@@Aik642 it's actually a disease. Not all diseases have cures, btw. It's incredibly rare and doctors have just found out about this, so they can't make a cure yet.
I have ZERO CLue just WHAT is going on with Strep. throat== my father would not let me go to the doctor for mine (it would all work out in the end). After two weeks,, I could eat nothing (beCause the pain was so bad). My big brother was diagnosed with PANDAS about 2 years ago. It was really scary, he acted like a different person. Luckily he’s doing so much better now! This really breaks my heart, I hope these kids get better soon :)

@@Lamkins._. I think it’ll always stay with you, but it eventually it could get to a point where it’s barely even there. That’s what happened to my brother, at first it was really bad, but now, it barely effects his day to day life :)

This blows my mind. When I was three I got strep which turned to Scarlett fever, and I was hospitalized. My parents ALWAYS said, this was when I changed. I was this super shy, quiet, sweet girl who suddenly became riddled with anxiety, OCD, Misophonia, Trichotillomania, and anger issues. Like..over night almost. I now think it has something to do with this.
Did you have it checked? How is it going?
I got PANDAS a few years ago and when I was going through diagnoses they thought it could have been Scarlett fever so I do think it definitely could be connected

@@Ronin.Samurai It used to be called a petit mal seizure. You get an impairment of consciousness without going into full on convulsions and unlike sleep paralysis, it can happen any time of the day.

I think if this is going to happen, it would happen the first or second time . Seems to be immune related and thus far, your body has tolerated it well . I understand your fear , this is a terrifying thing to occur. Maybe discuss with your doctor next time and ask them if this is something that would happen immediately with first or second time or if it still could happen 20 strep throat infections later. Seems since it is immune related and only in those that have this type of immune system response and yours is normal. Hopefully your doctor can answer this and ease your fears.

I might got strep when I was a kid. I don’t remember anything but I only remember was having like psychological stuff or whatever.
I hear it happens to younger children. I've never gotten strep before so I'm not entirely sure.
As someone with PANDAS myself, I'm finally glad my Condition is getting the awareness it finally deserves.
I got it very shortly after my 11th birthday. My entire personality right down to my interests was reversed. A once loud, happy, and sporty child turned into a quiet, moody, anxious almost overnight. My permanent smile was replaced by a permanent death glare. I don't think I screamed as much as parker, but I'm pretty sure I cried a lot. It's caused me to spend the majority of my teenage years gradually recovering.
PANDAS caused me to get a condition called selective mutism, which means I am mute in certain situations. It developed a few months after I first got PANDAS. I became mute to everyone apart from my mother, even to people who first met me merely hours after my birth. When I was maybe 12 and a half I managed to speak to the rest of my immediate family for the first time, when I was almost 14 I managed to speak to members of my extended family (ironically at my grandfather's funeral). When I was 14 I spoke to strangers on a discord VC for the first time, and also managed to speak to a teacher for the first time. A month before my 15th birthday I spoke to a kid my own age for the first time, which was the longest friendship I've had since I was 10 as it lasted just over a year. And then throughout my time of being 15 I gained 2 more friends who I spoke to verbally. That's all over now, I have no friends again. I'm 16 and I still have it. Loneliness has been the worst aspect of this condition. I had no friends for the first two years after getting PANDAS, and then between age 13-15 I had 5 friendships. Most of them lasted a few months and then sort of fizzled out of existence. Apart from one, but the guy was suicidal and very mentally troubled, hence I sort of took on his troubles as my own to try and help the him but that ended up making me incredibly depressed to the point of self-harming. Once selective mutism has been conquered, PANDAS will be over.
PANDAS also caused OCD, which came in the form of intrusive thoughts. The peak of my OCD was at age 13. My intrusive thoughts were always the same, gouging out my own eyes, snapping my neck, dislocating my jaw, and drowning myself in the bath. Along with paranoia, such as a constant fear of being watched by "demonic entities" in dark environments, and sometimes having to check the area outside of my room repeatedly up to 10-19 times. I exclusively have showers these days. No one in my family apart from me knows the true reason why. I may have gotten close to killing myself in the bath once. My intrusive thoughts about drowning myself in the bath suddenly attacked, so I started sticking up head under the water repeatedly. I was simloutuaniously trying to make myself pass out while also trying to keep myself awake at the same time. I got out of the bath after a few minutes and cried. I don't think it was a suicide attempt, because all I did was think about drowning myself and stick my head repeatedly under the water. Suicide was not my intention. However, it could have ended badly so I'm glad I got out.
I remember watching the movie 71, great movie about troubles in Ireland but all I could think about was snapping my own neck. Sort of ruined the experience to be honest. Violent movies often acted as a trigger to cause my intrusive thoughts.
These days, my intrusive thoughts are quite mild. They mostly come in the form of self-humiliation. For example, what if in the middle of class I just screamed, or got up danced, striped nude, etc. Other times when I am near a girl I'll think about the fact that if I touched a certain area I could get into a lot of legal trouble for Sexual harassment, and yet my hand is so close and it would be so easy to utterly ruin my life by just reaching slightly to my right. Not that disturbing but just irritating.
Around age 11-12 it caused many symptoms similar to autism. I was falsely diagnosed with autism a few months after getting PANDAS, no one knew what was going on, not even me. After this my "autism" worsened. Extreme noise sensitivity to the point of wearing ear protection almost constantly, even the sound of the coffee machine was too loud for me. I remember having autistic meltdowns a lot, and crying. Sort of similar to Parker in the video above.
It was maybe after a year I first got the condition that I was diagnosed. We went to so many useless therapists who just misdiagnosed it as autism or anxiety due to the condition being so incredibly rare. My entire world changed overnight and no matter how much they asked why, or what's going I couldn't answer. But that's not even mentoining severe anxiety, and join pains every day. Pandas fucking sucks bro.
Can it be cured or “fixed”?
@@zixzizia1066 Overtime, if is possible to get over it through tons upon tons of therapists, supplements, and other things. I've had it for about 5 years now. Google says the average is 5-6 months but that's utter bullshit. Pandas takes years to get over.

