believe"🎷👍
He was Tina Turner's sax player for a LONG time.
It certainly wouldn't be the last time we saw Joel Schumacher add in gratuitous homoerotic elements to his films (Batman & Robin being somewhat infamous for it), but directors can have their quirks!
@alharron2145 - Maybe it wasn't "homoerotic"🤔 Maybe he was just adding something in for the ladies who frequent Chippendales🤷♂️
*Btw: Helicopter. They flew the helicopter up to the cave - then ran the footage in reverse.* That’s why the ocean waves are moving backwards in that shot. That’s how they got that.
The reversed waves also give these scenes an "otherworldly" quality. Perhaps giving us a glimpse of how vampires may see the world.
"Stake. It's what's for dinner!" lol! I loved your reaction! This is definitely one of the best vampire movies, and best soundtracks!
"Dirty shoe on the pillow - Nuh Uh!" Kat understands what real horror is.
The cabin in the woods, comedy horror, and chris hemsworth is in it, you will not be disappointed.
You wait till mom finds out, buddy!
This and the original Fright Night are the two best Vampire movies of the 80s.
Also Near Dark.
Fright Night is better than overrated Lost Boys
they did for vampires what American Werewolf and Howling did for werewolves. I guess it always goes in two. lol
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 with Werewolves, I love both movies but American Werewolf in London is the better movie. I have watched a few of the Howling sequels and haven’t found one that is good. All the Howling sequels suck so far. I like Gingersnaps, and the Jack Nicholson Wolf movie. The Wolfman remake, I thought was pretty good. Monster Squad uses a Werewolf in an awesome way. I love Sliver Bullet.
@@biguy617 The Howling 2 is a Guilty Pleasure 😂
This movie was filmed in my hometown of Santa Cruz California. The city made them change the name from Santa Cruz to Santa Carla because at the time of filming the local population was still recovering from dealing with the tragic events of 3 serial killers being active in the area at the same time. John Linley Frazier, Herbert Mullin, and Edmund Kemper wrecked havoc on our small town from 1970-1973. I was born soon after but grew up in the fallout.
Later the town embraced the film and it was shown every year on the beach in the exact location where the oily man playing saxophone was shot, up until the whole COVID thing happened.
Whoa, that's creepy! Did the movie crew even have to put up all those missing children posters or were those all still up from before?
@@chrisleebowers That was just for the movie. The scenes at the boardwalk, the parking lot, the restaurant, the comic store, and outside Grand Dad's house were all in Santa Cruz. The cave and most of the indoor scenes were on a set. The cave they blew up in the end was much further down the coastline.
I've always wanted to visit there. I've seen the movie so many times the location has become one of the characters.
"They're flying home, you better wrap it up". LMMFAO!
Keifer's career has been mixed. Lost Boys, Flatliners, Dark City, Mirrors, Phone Booth, 24. Each a different kind of thriller. I really recommend Phone Booth.
Kiefer has some great range. He can play heroes and creeps equally well. I think Kat would enjoy him in Freeway, with Reese Witherspoon
Don’t forget “Stand By Me”
Kiefer Sutherland is not only an amazing & handsome actor, but also a great singer!!
Phone Booth is very good
I always appreciate the maggot call back in What We Do In the Shadows 🤣
I laugh every time at that 🤣
Kat you ARE FUNNY! No sad face, love your sense of humor. It keeps me coming back, don't ever hide that. Thank you for your channel!
More Keifer Sutherland: Flatliners with Kevin Bacon. And, of course Keifer’s dad, Donald Sutherland in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Flatliners was a wild flick, yes
"You can take the earring out, it's over" 😆dead The best reactions as always!! And I'm sure you're an honorary Frog Brother.
"I can help with my kisses..." Never change Kat lmao.
Haha, the head vampire's hound of hell protector's name is "Thorn". I could be wrong but I think that is a nod to the Antichrist character in The Omen series, "Damien Thorne", who always had hounds of hell watching over him all the time.
FAVORITE vampire movie EVER. Another good one is Fright Night (1985).
Fun fact: Actor Jason Patric’s, Michael, father played Father Carras in the Exorcist. Jason’s younger brother, Joshua played an old vampire trapped in a young boy’s body in the western-horror Near Dark. Near Dark also stars Lance Henrickson, Jeannette Goldstein and Bill Paxton right after all three finished filming Aliens.
- My Respect to you my friend, no one EVER talks about Near Dark, one of my all time favorite movies, and one of the best Vampire movies I have ever seen.
"Jesse Hooker - I fought for the South. We Lost"

NEAR DARK (1985). Yup. NEAR DARK should be your next vamp viewing experience. Trust me, you'll love it.
A underrated vampire movie from the 90s that I would like to recommend would be innocent blood and I think it's from the year 92 or 93.
