A long time ago, I ordered a sample onesie from Printful only to be disappointed (I didn't like the print quality and a corner of the graphic wasn't printed correctly). • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Jana, all good points! With POD there definitely is a chance things can go bad with the print. I sold over 13k items last year and less than 2% of them had an issue, so definitely not super often but still happens. The thing I really like about Print On Demand is you can scale your business to selling 500-2000 shirts per month without having to hire employees or spend all of your time making shirts. So I think it's a good option if you are looking to be able to travel a lot while working on your Etsy shop, or like me I quit my job and now do CZcams full time and Etsy just runs on autopilot while I focus on other things.

    You are such an inspiration and so informative. I Love your videos. I am 53 and have been diagnosed with Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Fibromyalgia as well as another autoimmune disease Sjogrens disease, therefore I only have about 25% vision in one eye and 50% in the other. Going blind is not far away. Not to mention Chronic pain, etc. I have not been able to work in about 8 months now. I spent a year in school getting a degree in the Medical Field, and after just a few months this all began, rendering me from working away from home. So now I am home and my husbands income covers bills as of now, but with inflation as well as high grocery prices its tough. So I'm hoping to be able to start with the $100 dollars I have. My question is when you have the expenses is this money coming from sales to cover this (expenses)? And, how long does it take to get your money from sales? Again thank you for these videos. I need something from home and I'm hoping this is it.

      The Life Hacker Couple came out with a course last year though that has really everything you'd need to know if you are just getting started, all in one place and in order which is amazing. Here's the link to my video review of their course if you want more info! czcams.com/video/vDin4mPHBkA/video.html
      You don't have to buy a course to be successful in POD but it does help to cut down the learning curve a ton! And there course is on sale right now for $297 instead of $500. Either way good luck, just getting started and trying new things until you find what works is the answer

    Hi Cassiy, thank you for the videos, I love them! So straightforward. I was looking at the group listings, eg bridesmaid t shirts, and it seems all the listings I see in that niche are priced ridiculously low, eg $13 or even $10 a shirt. I was wondering how you differentiate yourself with that low pricing?

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety +11

      Hi Estelle! Great question, most of those listings have just one color shirt in size XS that is that price or a baby onesie for that price etc. They don't actually sell the shirts for that cheap, its just a ruse to get people to click their link.
      In my opinion, people come to Etsy to buy a unique high quality item not just the cheapest shirt that they can find. I have sold over 20,000 shirts at mostly the $25/shirt price point so trust me, people are willing to pay it. Don't worry as much about competing on price. If you have a great design in a market people are already to looking to buy in and great mock-ups, you will get sales!

Also can you do a video on how to properly name your store and a video breaking down your monthly expenses. I noticed that within your revenue and profit photos your expenses were very different. Is it because you sold more shirts? I was a little confused on that and I think a breakdown of expenses would be helpful, if possible. Thanks 😊

      Hey Nikki! I am so excited for you to start your journey! My best advice is to just literally open your store today and post something... anything! Everyone I've ever met says they wish they just would have started sooner so do yourself a favor and just get started! For the name, everyone just picks something random and I don't think you should overthink this and you can always change it down the line.
      You are able to open multiple shops, just have to open them with different emails. I have my t-shirt shop always open in safari and my mock-up store always open in Chrome!
      I'd be happy to break down the monthly expenses if that would be helpful! Maybe I'll do a video on my 2021 sales and breakdown one of the months to make sense. Also if you didn't see the update in the comments, I think its June or July, I added 10k to my expenses one month on accident, but its just a typo lol my bad!

When you say you had 500 listings do you mean that you have 500 unique designs or some were same design but different variations? 🤔

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety +1

      At that time they were probably mostly all unique designs, I'd say 350-400 of them at least because I did start putting items on sweatshirts, mugs and totes at one point when I listed them as well but its hard to look back and remember when I started that.
      For you, I'd focus on coming up with a few "design templates" so find a style for a shirt like a rainbow with a nice easy to read cursive under it, or the same words repeated in different colors on a shirt etc. and model it off of best sellers you have seen before. Don't copy but make sure it looks trendy like other things that have sold. And then make a bunch of designs for different niches with the same design template. You don't have to recreate the wheel every time you design! Hope that helps you get off in a good direction!

      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety

      Wow I am surprised by that Dawn! There are usually expenses that comes with starting a business. I would recommend looking at just the amount of profit and considering if that's worth it to you. These were my first 8 months of sales, I worked full time for 4 of those months so this was truly my side hustle just done after work for half of that time and I made 32k Profit after paying taxes. That is what a lot of people make in a year working full time.
      You have to decide if that's worth it to you or not obviously but there are ways to do this with less expenses. You could start a digital download store instead, you could sell the pngs for other people to put on their shirts, then there is only the fee of the design software you use and Etsy fees.
      Good luck either way! Just don't let these doubts hold you back from starting your own business. It may not be perfect but its better than working for someone else forever!

How much customer service is involved? Do you wake up to an endless pile of messages from customers asking where their order is? I feel like 2 weeks is a while and customers get so impatient. Any insight would be appreciated!

