  • Fashion designers, rejoice! In this tutorial, I'll show you how to use Procreate clipping masks to take images of fabric from Pinterest and use them to create realistic fabric patterns for your fashion illustrations. This technique is perfect for creating digital fashion sketches that you can use to develop your fashion designs.
    I'll start by showing you how to add images to a Procreate canvas and create a clipping mask. Then, I'll show you how to manipulate the clipped pattern to make it look like realistic fabric. For example, you can add wrinkles, folds, and drape to your patterns to make them look more natural.
    Finally, I'll show you how to use this technique to illustrate a striped dress with lace appliqué. By the end of this tutorial, you'll have all the skills you need to create realistic fabric patterns for your own fashion illustrations.
    You can buy this croquis and other templates NOW at;

    What will you create? I really hope you like the video and I really hope it helps with your own illustration and designs.
    Please write to me if you want me to cover another illustration or fashion design topic!

    This is a great tutorial but man I wish I was as fast as you with the various tools. I guess it just takes time and practice! It’s especially helpful when you demonstrate warp and distort to create the organic look of flowing fabric. Beautiful!

      Oh man. St. Kilda. I’m south east suburbs as well. I’ve done a bunch of things overtime. Right now I am getting back into fashion and thinking to develop my own brand. Crazy as well - your affection for kimonos. I’ve spent a ton of time in Japan, and when I was there for an extended period in Kyoto, I had a kimono teacher instruct me on making one, which I still have, 35 years later. Such a beautiful country.

    Thank you so much for this video! I am very interested in studying fashion design at university (applying through UCAS as we speak), and so I am building up my portfolio. I get quite scared with using traditional colouring methods like paints and colours pencils, as I don't have a lot of time before my portfolio is due, and so this clipping mask method seems to be quite a good quick fix for my designs and croquis.

      Oh Im so glad I could help in any way! How exciting to be applying right now, my fingers and toes are crossed for you. Clipping masks changed my life! Drawing on Procreate is amazing I wish I had it when I went to fashion school! You must be so excited! What do you want to do in fashion?

      Great great video…. Very clear instructions although did gave you at a slightly slower speed so it did found as though you were drinking a glass of G&T as you were doing it but great thanks again. Just dabble in fashion illustration but this helps a lot. And the brush you used for the shadows is which????

    • @alexdouglasnewtonart
      @alexdouglasnewtonart  Před 8 měsíci

      For the shadows I use the gloaming brush. It comes with @procreate and its really good for building shade because its opaque. Its a lot like using a copic marker on paper.