One of my friends was diagnosed with PANDAS in 9th grade. I was there for his first incident. We were walking across the campus and he fell over randomly. He laughed it off but when he tried to stand up he passed out and had a seizure. I got help for him and he was gone for about a week. When he came back, he suffered from major ticks and stuttering. Most of his friends ghosted him after that.

As long as ur over the “mature age” u will be fine because ur immune system is already built up. Usually kids that go through this get better 95% do fast! Kids get it because they have baby immune systems
You will not get this unless you are a young child. You should be fine as an adult.

For anyone that might be scared of getting this, think about this.
Since this is an immune system thing, the body should react in the same way to strep throat each time you get it. This means, if you had strep once and your body reacted normally, then you shouldn't get PANDAS the next time you get it.

Idk if anyone is going to see this, but I got diagnosed with a pretty severe case of PANDAS in 2011. I’m 20 now. I’m in college, I’m currently renting my first house, and generally thriving as much as one can in a global pandemic. To anyone who is currently suffering/has a loved one suffering from PANDAS I promise there’s a light at the end. It may not seem possible right now, but I promise you will be you again. Your loved one/child will once again be someone you recognize. If anyone is curious about PANDAS I’m happy to answer whatever questions you have!
As a Type 1 Diabetic I have also have an autoimmune disease that is NEVER going away. So I will always have to take insulin and monitor my blood sugar. Does constant treatment apply to you too? How do you go about treatment? Will you always need that treatment? What are the medications like? I know these are a lot of questions sorry, I’m just really curious☺️

@@sinahaase9923 no offense taken at all that’s a super valid question! PANDAS is something a lot of people grow out of after puberty. I didn’t, but it has become a lot easier to manage. Essentially what happens during a PANDAS flare is an autoimmune reaction triggered by a strep infection that causes brain inflammation. There are a ton of effective treatments for PANDAS now that essentially either reset your immune system and help prevent future strep infections or they target the brain inflammation itself. Prophylactic antibiotics are extremely effective in preventing strep infections and as long as you are proactive in treating flares you can significantly cut down the severity and in some cases more extreme treatments like ivig and certain chemotherapies can put people into extended or permanent remission. The only issue is that PANDAS treatments are often not covered by insurance and a lot of times treatment and even remission is simply not financially accessible to people with this disease. This was a very cursory explanation and I’d highly recommend you check out the SBSK CZcams channel’s episode on PANDAS or at least check out the comment section of the video. A lot of adults with PANDAS have commented on it and there are plenty of explanations and experiences that you can read about there.

