I think if they're driven ironically they can be a really good joke. Guy I know drove a 355 replica and had a sticker on the back saying 'my other car is also a ferrari - honest, I swear, just like this one'. No one took the piss out of him because the sticker took the sting out of it.
We bought him a cheap stereo and a ferrari f1 cd that he put on the roof driving around his local town. Hearing a v12 412 T2 (look it up if you haven't heard one) wailing out whilst he was stuck on red at traffic lights was hillarious!
The guy he sold it to took the sticker off the back and used to drive it wearing a Ferrari teeshirt and cap. We nicknamed him Enzo.

I don't really know how many C5's are out there for $10k, but that amount will get you a super-clean LS1 F-body. They're heavier and don't have the same near-perfect balance as a C5 but are great platforms for modding.
Moving away from those obvious choices, a Boxter sounds like a great pick. I'd just be weary of the roofs; the sun is really destructive where I live so any car that's been kept outside might have a weak and leaky roof.

For that price range, Mazdaspeed Protege. It's amazing how underrated those are and they come with a very reliable 2.0 turbo engine. They handle well and are fun little cars. The wagon version, the Protege5, has the same engine minus the turbo, so it's super easy to simply swap in
