Did you just do a drain and fill? Or did you drop the pan and change the filter? I’ve been told it’s a real PIA to change it all out. Local dealer recommended “flushing” the transmission but I don’t trust it.

The filter housing has a drain plug on it as well. You would use the ½ drive ratchet without a socket to remove it. Every OEM filter then comes with a plastic plug that you can stick in to drain all the oil out. There is also a second rubber O ring to be replaced for that plug that comes with the OEM filter. All that said, I still make a mess every time. Lol. Oh! There is also an aluminum filter housing replacement for the plastic one that comes stock. I have heard they crack often. I replaced mine the first time I changed the oil. Cheap and worth it in most opinions. Finally, if you are willing to put any "clean oil" in the diffs, there are a few brands that come in soft packs. This eliminates the need for the pump and saves "menee hooours leeeataer." Anyway, thanks for doing the video. Good stuff.

You never had ANY fluid changed regularly besides the engine oils at 234,000 miles????😮😮😮😮😮😮
You better service your vehicle! By changing out the brake fluids, power steering fluid, coolant flush, transmission (drain and fill only). No flush!
And the rear diff fluid, also front and transfer case fluids (if you have 4WD).
Spark plugs change, fuel injection cleaning, air filter and cabin air filter etc etc are probably all dirty in your vehicle at 234,000 miles...

I just got 2022 TRD OR so I have some time before gear oil changes, but thanks for the great video, simple, clear, and to the point. So if this is the first gear oil change after 100k, does Toyota come with regular conventional gear oil, or do they use synthetic from the factory? because if it's non-synthetic after 100k seem good enough? For the 4runner Toyota recommends a gear oil change every 30k but based on your gear oil looks pretty good after 100k seem every 30K over kill?

I changed my ATF at 100,000. It was very dark but not burnt. I’m switching to a simple drain and fill every 30,000 from now on. Use TechStream or similar, or the paperclip jumper method to read trans pan fluid temp. Pull check valve at 104°. Easy peasy.

Lol sir, that front diff and transfer case and rear diff fluids are ALL dark...don't expect it still could go another 100,000 miles safely/ideally😂😅😂.
Fluids breaks down and becomes thinner and thinner and becomes darker and darker over time and the oil won't be able to protect your diff's gears from heat and no more lubrication.

@@user-go6cj3zw9m if you look at the very bottom of this post, it lists the engines, transmissions and transfer cases used in all of the 5th gens from 2010 to 2020. The only mechanical difference in the 2020 models is one of the three transfer cases were changed. The 2020 models that use the transfer cases with the electronic dial used to use the VF2BM (from 2013-2019) but in 2020, they changed it to the VF2CM. I don't have any information on this transfer case, unfortunately. The good news is that this guide will still have the right info for the engine and transmission. Those stayed the same for the 2020 models.
