I would have LOVED to see Sylvester McCoy in the Anniversary episode. I started watching with Remembrance of the Daleks and it's still my favourite Dalek storyline.
i agree HOWEVER. this is the 50th anniversary of something special. A look back at what made it so great, a celebration. Just as the doctor said "Theres no point in growing up if you can't be childish sometimes" Theres also no point in moving forward if you don't look back at how far you've come.
....Colin Baker is my fave Dr...he is such a great actor, what he did with some of those scripts was just amazing, and Nicola Bryant/Peri also...the best Davros episode has to be Revelation of the Daleks with C. Baker/Bryant...best Dr line "you killed Peri"....
Agreed! Tom Baker was the same way after his stint. If Eccleston wants to move on everyone should let him. Maybe after some years he'll feel different, maybe he wont. We should wish him the best, be thankful for the great season he gave us and for putting Doctor Who back on TV again. Without his great season, we might not be watching it today. Now let the man be.
Well, when David Tennant met Peter Davidson and they did the Tenth doctor, Fifth Doctor special they managed to explain away the age difference as some form of strange temporal reaction to the two doctors meeting, so, they could go that route...
he's busy just look at how much he's been in since 2005. Although the bit about the typecasting you don't do Doctor Who if you don't want to be remembered for it. It would be nice if Big Finish could do something with him though I know they are doing something with 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
Would love to have seen a story where the Doctors of several universes get together, and each is still a living Doctor Actor, each from a universe where they never had the accident that led to their succeeding regeneration. So take Four for example. He never regenerates, but still has overall the same adventures and companions as Five through Eleven. This way we can have all the previous actors reprise their roles AND explain why theyre all so much older.
I think he said in a radio interview that he didn't want to return to the role because he'd done all he wanted to with it. He said it was his aim to get the show up and running in the best way possible, and he feels that he's accomplished that, and is satisfied with that
watch it anew! there's a sort of consensus around what the all time best serials are from the classic series - nothing from CB's tenure, perhaps one from SM. All the rest are from the show's golden era. Which is almost anything before these two.
Strictly speaking, Doctor Who wasn't cancelled, it was "rested" The BBC planned to bring it back, though they didn't know when would be suitable. However Big Finish started writing new audio adventures in 1998, and are still making them now, giving Paul a chance to get into the role, and is now incredibly popular. Colin took to it, and his audios are some of the most popular, he's actually put the most recorded hours into playing the Doctor.
I do not need to substantiate my opinion nor have anyone else do so - certainly on this issue one does not NEED to have much of an opinion as the facts speak for themselves. Attribute it to what you will - scheduling, formatting, scriptwriting, BBC politics, creative differences or casting - the Colin Baker era was and remains the very nadir of Doctor Who's history.
No matter how much flak the show will get, no matter how much flak the movie got, I can(I thin) safely say that most everyone agrees that all of the Doctors are really good actors.
oh your a special one. most people just notice my eyes or my hair style but you notice my hair color, yes it is natural i can relight more fires that way
Given how all of them have drastically changed in appearances (except for #7 for some reason...) I think the Big Finish audio play is the way to do it. Otherwise it would be strange to have them "older" after they've regenerated. The clips and body doubles from the season finale was a great way to pay homage to the previous 10. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a multiple Doctor story or having that happen...but I think it would look weird.
I'd love to see all the surviving actors back (even as other characters) for anniversary, but I doubt they asked any beyond David Tennant to return...It's really too bad.
If all we get is An Adventure in Space and Time and the 50th Anniversary special, I don't think that's enough, especially with none of the Doctor actors before Ten returning.
while it's certainly JNT's fault that the show ended, it's actually thanks to him that it wasn't cancelled earlier. He managed to keep the show alive during its last few years, even though it wouldn't have been in such a fragile position if he hadn't messed it up in the first place.
He's not got a problem with it, he asked for the part himself, but he only wanted to do one series, he said that to the creators from the first meeting.
I hated him to begin with, but grew to very much enjoy his roll as the Dr. But, I appreciate it now at 36 more so. I used to think he was nasty to everyone, and a lot like a strict teacher at the time. Funny how that turned into good old stern resolve later in my mind. :) Great Doctor.
Colin did a wonderful job with the material he was handed. The way he wanted to play the role and the way he was told to are two VERY different things. Trial of a Time Lord tried to do something *gasp* different. If Colin was given the freedom Tom, Jon, Smith, or Tennant were to play the part how he saw fit. I think hr would have gone down as one of the greats. Take the series as a whole and he's still good. We've never had an outright bad Doctor.