These are such loving parents, my heart goes out to them.
My son struggled with the same seemingly instant onset of personality change at 5. It was terrible and he couldn’t function normally at home or school. We only found out about what it may have been years latter. He is an amazing high functioning adult now. He went from a happy active child to obsessively compulsive. He could shut doors and was in constant fear of physical actions harming others. For example he flushed a toilet at his school and obsessed the whole weekend that he had flooded his school. He poked a shovel in a leaf pile and was convinced he had killed his neighbor friend. He could shut doors for fear he would chop someone’s hand off. His kindergarten teach thought he was just being defiant when before this he was our most compliant child. He left school to be home schooled in kindergarten but was able to return in 3rd grade. It hard to imagine this strong young man ever went through that nightmare. Hope this helps someone else

@@teepicgamer73 No its not. Flesh eating bacteria is Aeromonas hydrophila. The throat bacteria is Streptococcus pyogenes. Different strain entirely. Also flesh eating does not cross the brain barrier. Mostly eats at your skin.

I got my tonsils removed, resulting in my PANDAS symptoms going haywire, causing 4 years of hell for me.
I got PANDAS when I was younger and absolutely no doctors knew what was wrong. I got so many tests done and they had no idea what was wrong with me, it felt terrible. Luckily I'm blessed enough to only have OCD, tics and regression rather than anger outbursts and seizures.
It's really annoying watching ABC videos because I can never find the ones that go together. I never end up getting to see the end. It gets kinda ridiculous.

My son was diagnosed with PANDAS when he was around 12. Middle of July at church camp, he came home early for sudden onset of involuntary tics and head shaking. First thing my amazing doctor asked, was if he's had strep lately. I didn’t think so, but wondered how that relates to these tics. Doc said streptococcus can lie dormant in ur body for 7 years. If not treated with COMPLETE round of antibiotics, it can bring on PANDAS. Honestly, I think my kids gave up after 5 days of horse pills, so the virus was never killed! I was never informed how CRUCIAL this really was. My sons strep test came out positive, from a blood test. Has treated with antibiotics for 3 months. His head shaking turned into eye blinking. He can feel it coming on, usually stress or headaches bring them out. I thank God how lucky we were, to have an amazing doctor of 40-plus years. He just knew🙏🏻🙌
I have the same thing! Pandas! It has kinda gone away but I have had it right after I had strep. I saw this video and showed it to my parents and boom I got diagnosed. I have also been diagnosed with high functioning autism (Aspergers). I have also been diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety. I have tried to commit suicide before. I also have many tics. It has gotten better and if anyone has this please know you will get better and it will be ok. I though it wasn’t worth living. But nope it is. I love everyone and you will get better I promise.

The same thing happened to me as a was a kid when I was soon diagnosed with PANDAS after that my attitude had changed rapidly. I was very angry at everything and everyone. I would hit kick and bite people, as much as I am ashamed of it. Was arrested and sent to a mental hospital at the age of 10 and stayed there for 6 months. After that I was able to mostly control my anger issues.
This is so heartbreaking 😢 but the parents seem really empathic with their children. Wish I had empathic parents like that.

I have pandas, it’s not as bad as this boy tho, I problem got panda from chronic lime that I had when I was 6. The sucky thing is that I still have lime but that’s bedside the point, from pandas I have bad ticks and sometimes chronic pain, but yea having pandas sucks.

As somebody who has suffered from this hell since I was 7, I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I’m nowhere near the end of my journey, and I don’t intend on giving up along the way. However, I’d like all of you who are experiencing PANDAS or PANS to know that you CAN make it. We will make it. It’s hard to believe, I know, I have trouble believing it too sometimes. But then I wake up on a particularly good day and smile and just go “wow so this is what is feels like to be genuinely happy”. You are all worth it. You are strong. We stand together. 💞💜❤️💛

I had strep throat when I was their age but the doctor called back and said it was somthing else and I even took antibiotics for the “strep throat” I’m just glad god was with me and I didn’t develop this, for whoever sees this and is going though what these families go thru u are not alone god is sitting there with out though the whole thing he is inside of that child working him/her though it.

I developed it around the same age with similar symptoms. I really hope more research and such is done about it. I've considered advocating for it, but I will say I am thankful for all of you people who never had it. It very quickly can take things apart in your own life and it's more difficult to diagnose for sure since it has so many symptoms of other mental illnesses. Everyone take care of yourselves!
PANDAS. My daughter suffered with this over 20 years ago and I still can't believe it is being misdiagnosed. Any young child that has a sudden onset of psychiatric symptoms after a strep infection should be assumed to have PANDAS. Luckily, my daughter's symptoms abated slowly and she is leading a normal life. There is hope.

