- A brand new Wendy's has opened in Whitby North Yorkshire, much to the annoyance of many local people. As I had never tired a Wendy's meal before or been inside one of their franchise, I thought I would try something from their breakfast menu, than, after a coastal walk, I would come back and try their lunch menu, to see what all the fuss was about - I was shocked at what I found out!

I made the mistake of going into a Wendy's when I was in Detroit for work. Worst burger I ever had, one chain crossed off the list! Thanks for taking the hit for us on this one.

We went to Whitby last week and I was quite shocked to see a Wendy's there. Looks out of place considering the history of the place. Had fish and chips in one of the many restaurants. Great review there. You got more guts than me having both breakfast and lunch fast food!

Hi Alan! Being in such a quaint area, Wendy’s does seem to be a bit out of place at that location. Don & I haven’t been to Wendy’s in years, and it does seem whenever we do go out anywhere for a meal, that there is way too much salt on the foods. We don’t revisit those places. I found it interesting to hear your view on it. Being that we are across the pond, I’m always interested in the differences in foods, etc. Thanks again! ~ Kat (in the North)
Totally agree Kat, there is far too much salt in our food today, which is no good for my high blood pressure but this was on another level on those chips. To be fair the burger was the best I have ever eaten, so if I go it again it will be a burger only. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Yes and I forgot my gel as well, so God knows how many peoples fingers was in my gob - yuk! My first ever visit to any Wendy's, so totally open minded but man those chips were salty, far too much for me but if you like a burger, that was the best I have ever had. I don't eat that much hamburgers in fast food chains nowadays. They don't taste good at all after my surgery and change of diet.
But I remember one place in Whitby, that was a more "old fashioned American Hamburger Bar", but not sure they are still there. Those hamburgers were awesome and looked tasty too! They were on same side as this one. But a bit up. We passed it on the way from hotel we stayed at.

Oh I have never heard of Emma's Dinner before but will have to have a look nice time we go to Whitby. Th saving grace was the burger I got at Wendy's that was really nice and maybe the best I have ever had a but the rest was a bit of a disappointment to be honest. Like any food establishment you typically know where to go and what to order at each. In an area like where you are you are going to go for the local establishments as your first choice. However, these chain restaurants typically have pretty affordable pricing here in the USA. On road trips for me, I like seeing a Wendy's show up because I know I'm not going to break the bank and I already know what I'm going to order. I have not tried any of the items that you tried and probably would not. From the looks of what you had it appears that the cook that day did not know what he was doing. Around here, I'm sure what you ordered would have been much better. I eat at Wendy's for lunch nearly once every week but I'm very picky on what I order. I never order breakfast items. for lunch or dinner, I only order either the Cob Salad with Caesar dressing or the I get the Baconator, nothing else! I don't get the fires and drink with it either because I don't really care for their fries. Nice review and way to give it a try. Take care and have a great day.

Hats off to you for even trying this sort of 'food'! Back in the 80s they used to have salad bars that did suffer from my visits when I was a bit tipsy!
Now something I have that often maybe 2 or 3 times a year but as it has just opened in Whitby and I was in town, too good of an opportunity to miss. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

I have never tried their food, I don't think we even have their chain of restaurants in Croatia. I have to admit that I rarely eat fast food, but sometimes you need to eat a good hamburger 🍔 😀 Great review Alan 👍

I would tend to agree with the locals of Whitby, as Wendy's would really seem out of place and character. The food all does look the same as here. In the past, I did ask for the fries without salt. These fast food establishments I find are really getting quite expensive and would rather just walk in to a place where I can talk to a real person and see what can be done for me with being gluten free. Those screens are death to me...if that is the only option, I'd be heading the other way pretty quickly. I'm with you on them not lasting too long...if I find myself in a place like Whitby, I'm there for a local experience.
Hit the nail on the head, Whitby is famous for its fish n chips and there are some amazing food options there, so for me it will struggle but time will tell. I hate salty foo and that was another salt level, so not for me or Mrs Metalman as she is gluten free too. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

It feel's so empty ..... 5:25 Get a root beer ....... 9:01 Number 2 combo with everything, extra pickle, poutine and root beer .... 13:20 That's why I substitute the fries for poutine .......... 14:45 So much for automation ... 16:15 Like I said .... the best burgers far superior to the competition ..... You just need to know what to order on the side.

We don't have Wendy's Burger restaurants in DK, though we have one Wendy's pit in Herning in Jylland It's about 8 hours with trains from this town I'm living in.
But again, one of the reasons for that we don't have a Wendy restaurants here are that they have been talking about that they are using to much salt in their food and we have rules here, in this country (EU rules must be observed) about how much salt that would be allowed to be in the meat and potatoes chips (generally all kind of food)!
So there's one of the biggest reasons for not having a Wendy's, the other one is that we already have a lots of fast foods restaurants.. McDonald's /Burger King / Sunset B / Pizza restaurants in 1000/Rib steaks house / Chinese foods /Mexicans foods / and many more..!

Alan, I was surprised to see the place so empty in the morning. We have Wendy's here, and it's not too spectacular. In my opinion, their dinner menu is better than breakfast. The veggies in the burger are nice.
I actually quite like their chilli if they have it there.
I hope the other places survive, though, and Wendy's doesn't force the locals out. Sometimes, the big companies can run the little independents out of town even with low quality.
Definitely a weird layout with all those stairs.
You got that right, when I was walking down the stairs, a woman was walking up with a tray, I had to flatten myself up against the walk to let her past! The other food outlets will survive, especially the fish n chip places as they are really famous and people come from miles away just for them. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

So we have Wendy's all over Las Vegas. They used to be a lot better but went downhill over the years. The service got really bad, and their phone app sucks! The only thing food wise.I really like there are the chicken nuggets and the chili. Your frosty actually had sauce and toppings, which we don't have out here. Out here, we just have chocolate Frosty flavor and nothing else! It's pretty boring. This was an interesting video for me, and I appreciate you sharing your opinion.