He played it just how he wanted to and was sublime. You might as well have lifted that chunk of parroted text pretty much word for word from every doctor who comment section ever (somehow even ones that have no relevance to the 6th doctor; they always find a way to weave it back). On the contrary, he had more of a say than many other doctors, ones that just gave their natural charisma (which is absolutely fine) - he discussed very clearly and discussed his ideas about the character with JNT. Your comment is very belittling even if that was wasn't the intention.
Playing the Doctor is a HUMONGOUS honor and Eccleston ought to feel DAMN grateful to have been a part of it. You just dont turn your back on the greatest role that youll ever have in your carreer and it's fans, he owes them and he owes them BIG. Appearing in a multi-Doctor story for the 50th is the absolute LEAST he could do for the show that put him where he is today
his doctor gets a lot better, although his doctor only really matures in the audios, his doctor was to start grumpy like WH and then over time become more mellow but he got sacked to early and it was never fulfilled on screen, but trial of a time lord is fantastic 80's who and you should definitely watch it.
Haha, yeah. It makes sense (to my logic) the coat goes with nothing, thus you can wear it with anything, because there's nothing it's SUPPOSED to be worn with.
I can't believe Colin suggests they haven't even been approached by the BBC. Even if they can't feature them in the special, surely they would do their best to gather them together? Weird. I know at least one would refuse anyway but...
Bells of St. John. He used underhanded trickery to get control of a spoonhead and put it in the Shard. And what continuity errors does 'the Doctor lies' explain away anyway?
I know ALL the Doctors and all the companions are gonna be in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary because they've all told us their not! Before it was announced that David Tennant and Billie Piper were gonna be involved they said the BBC hadn't asked them to come back! It is definite all the other Doctors and companions will return!....
To be fair, Doctor Who is such a huge British institution you have to be prepared to accept the fact that people may want you back, especially if they're as good as Eccleston was. Although I get why he doesn't want to return I still think it is a shame.
I find it funny that the reason why they didn't like the 8th doctor movie was because it was not British enough, but if you look through the history one of the shows original creators is Canadian.
The main reason the 8th Doctor's life on screen didn't go beyond the TV Movie was because the American audience much rather watch Rosanne instead of something as cool as Doctor Who. Despite the film's flaws it was pretty cool.
I'd love to see McGann back as the Doctor. There should be an episode sometime called "The Four Doctors" and it might include McGann, Tennant, Smith and whoever Doctor 12 is going to be...Coming together to stop some catastrophe.
I happen to like Colin thank you. I think his Doctor was a good spin on the character, making him an obnoxious showboat who was still ultimately the good guy. the failure of Colin's era was not on Colin, it was on a staff that had no clue what to do with the show and broadcaster dead set on killing the show by any means necessary. Also, The 50th should be about celebrating Who as a whole, and that means the good and the bad. Its all a part of the series, and it should be embraced, not ignored.
Alright, what about the Doctor lying to Ian and Barbara to keep them out of the TARDIS, lying to Sutekh about the TARDIS' isomorphic controls or to pretty much everyone for the first half of Invasion of Time?
Sad how they would have been so happy to do the 50th but werent asked. I enjoyed the 50th but it could have been so much more. What a wasted opportunity.
You've got the 10th doctor and Rose for the 50th. AND, here's my problem with 6 & 7 doing the 50th reunion: Doctors Don't Age. I admire 6 & 7, and they are definitely up there in my favorites. However, with that in mind, you don't the show to be less believable, just for the sake of reminiscing. I think bringing back Tennant was wise, and Chris Eccleson (sp?) had no interest in it, so that's that.
"Is it really as big as they say on the inside?!"
Colin: "NO ITS NOT!"
Colin Baker has William Hartnel's hair style!
I would have LOVED to see Sylvester McCoy in the Anniversary episode. I started watching with Remembrance of the Daleks and it's still my favourite Dalek storyline.
I. WANT. THAT. COAT.
unfortunately nobody sells them, if you want one you'll need to get it custom made, which is quite expensive.
Hi! You can get them on eBay, I’m thinking of doing a cosplay at some point
They've gotten older, but my respect for them stays the same. GIVE ME THAT COAT!
Two flawless human beings. Please get these guys in the 50th show!
0:31 Guy makes an effort to create the whole Tardis theme. Thought I'd make sure that it was not wasted. Good on guy!
Agreed. Eccleston did his part, and he was great, and has also moved on with other projects.
i agree HOWEVER. this is the 50th anniversary of something special. A look back at what made it so great, a celebration. Just as the doctor said "Theres no point in growing up if you can't be childish sometimes" Theres also no point in moving forward if you don't look back at how far you've come.
I have met Colin Baker, he is a great guy, speaks his mind
....Colin Baker is my fave Dr...he is such a great actor, what he did with some of those scripts was just amazing, and Nicola Bryant/Peri also...the best Davros episode has to be Revelation of the Daleks with C. Baker/Bryant...best Dr line "you killed Peri"....