Lizy - It's treated with antibiotics (to prevent bacterial infections which can cause it to flare up), supplements (to reduce inflammation), and medical treatments (IVIG, an intravenous infusion of antibodies from healthy people, and plasma exchange, a procedure in which they remove your blood plasma and replace it with blood plasma from healthy people). It happened to me when I was 9 or 10, and I'm doing pretty good now! I found out what it was when my therapist told my mom about it after months of unsuccessful cognitive behavioral therapy. We then saw a doctor, and he ran blood tests for strep antibodies. My levels were through the roof at over 2000 - a normal level is under 200!
Expression - You mean when I have an episode? I didn't really have seizure-like episodes like Parker. When it was really bad, I'd get these episodes of extreme anger over the smallest of things and I'd only want to kick and punch and throw various objects, even though I knew my anger was irrational. It felt like my body was boiling from the inside out, and the anger could last for more than an hour. Then, when it eventually went away, I'd feel really depressed because I knew something was wrong with me but I didn't know how to fix it and I was upset with myself for putting my family through that. These episodes could happen multiple times a week, but as I started to improve with treatment, they moved further and further apart until they eventually disappeared completely. I haven't had one in a long time.
This is absolutely heartbreaking to witness, I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for the parents

When I was around 6 or 7 I cought the flu after coming home from a family trip to India. For maybe 2 months I would sleep walk everynight and cry uncontrollably and have anxiety attacks. I can't remember one time where I was sad or scared during the day, it was always at night. I must've been in a unconcious state. I haven't experienced anything like it since.

Yes, Parker, I agree with you, psychiatric wards are horrible, I went to one 2 years ago when I was 11, and it sucked. I was there for self destructive tendencies, and it didn't help me. Instead, it made me feel worse

Kala Hathorn You are SO right! I watched the rest of this episode on ABC. His mom's employer was able to get their insurance policy changed to cover the antibiotic treatment he's receiving. The parents are also trying to get a better procedure approved for him that's offered by a Dr. Latimer. But they said they are willing to sell all their stuff and their home and live in an apartment simply to pay for the treatment their son needs if they can't get insurance to cover it. I wish all parents were as good as these ones are. We definitely would live in a better world.

I had chronic strep as a child and currently have a diagnosis of OCD and GAD. PANDAS was actually something my doctors considered as a diagnosis because, although I always had symptoms, it became exponentially worse at age 8-10. A family friend who actually has PANDAS has it so much worse than I and it’s so important that we look at strep throat more closely and erase the stigma against these awful conditions

My family friend was diagnosed with PANDAS and it's no joke. He seems to be doing better after going to the Mayo Clinic and getting treatment. It was scary watching him change into a different kid.
I went to a school with a boy who had this. Our teacher set us down and told us what was going on. He was never bullied and he was treated well through elementary school. It’s so upsetting.

I feel so bad for him. I have PANS too, not diagnosed until 12 or 13. Mine was triggered by a virus, and now I get sick more often and one week before I’m sick, to around a month after I have worse symptoms. Such a horrible thing to live with, My prayers go out to Parker.

My son inexplicably developed severe tics overnight when he was in second grade. Teachers sent him to the office for “rolling” his eyes at them. He was unable to focus on a TV or whiteboard without violently jerking his head and rolling his eyes. He had such a hard time...he knew he was doing it, and described it as an itch that he just had to get rid of. Family members tried to convince me it was no big deal, others that I must have allowed him to watch inappropriate programs (it was near Halloween)...I do not remember now him having unusual tantrums, etc. he had always been a rough and tumble type kid. While visiting doctors for an unrelated skin condition, PANDAS was suggested by one doctor. About five weeks after his tics began, we stopped just as quickly as they had started. I believe to this day that strep infection that he had that fall and PANDAS was the reason his temporary uncontrollable head and eye movements. It was truly a terrifying thing. Best wishes to these families. I hope that their children are doing well.
Wow! I experienced something similar in my daughter in the tenth grade. She started looking at me with these dead eyes. The expression “lights out nobody is home” can be very real in a child. She never had outbursts in school, only when she got home. She lashed out at me and her school tutor on a daily bases. Hitting and screaming went on for hours. She even busted in my bedroom door when I tried to get away from her. I couldn’t live like that anymore so when I picked her up from school I took her to the hospital. She was placed on a 72 hour watch by a psychologist who tried different anxiety medications to bring down her anxiety. After the 72 hour monitoring she was allowed to go home which service providers came to our home to work with her. This ordeal lasted 10 months and then just vanished. I had to take videos just so people believed me. This is a horrible ordeal to live through for any amount of time. Some days I thought to myself I can’t do this another day. I think it wears on mothers the most because we are the main caregiver. My daughters psychiatrist told her father and I that a child will take their anger out on the person she loves the most. My heart goes out to families that have to experience a child’s dead eyes knowing they are someplace else. Heart breaking experience.
I had strep a few years ago for a month or two but this didn't happen and I'm so glad.. Because my whole family got it and my siblings were 3, 8, 12, 15, and i was 11. So I take it as we're very lucky! As rare as it is we could've still gotten it and I'm glad we didn't!