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před rokem +11

      Totally understandable to be wary of this but these print companies do a great job! Out of 13k orders last year, less than 2% had an issue and some of those were shipping issues. But Printify stands behind it and if anything is ever wrong, just send them a picture and they will either refund it or send a replacement! If something is lost in the mail, they make you wait 7 days for it to see if it updates, if not then they will send a replacement. So try to trust them, they really make it as easy as possible!
      And without using them, I wouldn't have been able to scale as fast as I have! So the trade off is so worth it in my opinion. The hours I would have spent printing and shipping my own items, I got to spend making new things to sell instead and because of that, I have made tons more money!
      As for customer service, I'd say anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour per day. During the peak few weeks around Christmas, it might be an hour - two hours per day at the worst and that was when I sold 100k in one month, so usually it should be very manageable!

    I just realize something I may be doing wrong, not a dog if I have a sweatshirt that I offer different colors, do I make those six different listings? And then when you go in see different colors. Am I doing wrong?

    Hi Cassiy I know this is an older video but I’m binging your videos and I’m very interested in doing print on demand. I have a creative designs that I wouldn’t mind selling and making some extra cash. I have a question regarding the expenses it takes from the Etsy shop and Printfy…do you have to pay printfy up front or will they take it out once a sell is made? I’m sorry if you mentioned this.

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před rokem +2

      Hi Bianca! So glad you’re enjoying my videos! When you make a sale on Etsy, Etsy communicates with Printify to make the order, and Printify charges you for the item. So Printify doesn’t charge you until you make a sale, hope that clears it up! :)

    And how do your do niche research or find hot selling items.
    Do you sell t-shirt and sweatshirt

      Hello! I will be doing a video in the future for 2021! I sell t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and tote bags. I typically only sell in the larger niches like Teachers, Bachelorette shirts, etc and then find sub niches from there just based on what I see in the search results.Or for Bachelorette shirts, I would for example, go online to see the top themes for bachelorette shirts for 2022 and make shirts for all of them. I'll be making more videos on this in the future!

    You mentioned you did a free tshirt giveaway.... how did you actually do this? Did you give the persona coupon to use on your store or did you ship them the tshirt directly from your printer or is there another way. I tried creating a coupon code, but it won't let my winner checkout.

    Hi Cassiy. Thanks for this video. Very inspiring. I have about 250 listings but very few sales. I started in November. I feel like I must be doing something wrong. What do you think

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety +3

      Hello! Great work on getting started but I know its frustrating when you don't get many sales. You started at a hard time. You typically want to post things 8-12 weeks before the particular holiday to really have time to rank well and get some sales before everyone starts buying. January and February are the slowest months of the year so it can be tough to break in when you did unless you are selling what people are currently buying.
      Just try to focus on bigger niches that are selling currently or are coming up. A few ideas are Teacher Shirts, Family trip shirts, Cinco De Mayo, Autism Awareness month, Mothers day and Fathers day. Just keep trying until something hits!

    Pretty awesome details. Have you ever hired any outside designers ? Do you have any graphic design background? I am just curious about the best software for design. I've designed on Canva but not sure if that's going to cut it.

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety +3

      Great questions Patrick! I have never had any previous design background and have made probably 95% of my own designs using the Go Daddy Studio App/Canva. I have hired a few designers for things I can't make on Fivver and also have purchased a few different pre-made designs on Etsy before.
      You'd be surprised at how simple most best selling designs really are, simple really does sell! I'm going to make a video soon of some of the best selling design styles on Etsy, hopefully that one can give you some confidence!

      Hello! I have 1 Etsy store for all of the niches, I have them separated somewhat into 20 different categories in my shop but more are just in a general category. I did make a video on the benefits of having a niche store vs a general store as well. Definitely check that one out as well if you haven’t yet!

    hi cassy loving your videos, do you think there is a magic number of listing to have before you start getting consistent sales. just wondering roughly how many you have?

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Justine!! There is no magic number, its more about making designs that are trending now, and having what is selling right now. If you follow my advice and always make designs 8-12 weeks in advance for holidays/seasons, then you will start to see consistent sales by forever living in the future instead of trying to catch the train of what's already selling. For some people, they start getting sales consistently after 200 listings and for others its closer to 500-1000. I didn't follow this advice at first so I was in that second group personally.

    How long did it take to get your Etsy store back? I’ve set up my own printify/Etsy store, it was suspended after my first sale, then a few days later I got it back, then they suspended it again for no reason and I’ve answered security questions again and they’re ignoring me now. It’s been 9 days and they no longer reply to me. Spent so long putting it all together too. I have over 100 designs on printify. Etsy are a nightmare to deal with. I’m in the UK I’m thinking trading standards complaint? They’ve debited all my Etsy fees but and allowing me in my account 😕

  • @TheSabrinaBacungan
    @TheSabrinaBacungan Před 2 lety +4

    When you had about 800 listings, does that translate to 800 designs? Or do you still do what Jarren suggested and are doing 1 colorful more intricate design and 1 simple one as 2 separate designs?

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Před 2 lety +4

      HI Sabrina! I do what Jarran teaches and make different versions of designs as well, I didn't do that at first though because I was starting as his videos were coming out so that was probably 600 unique designs but its hard to say for sure looking back on it after all this time.
      Definitely recommend doing that and then making even more for each one as they start selling! There is always going to be a lot of competition, better to have it be against yourself than someone else!

    How do you price your items? It seems like the competition has super low prices and includes shipping but the products on Printful, Printify, etc. are high when you calculate shipping!
