  • There is no doubt about it - learning how to memorize the polyatomic ions is hard.
    And, it doesn’t help if your professor makes memorizing them much harder than it needs to be.
    Lucky for you, this video will teach you how to memorize the polyatomic ions...
    ... even if it’s the night before an exam.
    In this video, you will learn:
    👉How you can apply the “picture superiority effect” to memorize scientific formulas
    👉Why connecting new and existing information can make the polyatomic ions “stick” better
    👉How you can use a location, like your house, to name the polyatomic ions
    In short, this video will show you actionable ways to name the polyatomic ions or any other chemical formula!

    Hi Johnathon, thanks for continuing to upload these videos and resources to help others learn how to learn. I'm interested in the techniques, but I am not good at visual imagery. My memory is not bad, I often use mnemonics and/or rhymes/rhythmic devices. However, I would certainly struggle to use the approach you describe in the video. Do you find that there is a variety in the type of approach that people use to improve memory?

    • @thenextlayer
      @thenextlayer Před 6 lety +1

      You're not good at visual imagery mostly because 20+ years of sitting in a classroom has trained you to be an auditory learner (against nature). Our entire method is predicated on re-learning how to be a visual / eidetic learner. We train you how to do it!

    • @MrDanrobbins
      @MrDanrobbins Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Johnathon. I have actually tried to work on visual imagery before, though with no success. I appreciate that sometimes dedication is required to master a different skill, however, I also appreciate that there is no 'one approach' that works for everyone. Do your courses include approaches for people that don't do well with visual imagery?

      Honestly yo, this is a more effective way for the long term memory. You use strong images so it sticks with you strongly. I don't personally use those kinds of images/symbols, but the idea is to use associations that immediately come to mind so you'll remember the thing being studied in 10 years from now. Understanding the concepts is great. I'm a professional science tutor and I can attest that concepts mostly stick with you, but the individual names and terms do not. These tips are not meant to replace understanding the full concept, but are best when brought hand-in-hand with the conceptual study.
