First off, Chris Ryan, you are a former SAS warrior, so my hat off to you as being one of the true "elite" soldiers of the world and a former member of what most western Tier 1 units have based themselves on, notably our SFOD-D which Col. Beckwith brought back with him from his stint with your squadrons. That being said; I used to teach Concealed Carry/License to Carry classes and a large portion of the instruction, besides deescalation of situations, is when and where you can carry. One of the places that you CANNOT carry is a bar or any type establishment that derives more than 50% of their revenue from alcohol consumed on the premises. It is called the 51% rule. If those person that you said were in the bar were actually carrying concealed or otherwise, they can and would have their licenses suspended or revoked for having their weapons on them if caught. 99.99999% of the persons licensed to carry are very law abiding citizens, whom believe in their God given right to self protection, and have been thoroughly vetted with background checks from applicants city police, county sheriffs, state dps, federal ( FBI/U.S. Marshall's Service ), and Interpol. Granted, you can and will have persons fall through the cracks, but bunching every law abiding person with a few knuckleheads is disingenuous at best.
By the way, our 2nd Amendment was not enshrined in our constitution so that we could have a weapon to hunt with, but because one of the first things you Brits tried to do back in the 1770s was to confiscate and criminalize the colonies means to fight back against you and the oppressive crown, to take our weapons. That is why we have our 2nd, to give us the means to defend ourselves from the tyranny of government, not just to be able to put venison on the dining room table.....

      Gun violence is a sticky subject because;
      1. Democrats and their ilk like to include suicide by firearms in with their violent gun crimes numbers. That is very misleading because if a person wants to kill themselves, they will, with or without a firearm. Suicide counts for 60%of all gun deaths in the U.S.
      2. 37% of gun deaths account for actual murder, but those numbers also include other factors. Of that number, 24% were gang or drug related murders, which in essence is just criminals killing other criminals, ( good riddance ). The other 6% are crimes committed against persons with the use of a firearm, i.e. robbery, self defense against perpetrators of crimes, etc.
      3. The remaining 3%fall into other categories like police involved shootings, accidental firearm deaths, etc.
In hindsight, the average law abiding gun owner is in no way, shape or form responsible for the gun violence in the U.S. Most are people killing themselves, and vast majority of what's left is criminals, drug dealers, gang etc. shooting each other. If they want to kill each other, they will, with or without guns.....

I obviously respect what he has done(is)But there have been many former SAS men who have(q)the veracity of his&Andy Mcnabs Acc of what went on IRAQ with that SAS troop.
One of their former team,a New Zealander who uses the alias Mike Coborn also has a more honest, and less heroic book out called"Soldier 5",(which the Brit Ministery of Defence has just spent 5 yrs attempting to ban)but their books received help!.
And as for talking about Guns in Florida, there are certain situations in different States the U.S where a Pistol or Shotgun is not fit for purpose..
And as for seeing someone at a bar with a concealed Pistol(well i'v lived here 20yrs&I 'v seen plenty of Pistols carried in a holster(like a Cop or Security guard might do)because certain States like Arizona,New Mexico?and Nevada have the "Open carry Law "which allows one to do just that.
But coming from London,in general i feel alot safer here,u just have to be sensible and vigilant..And Chris Ryan has no business(SAS Man or no)dissing this Country(which he was doing carefully and subtly)Him, ike me are really only guests(even though i am a Law abiding Citizen who supports the 2nd Amendment)in this country...

His name is Colin Armstrong, and "Andy McNab" is actually Steven Billy Mitchell - and they used their dead colleague as a scapegoat for bad command decisions. Among other sources I recommend you read Mike Coburn's later book "Soldier Five" which exposes some of their lies - one being that they claim to have killed hundreds of Iraqi soldiers and destroyed tanks and armoured vehicles while surrounded.. which is pure BS, they got into a very small firefight and promptly ditched their bergens and ran. Mitchell didn't read the GPS properly and had them wandering, unnecessarily, for days in blizzards causing the death of Vince. They made it seem in their books like Vince was just not strong enough and they went out of their way to keep trying to drag him along - in reality it seems they were just out of it and made bad decisions and didn't keep an eye on their patrol so they got quickly separated due to incompetence. Oh and Coburn gives the profits from his book to the family of Vince Phillips, unlike Armstrong and Mitchell who are merely profiteering.

He didn't lead the mission, that was Andy McNab the patrol leader in command. They made the wrong call as a team really, didn't take vehicles, and another team pulled out completely when they saw the terrain. Also a lot of bad luck, as it was the coldest winter in that region in a very long time, and they were not carrying cold weather gear. A couple of the team were killed or died of exposure and never made it back. The teams operate as a bit of a Chinese parliament, as everyone gets a say, so you can't lay all the blame on McNab either.

