Restore Us To Sanity by Fr John Doe is an old AA speaker tape converted to digital format for me by another AA member. Restore Us To Sanity is an excellent tape which explains what is actually meant by sanity? Fr John Doe explains how to continue along in sobriety in a state of adjustment to people places and things by using certain definite techniques to control emotional states. Techniques to:
- Control the emotional side of our personality.
- Adjust to life and reality.
- Remain more stable in life.
The tape also explains how to tell if I am a neurotic. Do I react to most of the time to reason, intelligence and logic? Or, do I react most of the time to feeling and emotion? One of these is neurotic.
One of my all time favourite techniques is: Don’t make a federal case out of everything. How many times I used to make mountains out of mole-hills before I learned this technique. How important is it really?
It takes effort to apply the techniques due to the automatic nature of old ideas. But by doing the techniques over and over, the new ideas will replace the old ideas.
Personally, I think this tape would be handy for non-alcoholics too because there seems to be a lot of neurotic so called “normal” people out there :-)