Pretty underrated, considering John Landis directs.
Fun fact about vampire media. Most of the stories you have to drink a vampires blood to turn. The bite in a lot of stories doesn’t turn at all. It’s usually the vampire bites then gives its blood to the victim to turn them.
Vampire lore is definitely one of the most diverse in media. Lots of good variety.
In my headcanon there are different species of vampire much like any other kind of animal. There are those that still look rather human like David and his gang. Those that look more monstrous like Nosferatu. Those like Dracula that CAN go out in the sun, but his powers are weak.
@@Thehorrortheterror yeah. I like that idea too. I like the idea of older vampires looking more like nosferatu and monstrous
Near Dark is another great vampire movie worth watching.
Jason Patric's dad is Father Karris (Jason Miller) from The Exorcist.
Jason Miller’s other son played Homer in Near Dark which is also a vampire movie that came out in 1987.
Jackie Gleason(the Honeymooners) is his Grandfather
@TheAbominableDrFaustus I forgot about that! I need to watch that again for both him and Bill Paxton.
@@user-nt8lq4rp3z Paxton is for sure the best part of Near Dark.
Jason Patric is a awful actor he stunk up the joint in Speed 2
The saxophone guy still plays concerts now
This is the only movie that made me want to be a vampire
"Nothing bad better happen to this cutie kid..." Corey Haim: 😢
These vamp transitions scared the absolute crap out of me as a kid. I was always afraid David was going to come out of the ceiling and get me. Still one of the BEST vampire movies in existence!
I’ll never get over “that’s not even blood, it’s sloppy juice”
Best last line in a movie, hands down.
When David shed a tear when his hand got burned by the sunlight, that was a real tear. The contacts was irritating his eyes making them water.
11:59 - Unfortunately, actor Corey Haim died of pneumonia at age 38. It's said that it was a development from an habitual overuse of narcotics. I can't remember if you reacted to it or not, but Corey Haim was in another classic (Stephen King) horror movie when he was even younger titled, "Silver Bullet". Great movie!
I like how the dog barks when Sam yells, “Mom, help! He’s gonna get me.” 🤣
Kat your facial expression with the grandpa at the end was priceless! 😂 Fairly sure I did it!
I love the slight corniness: "You're a vampire! Wait till mom finds out!"
Right? Like, the fact that he thought that was the worst that could happen now? I fuckin love it lmao
Another fun fact, That ripped man playing the hell out of that sax, Atleast as of couple years ago, is still ripped and rocking that sax.
This movie is one of my all time favorites. Fun fact. The grandpa is actually vampire hunter. If u follow him through out the entire movie. He is Always leaving the house at night, ect.
There is even one scene. Of the grandpa planting those fence posts into the ground around his house. But he was planting them into the ground with the sharp pointy stake end facing up.
This also explains why, EVERY time you see his truck, he has those large wooden stakes laying in his open truck bed under a tarp. Just waiting to be used like they were at the movie's end. Also explains why his house has so much exposed wood which can be used as improvised stakes.
Of course, he could also just be a lumberjack.
Nanuk - counted to 3 and showed Michael who’s boss.
lol
Love the fur baby ❤❤❤
No one messes with Nanook's boy
In case you don’t know, Lost Boys is a Peter Pan reference. They are the never aging kids Peter brought to Never Never Land.
Yeah I guess it was supposed to be a "dark" Peter Pan story originally, the excellent title is all that remains.
The original story idea was the protagonist would have a younger brother that became a vampire. That would've never worked out. Scary kid vampires sound like fun, but killing young kids, not so much.
@@timmooney7528 Yea from what I understand the vampires would have been kids instead of teenagers. I still think it could have worked. If they ever want to revamp it, they could always go back to the original script.
People are lost until Jesus Christ finds you or until you find Jesus.
Peter Pan didn't want to grow up and have responsibilities but, Wendy wanted to grow up and have responsibilities.
Some fun facts about this movie. The vampires are all destroyed in the same order they jump under the bridge. The reason why David is the only one in the group that wears gloves is due to the fact Keifer Sutherland crashed during one of the bike scenes and broke a few fingers at times you can spot the cast poking out under the glove. The scene were David has a tear running down his eye was real. Those contacts the actors had to wear was excruciating and during that take a tear escaped Kiefer's eye and the director decided it would be great to keep in the movie.
The Vampire effects in this movie also had a large effect on how the vampires in the buffy the vampire slayer show where made. The character of Spike is actually based off of David. The sequel was originally planned to have an all female gang of vampires which in my opinion probably would have been a lot better than what Lost Boys 2 the tribe turned out.
Kat, you are hilarious. Thanks for this reaction. The Lost Boys is my all-time favorite vampire movie.
