  • @Leowulfs
    @Leowulfs Před 8 lety +3

    To replicate the table being made in the video, one would need four tools, not three. A table saw is needed to remove the rounded edges of the 2 x 6 boards unless you want to make a perfectly straight, six to eight foot cut with a circular saw (good luck lol, you'll need it, a lot of it). Or unless you want a not-so-pretty table with rounded boards and not-so-straight rectangular legs.
    Good news though viewers: Home Depot charges fifty cents per cut on their huge, industrial grade table saw. So just ask them to cut the boards to 5" in width (as mentioned in the provided plans) and to remove the square edges. At two cuts per board for both of the sides, this won't be very expensive. If you don't have a miter or circular saw they can even cut it width wise for you but for most, having a miter saw is much easier than having a table saw due to the larger size and space needed to run boards.
    Also, call in advance to make sure your Home Depot has said table saw. The vast, vast majority do, but some don't. Anyways this is a great plan.

I've kept to smaller projects like the shelves and I made a headboard for my daughter's bed. Love using my Kreg Jig! It's so easy my 2 yr old and 7 yr old helped me with the building of the headboard. They loved taking turns drilling the pilot holes and then attaching the boards together. It was a fun easy project to do with them. My daughter( 7 yr old) is ready to build some more with me! I'm definitely going to build this table and have her help me. Maybe make it slightly shorter since there's just the 3 of us. Any chance you ladies have bench plans that would go well with this table?

    The first instruction on the downloadable plans is to rip the 2x6 boards down to 2x5, this really should be listed as a step and add a table saw to the list of necessary tools as to not mislead. Luckily we have a table saw so it should be fine, just hate for someone else to miss that instruction before they go and buy everything from their hardware store.

    • @shanty2chic
      @shanty2chic  Před 4 lety +1

      8randi if you read the supply list (cover sheet) it says 2x6 ripped to 5”. We also mention that we did that at the top of the video and it’s the first step we mention in the how-to on our site where you download the plans.

    • @8randi
      @8randi Před 4 lety

      @@shanty2chic I know it says 2x6 ripped to 2x5 on the cover sheet of the downloadable plans, that's what I said in my original comment. It's also true it says it in the how-to on your site.
      However, it's not true that you state it "at the top of the video" ...actually, you refer to them as 2x6 boards the entire video. Since they are in fact in need of ripping to 2x5 it means people will also need a table saw, as well as either a plainer or sander to get the boards smooth for before painting/staining.
      I get that "you only need 3 things" sounds great and all but it's simply not true. I still love the table and the plan, we are 90% complete with ours right now actually and loving it! Sorry, I just really don't want a beginner to watch this video and try to attempt this without fully reading the downloadable plans ya know.

    • @shanty2chic
      @shanty2chic  Před 4 lety

      8randi we actually say for the exact measurements of the boards refer to our printable plans. The videos are meant for inspiration. We also don’t show every cut being made - because that’s boring - but you got that info from the free plans. We do our best to share the most detail that we can in our FREE plans. Ripping edges is always optional (as mentioned in this post on our site - with a tip to make your table 4” wider) so a table saw is not needed to build this table unless you want ripped edges.

      I would think dowel join is stronger than pocket hole.
      Professionals prefer dowel over p.h.

    First time on your channel girls, also a new subscriber 👍🏼 one question will the wood split sooner or later? I've heard so many people say "it will split blah blah blah" I'm hesitant about making the table. Plz reply @shanty2chic

      Sonia Deleon thank you! Happy to have you! It can but we haven't had that problem with any of our pieces and we have been building for 9 years. Moisture content of the lumber and your location affect that!

    Why do you put the pocket holes on the outside of the legs?

    Do you have a plan or video for the matching bench for this table that shown on your page?

    Do your prices exclude the price of wood? Because at my home depot, it costs $4.32 per 2x6x8 pieces. That's already over $50... Then wood glue, screws and paint on top of it. Or do you exclude the others assuming we already have those supplies? Either way, it's worth the price and I can't wait to build it - I'm just curious. Thanks for this, you girls seriously inspire me. I'm desperately trying to sell my really nice house in a less than desirable neighborhood. Hopefully some of these projects will help people love the interior more than a few "poor" looking houses that surround me.

      Danielle V. Thank you so much! We get that question lots! First, lumber prices vary from region to region. Our are about $4 per board but after tax it makes it about $54. We only count lumber prices because we just use a little bit of stain etc. It's hard to give an accurate cost for everyone because prices vary so much but we included everything on the supply lists so that you can estimate the cost in your area before building. Hope this helps and good luck selling ❤️

    Are bread board ends necessary? Do they ever break off while trying to move the table around?

      Yes a bread board is much more then "just for looks" it keeps your lateral boards in place to prevent warping or cupping.