I'm actually really sad they never finished this documentary. I suffer from PANDAS and it is something many people don't know about and should learn more on because many people actually have it and just don't know. I'm honestly really disappointed.

The contractor who built my grandmother's ADU's daughter, had at the time been recently been diagnosed with PANDAS. I remember hearing scary things about it from my mom, and I truly feel sorry for anybody affected by it. That, combined with a couple of other factors, caused the contractor to lose his business.

We've been struggling with my sons sudden change in behaviour for years after a particularly bad case of scarlet fever. His behaviour mirrors that of the girl. I'm just speechless!
Oh my god I knew from the very beginning it was about this. I have had this since 2015, 7 years now I’m still in shock that it’s finally getting recognized. When I had it, it started with a sore throat too and my parents thought I had seizures but I was twitching and back then there were very few that knew about it. When I was getting mad I felt like I was trapped just watching myself say bad things. Then after, I would always ask myself, “what’s wrong with me .” I really just want to be normal and it would drain all of my energy. I would never remember anything. It felt like it was in a dream and we found out like 2 or 3 years after. We went from doctor to doctor. I was just getting medicine that would not help. I gained so much weight on one medication and when I got sick I would get super mad out of nowhere. We learned that when I would get mad then it meant I was sick and I got no other symptoms like fevers etc. I would just get mad and what my doctor said is that when I get sick my white blood cells instead of killing the bacteria they go and pretty much just attack my brain. So my brain would get inflamed and that’s why I got mad but then people and doctors were learning about it . We drove so far to find doctors. That’s mostly my story and I’m still in treatment including IVIG and meds. I’m still in treatment but I’m getting better so that’s my story. If any one else has pans or pandas, I pray you get better soon. I would love to hear others stories too.

I feel so horrible for them everyone in these situations, the victim, the parents- the siblings, everyone.. i can't even imagine being in this situation. everything about it breaks my heart and i can't help but cry...
My 12yr old was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder last year after a long period of increasingly fearful, obsessive, and avoidance behaviors. We searched for answers, as well, but never found a triggering factor other than possibly the very beginning of puberty (which I still doubt as she physically is STILL built like an 8yr old boy over a full year after the onset of her issues). I’m going to look back through her history and see if she had strep around the time this started. She had a SEVERE bout of strep at a year old that landed her in the hospital for a week, but I don’t think that fits the parameters.

Thank you very much. I’ll talk to her GP, her therapist, and her psychiatrist about it. There are definite genetic factors that play a part in her disorder. I was diagnosed was a severe panic disorder with agoraphobia at the age of 22 (so that was 22 years ago!) and am still very affected by it to this day. But I struggled with anxiety and crippling scary thoughts and avoidance behaviors for most of my childhood. Unlike my daughter, I DID have bouts of strep several times a year starting at about six months of age until I was well into adulthood. I had scarlatina (scarlet fever) with strep at least once, as well.
I have pandas and for like 5 years of my life I had to take this medicine so I would not get strep. I also have very bad ocd
I think i had pandas too, it gave me ocd. But I can keep mine under control
@White Orchid I know, I don't think mine is as severe as these. When I was younger I was mainly aggressive towards other children and I remember feeling so angry I'd actually be unable to handle it and faint.
And for the times I didn't faint, I'd try to harm the other children, it's a miracle I didn't accidentally take a life because I didn't grasp the subject of "killing" back then.
But as I grew up I understood the consequences and my family always stayed by my side to support me. I still throw "tantrums" once in a while-- some things trigger these tantrums, usually extremely high temperatures or another human irritating me, or my OCD irritating me to an extreme level. I start to scream and say things I don't really mean and I break stuff in my home, but it usually ends with me crying in a corner, asking my mom repeatedly why I'm this way and why I can't just be a good person.
I'm not sure if it's actually PANDAS or something else but that'd make sense for both all the things that I've explained and all the other mental issues I've been having that remain untold here.

Also, it might be worth trying things like diet changes, yoga and stuff 🤔 I remember there was someone here in the comments saying that their husband works with children with Pandas. She said something about diet that helps with gut flora restoration or something. 🤔 (I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what it was)
And finally... how about a priest and prayer? I know this might be insulting, but, tbh, what have you got to lose? If anything, it can bring you closer to God... I dunno, just saying.
