I used to convert my CV into pdf, but I once read on a popular Recruiter's website not to convert into pdf, to leave it in word; pls what is the right thing to do, as per universally accepted standards?

Keep converting to PDF unless the job ad says otherwise. You have no idea what software the recruiter will read your resume on. Even if you both use, say Word, your application can look funny to the recruiter if they use a different version of Word..