You can't expect much from CZcams, where random people can mouth off behind their keyboards, with various motives. Chris and other's actually lived it. The big controversy was more about the B20 book, as they fought the release (of a somewhat fanciful tale) and it was released to print despite the SAS wishes. Then a series of follow-up books correcting the narrative, and other books. All of it causing a bit of bad blood and pain to families etc. The SAS have people sign a new contract I believe that restricts what they can have published (presumably within a certain time-frame) and must be reviewed throughly first. So the books were an anomaly really, and the same type of things won't be seen again in future.

Further in the UK we have armed Police units who are now carrying Assault Rifles H&K G36 in think ( the one with the large carry handle, looks like the French FAMAS). These are chambered in 5.56x 45 that's effective out to 500m in a country where no one has a gun. You've got me started.... again look to the UK and the behaviour of the "political classes" doing whatever they want however they want. The point is that criminals will always get guns, and denying ordinary, law abiding citizens gun ownership, doesn't alter the number of shootings, because law abinding gun owners don't generally murder people and, - with the exception of Dunblane - never did. The British Olympic shooting team now has to practice in France! Something most Americans, and others from the white Commwealth, don't understand is that Britain has always been a pretty rough place in all manner of violence short of actual death. You're much more likely to be engaged in a fist fight in the UK than small toiwn America for instance. If it wasn't for the density of population in the UK and the consequent immediacy of first world medical services the actual murder rate would be in the low thousands instead of aroun 700 annualy.

Mr. Ryan is apparently suggesting that Americans have too much freedom. He is factually incorrect when he states that Americans can have any weapon they wish. There are very severe restrictions on items (fully automatic/assault weapons, short barreled rifles and suppressors) which fall under the national firearms act. It's especially odd that he apparently decries American's access to military style semi-auto firearms while also describing an incident in which his own daughter was threatened but had no access to the most effective tools to protect herself against those who would seek to harm her.
I respect Mr. Ryans service, but he seem to have the same lack of understanding about the 2nd amendment that most non-Americans have. It is not about hunting or even self-defense. Our entire constitution is written to ensure that the ultimate power rests with the citizenry, not the government. The idea that only agents of the government (ie the police and military) should have access to the most effective weapons is contrary to this most fundamental premise.

You probably misunderstood him. I feel like he was pointing out the contradictions in gun control ie. self defense vs mishandling and accidents. He said he was comfortable around guns. But he never said that Americans have too much freedom.

Why do people talk abiut things they do not know about.
Assault rifles, being select fire, are already heavily regulated in the US. The relatively few in the hands of collectors sell for huge amounts of money and I can't recall a situation where a legally owned select fire weapon was used to wrongfully kill or injure another person. I am sure it has happened, but the legality of assault rifle is a non issue.
If like the media these days he means so called "assault weapons" when he says noone needs go own an assault rifle. My response would be a simple question.
Which would you pick to assault or defend a building or home. A pistol or a semi auto AR15 pattern rifle?
I know which I would choose.
To shoot a pistol with any accuracy over distances greater than 10 or 20 yards requires a ridiculous amount of practice.

some 11,000 people in the US killed in firearm assaults each year.what about their 'constitutional rights? The constitution was written for a different time and a different people

So how do you feel today about yesterday's school shooting? Yet another 17 lives needlessly lost because a guy with mental illness can obtain a semi automatic weapon.
When your constitution was written by the founding fathers you guys basically had muskets. Now you have weapons, like the AR, that are absolutely unnecessary but it seems that every madman uses them.
And as I watch from the UK, the conversation isn't around "should we ban all of these weapons?". It's "should be even check people to buy them?
Fucking insane. Your country is in tatters. Lost. Zero moral authority.

and another school shooting..RIP to all who died..see the gun argument can round and round all day with same for and against for years and will be for years...but the problem is people, not the gun...think it is too late for the US to change the gun culture there, the gun is always been in the US and if they want it so be it..they will say their right etc etc but it is a culture too, like no other country has that type of access to weapons like the US does or so relaxed around guns,TV shows etc etc about them...here only hunters or sport shooters have them and it is so hard to get even a licence for small 22 for target shooting people do not even bother and give up..the rules are very very strict and are the laws, very little gun crime here, there is but criminals killing each other..maybe 5 gun killings a year or so in criminal circles, mostly gang stuff but the ordinary guy never hear of gun murders or crime,I have just a Remington shotgun that my dad owned for clay pigeons, use it maybe twice a year,I get bored of it after hour shooting...but to be honest I am kinda glad I have it all the same.. if shit did hit the fan and if guy breaks in here, that is what he will be greeted with.

The M4A1 is a derivative of the M16 which is a derivative of the Armalite AR-15. M4A1s are used by the military while AR15s are used by civilians. So for all you haters they effectively are the same.