Never thought much of Wendy's If I had to choose a fast food burger place it would be a Burger King... But none of them are anything more that food and not anything to write home about. One thing about American fast food, always salty.

Had Wendy's years ago in Leeds and it was good.l think the younger visitors and locals will love the place.You can't just pig out on fish and chips,some of which are crap.The big chains that are in Whitby seem to be doing well so not everyone wants little, independent shops, cafes etc.Interesting review 👍.

We visited this outlet last weekend - wasn’t impressed. The restaurant was filthy, the staff was rude and the worst burger we’ve ever had. We’ve visited all the ones in Hull and never had a bad experience. The Whitby one has to seriously up their game if they want to stay in the town

Oh, that's very different to what I was expecting.
But saying that, the last time I was in a Wendy's was over 20 years ago in the States. The Vegas one was an experience to behold - some of the most Pd off waitresses ever and a bit of a dive - absolute class.
But, if this is what a Wendy's is like now... Just another burger chain... Don't think I'll bother (do they do vegetarian stuff there?).

Vegas, yes, do it. I have a feeling the Vegas I experienced 20+ years ago has changed, but so have I. As has Wendy's, probably... If I were to go again I'd immerse myself in Fear And Loathing (within reason, obviously).

However, going to Whitby, there should be only one thing on the menu in Whitby, and it's not going to be a burger. Fish & Chips every time for me.

We haven’t been to Wendy’s in a long time. I always did like their burgers. I really don’t like McDonald’s at least not the ones I’ve been to. But I agree that everyone uses way too much salt on the food. I would rather have them give you packets of salt and let us put on how much we want. I would definitely walk past Wendy’s to get a fish and chips. Stay safe my friend 👍👍

I remember one time I hadn’t ate all day and it was late so I decided to grab something quick and went through Wendy’s drive through. It was absolutely delicious and I liked the grilled flavor. I now occasionally have a burger from one of their many locations… when I comes to fast food or franchises it always depends on the management but to each his own 👍

Nice review!👌. We have only ever been to a Wendys in the states when we were kids, to be honest we didn't realise the chain had come over to the UK! Doesn't look the best though. Pete does love a good burger, so maybe that would sway us. But i think we would always lean towards the good old fish and chips at the seaside for a naughty treat 😋.

Yes, they had only been open for 7 days but for me it was the wrong venue, far too small downstairs and if the lift is not working, having to walk up those steps, which are very narrow and very steep. I guess time will tell if they succeed or not but I very much doubt it. Real good of you to stop by, cheers Alan
Yes, there was a lot of local opposition as Whitby has it's own charm, especially with the unique independent shops, once one chain gets in, usually more will follow :o(

The Metalman doesn't like music!! That had me laughing but I'm with you on that, I hate noise being pumped out and you have to shout to be heard. We don't do any fast food at all, except it's the only option, it's all very bland, very salty, and not personal. Kids love these places and I'd be surprised if it doesn't do ok. Oldies like us aren't the target market. Your review was great, hands on ( and mouth!!) And you tried hard to be fair. 5 was generous!! The ice cream looked not great too, which is where McDonald's are very good. Nice one, Alan, you've definitely good a flair for this. Regards, Ashley
Not that type of music lol but man it was load, really in your face, not what you want if you want to eat and have a conversation. Alan, our local Wendy’s is not a good breakfast place. The burgers are average here too. We do go to enjoy a Frosty often. You need to video more of your restaurant meals. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best, I would rate our local Wendy’s at a 4. Thanks for sharing the video. Nice to have a midweek video to watch. Also, Whitby looks like a FANTASTIC place to visit.

Whitby isn't a unique place... it's a typical narrow minded, closed off deprived sea side town.... the locals have no grasp of a world outside of Whitby
To be honest, it is always packed when we go there, which compared to so many other seaside towns is good to see but regarding the new Wendy's there, time will tell if it wins over the locals. Appreciate you watching, cheers Alan

Not really a fan of Wendy’s myself! We have them here but I’m not a fast food or any chain fan! Give me real food I say! None of this chain restaurant 😂 the nerve to ask people to walk up 3 flights of stairs with a tray! No way!

Forced loud music, too much salt, with the awful touch screen do you get the option to opt out of salt? The food apart from the burger looked pants. It’s a huge no from me, will not be visiting them, it looks like an eye sore too. Surprised it was allowed. You’ve not been harsh at all, very gracious I thought considering how dreadful it was. Thanks for your concern lol and to be fair to Wendy's, their burger was not too bad at all but man, the rest was so salty, really on another level and far too salty for me. The venue is is a great spot but next time we are back in Whitby (we live just over an hour away) I will be back to our favourite fish n chip shop I think. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan

Whitby can be chaotic it is not restricted to Wendy's foyer, shame your title is clickbait when the burger was good quality.
The burger was very good and the only redeeming factor. I did say at the start that I would be reviewing the food but also the suitability of the building, which imo was not appropriate. Burger apart, the food was a major disappointment, dry and so salty, never tasted anything so salty before. The lift was not working when I was there, so you had to walk up the steep and very narrow stairs with a tray of food in your hands and keep your fingers crossed you did not meet someone coming downstairs. I just cannot see it doing well at Whitby. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, cheers Alan

To be fair the burger was the best I have ever had but man the rest was a let down and those chips were another level of salt, I was drinking water all night when I got home trying to quench my thirst. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
