Oh, my word. He just described my first message. But the addiction was not alcohol but food. My first husband "ATE & SLEPT"! I was so lonely and cried often. Thinking something was WRONG with me that he did not want spend time with me or our son! The story get's worse in the fact that I was sober and decided to drink again after 13 years in this marriage. But that is NOT and NEVER WILL be his fault! I own that today. However, I do wish my "therapist" had told me about Al-Anon. I have just joined them... after 24 years sober in AA I am now in Al-anon.

Father Martin puts the steps into simplicity. I do not know why people knock AA or attack it. Maybe the preferred treatment is Harm Reduction. Well the ultimate form of harm reduction is abstinence! My feelings are that the fear is the concept of God. I remember chatting with another addict and asking after dinner whether the night sky was nature or by design. After being told it was purely nature, I asked to put aside absolute belief, after all absolute belief kept them drinking, and just think whether it was possible, just possible in the slightest way, as he wasn't a scientist or expert, that it could be by design, he eventually said it could be possible. My response? "That is all you need to believe in a higher power."
