- Very, very good run. This was a seed where pretty much everything went right, apart from a few small factors like not having a compass. The fast start, shopkeeper de-aggro on 3-4, and a 42 second hell were all amazing (and lucky) things that made this run good.
The only realistic time saves here are in the temple with the somewhat slow 4-2 and 4-3 as well as Olmec with the hell door spawn being on the right side. Also shoutout to Krille71 for finding a consistent way to use paste bombs on Olmec since it wouldn't have been WR without it!

Ankh grab was fucking surgical. That was so cool, awesome run
With its combination of skill and RNG, its quick pace, and most of all the procedural generation making it so people can't just memorize the game but have to rely on skill and each run is different, this has to be the best speedrun game ever made. I just don't see how anything could compare.
Comments that say that speedrunners beat the game before they finish 1-1 gives off a huge "i can't even draw a stickman" vibe

darthm000 I think it has to do with them dying naturally without ever getting aggro-ed in a level ( ie if the shopkeeper is surrounded by spike traps on both sides at the exit, or something like that. )

+thatorange08 Shopkeepers will only chase you throughout the entire game if you kill one of them. If you don't, and instead "only" hurt them without killing, steal from them or damage the stores, they will only chase you for a few levels.

wow all those hell levels had easy to access exits, all 3 times I have been to hell all the exits had spikeballs and tiki traps on them.Also how did you un agro the shopkeepers?

+Dillon Kirwan Shopkeepers get deaggrod if none of them die in about 3 levels after a robbery. I believe they were actually deaggrod for the black market as well, but then he blew up the shop.

Similar to @Kurt Meyers, I'm wondering how there were no shopkeepers at the exits from the Temple onward. In all of my hell runs I've never seen this. How does that happen?
Michael Haydel if you don't hurt shopkeepers (and if they don't suffer a hit by anything, including killing themselves) for three levels in a row, they stop being aggressive. It's incredible difficult to do that, but he did it.

How did you know exactly where the black market was with no eye?
+ZelosWilder You can actually see the leaves of the black market entrance sticking out if it's one tile below you. It might be hard to see without knowing what to look for, but the leaves around the level exits are quite distinct if you pay attention to them.

You were extremely lucky that it was right near the entrance to that stage, and that the leaves were visible.
Out of curiosity, do you use keyboard or controller? I find keyboard a bit more precise, but being unable to bind pickup to a separate key makes the game fairly sluggish.

Amazing. Anyone who plays this game knows that teleporter can be a nightmare. How the hell do you control it so well. Anyone got tips for me on using the teleporter and not ending up in a wall?

Basically you have to count the tiles. You need to have the tiles 4-8 (5 tiles) free in front of you.
The guys that do these videos just trained a lot to do it fast.

Kurt Meyers I think he just avoided it, the one that didnt attack was the black market guy but he quickly aggro'd him as well, i could be wrong though
+SimpleVisionVideos Yeah, but they stop spawning eventually. They're not in world 4 or hell.
+Kurt Meyers if you kill one, they're there forever, if you just anger them, they go away
Late I know, but if you pass through an entire level without being spotted by a shopkeeper, they'll be deaggroed for the rest of the levels unless you reaggro one

and here i am patting myself on the back for finally beating yama :/ just realized all i am missing is the under 8 min trophy... guess learning the teleporter might help!

Anubis 2 doesn't stop chasing after you until you kill him. The only items that don't stay with you when you use an Ankh are held items, jetpack is an equip.

you should have telefragged the moai threw a bomb and escape with the teleporter and hedjet. you had no slave to bring the teleporter past yama
It took me 50 hours of game play to finish a normal run and now I have 73 hours of game play and I still haven't gotten past the hell level. Is this normal?

You're right. I just checked; the guy in this video has 2000 hours logged. I will now stop complaining.
+Spencer Barnett Don't know how many hours I have but I was probably at about 500 - 800 playthroughs before I beat Hell the first time. Even knowing everything pretty well and whatnot, I still probably only make it through once every 200 attempts ... can only imagine how long this speedrun would have taken to nail.
