not necessarily. I'm swiss and didnt have to. so it is technically mandatory but there are many ways to avoid it
As an anti-war song, its symbolism has to be interpreted contextually - it ends abrupty like a life taken in war, the petals representing fallen soldiers.
Yes, true. The ending should leave you a bit shocked or surprised so that you have some time to think about the content. I think it's very well done from a dramaturgical point of view.
Does Forrer imply that Russians don't wan't to be soldiers? In fact, Russians have always slaughtered other nations. Even current generation of Russians has committed genocide of Lithuanians, Chechens, Georgians, Syrians, Ukrainians, etc etc. Russians have always been primitive lazy aggressive cannibals. For Russia, there has always been only 2 sources of income - war and natural resources. Killing people in other countries is a routine for them. They are body bags bacause they have rushed to other country to kill, rape, torture, loot. It was their choice. They have always been doing this. Nothing new for them. What about neutrality, Switzerland? Looking for excuses to approve the genocide committed by poor good Russian fascists? Well, Swiss "neutrality" is quite special as we know from history... Hypocrisy as it is.
He is very young about 21, it is an anti war song, you might think he is too young to sing such a song but many young men are forced to go to war at his age. I like it and I think he has a great voice.
It's not an anti war song. He is trying to find excuses for poor good Russian fascists who always slaughter other nations. If they don't want to be soldiers, then why have hundreds of thousands of Russians rushed to other country to torture, rape, kill and loot? Why are they dissecting Ukrainians alive? Why are they burning Ukrainians alive? Maybe because they are primitive aggressive cannibals who enjoy violence? Even current generation of Russians has committed genocide of Lithuanians, Chechens, Georgians, Syrians, Ukrainians etc. They committed the same atrocities there. They never admitted, they never regretted. They haven't been taken to account for all atrocities. And the West is now looking for excuses. "Poor good Russian boys don't want to be soldiers". Typical Western hypocrisy. But it's not surprising to hear this from Switzerland that has successful experience of collaboration with German fascists. Special Swiss "neutrality".

So I love this song. Live vocals of Remo are absolutely incredible - saw him in Amsterdam and Madrid, and especially in Madrid he was one of the few who could deal with in-ear audio issues. I fell completely for the song when I heard it in Madrid.
I do see what you mean about the end - and this was problematic in the pre-parties because everyone thought the first 'playing with water guns' was the end of the song and started cheering, and then he had to wait to do the second bit while everyone was cheering. I see that as the only potential problem in the live performance.
Aside from that, this skyrocketed up my rankings when I heard it live. Already it was somewhere in the low teens, but live it's with Spain on a par for me now (Spain was much lower before I heard it live) in around 5/6th position.
Finally, Remo is such a nice guy as well - I brought a Swiss flag to Amsterdam because there were none in Madrid he could see, and he came out to meet us after the show and came up and gave me a huge hug - 'You deserve such a big hug, thank you'. He saw the flag from the stage and he saw the support, the energy from the crowd - it was special. I want him to do so well. It's not Switzerland '21 quality but I do think it'll do better than last year's entry. And Remo is only 21 or 22! Crazy his vocals for that age. Such maturity. Love this guy and agree with everything pretty much you've said about the song yourself.

I love this so so much!!! Such great vocals. A great message. The way I see it, this is about playing with waterguns when we are kids, but then we grow up and things get serious, no waterguns anymore, just the real deal, war is a reality and we do not want to be soldiers, do not want to play with real guns, we do not want to end up in body bags. It is an anti-war anthem I think. I always get goosebumps.
The staging looks promising. The music itself is so well produced 👌

In Switzerland men are forced to go to the millitary when they are young men. This song is about not wanting to do that anymore, especially when there’s war right know because he’s afraid he’s going to have to go to real war

While i think it is important that there are blind reactions about songs to hear what people think about a song when they hear it for the first time, sometimes it's also important to know some background information. For this song during our current times it's really important to know that thsi was written 1-2 years ago, before the war in Ukraine, just to silence any presumptions about this song being just another moralic sympathy seeking song about the war in Ukraine. Of course it turned out to be very much about that war but it was meant to mean something much more general (in Switzerland, almost every male has to go to the army around Remo's age. While war is not much of a threataning reality for Switzerland, the last year has shown us that we shouldn't be too sure and military training can become much more than just a mandatory routine training really fast) than that.
What I'm trying to say is that this is a song where it's very much important to know some background information before making statements about the lyrics.

It's not supposed to end all neatly and comfortable. The abrupt ending is symbolic of lives being lost to war. You can't just tell a bullet to hang on, let me just sing this chorus one last time first...
I understood this song completely the first time I blindly listened to it and had always been my number one choice to win.

Also, a lot of the songs seemed to finish prematurely this year, I feel like everyone panics and then cut the songs short. It's jarring
I like the song and the singer. Its just a bit hard to listen to a man from Switzerland singing about not wanting to go to war.