"You can take the ear ring out, its over"
I'm dead 😂😂😂😂👌
Notice that Michael looks a lot like Jim Morrison for a reason.
in one of my imaginary worlds, Jason Patric starred as The Lizard King in an awesome movie about The Doors...
Best facial expressions and corny puns and jokes interspersed with insightful commentary on CZcams! It's always a joy watching you experience the classics from my youth for the fist time... and yes, this WAS FUN!! 😁
😂It's impossible to overestimate the influence this movie had on dress, clubs, music, style, soundtracks, visual effects, gore, I know I pretty much sounded dressed walked talked like this from my teens through my late twenties! When stand by me was being filmed, Kiefer and Cory were being seen, and already in line for this movie. Made stars out of most of them! And Jason Patrick became huge as a serious actor! And the small vampire went on to Bill and Ted! And how many later 80-90s movies actually reference this one, starting with reservoir dogs?!?!after this movie, most of these stars, specially both Cory's, Kiefer, and specially Jamie gertz, became huge. Jamie became THE it girl, besides Julia Roberts!
This is the best "modern" vampire movie. Iconic actors, great soundtrack and overall very cool.

I think it falls into psychological horror. I was tenser watching that movie the first time than I had been watching a movie in years. Still good on rewatches.
I’ve always thought Grandpa and Nanook were the stars of this movie.
“Sloppy juice”! My favorite:)
it’s called “The Lost Boys” after the boys in Peter Pan cause they’ll never grow old
The boys complaining about being in an awesome beach community with live music, a bunch of cool shops, and an amusement park… I grew up in a town where tipping cows and smoking meth were the local past times. I’ll take the vamps just give me the rockin’ boardwalk!
“Wouldn’t get caught with your head in the Stars…” Well, can no longer watch this movie without thinking of that. Thanks. 😂
"Why are your clothes transparent, too,Michael? Huh, Michael? Michael? Michael. Michael. Michael. Michael? Michael!" I kid because I un-apologetically love this movie. It's stood the test of time remarkably well, despite its distinct 80s-ness.
“Killer tunes” is almost as good as “death by stereo”. Well done!
Yup. Grandpa knew all along.
I think Grandpa's "root beer" is blood in disguise making him a half vampire
That rawrw rawrw thing he was white knuckling at 5:58 was the throttle. : )
Instant 80’s movie, add one, or more, Corey’s, stir in mullets, add characters with names like “Star”, season to taste, print and release.
But it’s the Corey’s that make it.
This was such a fun reaction! I love this movie, and fun fact...my dad was an extra at the beach concert in the beginning. He was in Santa Cruz, CA on a business trip, and went for a walk on the boardwalk after dinner and noticed a large crowd and lights. They were filming the movie and looking for extras to be in the crowd. So, fun.
"I wouldn't get caught with your head in the stars" lol nice 😂
Also your "killer tunes" was better than "death by stereo" :)
I absolutely love this movie. I saw it back in the late 80s when it came out and was so impressed. My favorite part of the movie back then and even to this day is Barnard Hughes's portrayal of Grandpa.
Kiefer Sutherland has another film from that era that most people overlook, yet you would probably find quite intriguing. It's called "Flatliners" and has an all star cast: Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt, etc. It definitely falls into the category of "Horror", especially as it was seen in 1990 when it was released. I remember everyone in the theater being shocked at what they were showing.
It's a joy to see your reactions as always, this has an extra nostalgia load for me as I watch it when I was a kid. Tim Cappello on the saxophone was beyond legendary in this movie, as people already mentioned :D
One time I looked up the transcript for this movie to see how many times they said, "Michael"
I don't remember the exact figures, but they definitely said Michael in this movie more than this other movie titled "Michael."
hahaha brilliant. Me and my friends used to call each other Michael alot after watching the film. We would apply it to anything e.g "pass the drink Michael" in Kiefer Sutherland voice.
I’m a kid of the 80s and I totally wanted to be Kiefer Sutherland after I was mesmerized by his Lost Boys coolness. #80sGoals
"The girl I like likes 'bad boys' and my hair is really fluffy. I need something to counter-balance, down below."

A Story that keeps moving forward, doesn't outstay its welcome and the soundtrack from multiple decades and genres adds class to the genuine classic family film. It surely is a film for young teenagers who may be getting in to music and horror & comics so this is a great intro to all of that.
I. Am. So. Happy. You get to experience this movie. It was it constant VCR rotation when I was a kid. Edward Scissorhands, Jurassic Park, Goonies, Star Wars, Gremlins, and a handful of others were worn down and had to be bought a couple times.
Loved the reaction, as always! I highly recommend Critters, only so that you can watch Critters 2, another classic for the time period. The whole series is great, and I just found out they did another one in 2019 (going to watch it now.)