I thought the first rule was: "We don't walk away." XD
Well, when David Tennant met Peter Davidson and they did the Tenth doctor, Fifth Doctor special they managed to explain away the age difference as some form of strange temporal reaction to the two doctors meeting, so, they could go that route...
0:26 that looks exactly like Rory Williams
In the classic series, the Doctor lies on numerous occasions.
he's busy just look at how much he's been in since 2005. Although the bit about the typecasting you don't do Doctor Who if you don't want to be remembered for it. It would be nice if Big Finish could do something with him though I know they are doing something with 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
Two of the best doctors.
Sylvester McCoy was my first Doctor. Might possibly be my favourite, but I surpose that's because of my childhood nostalgia.
Would love to have seen a story where the Doctors of several universes get together, and each is still a living Doctor Actor, each from a universe where they never had the accident that led to their succeeding regeneration.
So take Four for example. He never regenerates, but still has overall the same adventures and companions as Five through Eleven.

love Colin and Slyv :)

At least their audio stories are still impressive to listen too.
watch it anew! there's a sort of consensus around what the all time best serials are from the classic series - nothing from CB's tenure, perhaps one from SM. All the rest are from the show's golden era. Which is almost anything before these two.

They hired David Bradley to portray William Hartnell, in An Adventure in Space and Time.
No matter how much flak the show will get, no matter how much flak the movie got, I can(I thin) safely say that most everyone agrees that all of the Doctors are really good actors.
i love that coat, shame there are no replica's of it to buy...
oh your a special one. most people just notice my eyes or my hair style but you notice my hair color, yes it is natural i can relight more fires that way

I agree! If your gonna celebrate the 50th anniversary you have to have some doctors from the classic series!
@ LegoDaleks. I agree, the rule that ' the doctor lies' is just there to avoid continuity errors
bring them back in November!
Chris should auction that coat! He's already got Withnail's!
while it's certainly JNT's fault that the show ended, it's actually thanks to him that it wasn't cancelled earlier. He managed to keep the show alive during its last few years, even though it wouldn't have been in such a fragile position if he hadn't messed it up in the first place.
He's not got a problem with it, he asked for the part himself, but he only wanted to do one series, he said that to the creators from the first meeting.
I agree with the person who said that Sylvester Mcoy shouldn't be blamed for the crappy stories. He tried his best.
'six and seven' - like playing cards in some risible pack!

They've got to be involved! It celebrates the past 50 years of Doctor Who! And ALL the Eleven Doctors!
yes
I would love that coat.
Playing such an iconic character as the Doctor can ruin your long term career as its very easy to be type cast permanently as the doctor.
Playing the Doctor is a HUMONGOUS honor and Eccleston ought to feel DAMN grateful to have been a part of it.
You just dont turn your back on the greatest role that youll ever have in your carreer and it's fans, he owes them and he owes them BIG. Appearing in a multi-Doctor story for the 50th is the absolute LEAST he could do for the show that put him where he is today
lol this aged great
Chris has said he will reprise the role if something about it is good. Either the pay or the script, I forget which.
'the answer is yes, but what is the question?'
me: 'the question that must never be answered...!'
ah lolz.
his doctor gets a lot better, although his doctor only really matures in the audios, his doctor was to start grumpy like WH and then over time become more mellow but he got sacked to early and it was never fulfilled on screen, but trial of a time lord is fantastic 80's who and you should definitely watch it.
That's good if Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy might be doing the 50th episode!
Haha, yeah. It makes sense (to my logic) the coat goes with nothing, thus you can wear it with anything, because there's nothing it's SUPPOSED to be worn with.
so that's why they included the face in the intro - nod to the past
he did actually say he was up for doing the 50th but BBC never contacted him, real shame
I want that coat!!
I can't believe Colin suggests they haven't even been approached by the BBC. Even if they can't feature them in the special, surely they would do their best to gather them together? Weird. I know at least one would refuse anyway but...
1:10 the doctor finally becomes ginger!
The good dalek...NOW ive heard everything
Bells of St. John. He used underhanded trickery to get control of a spoonhead and put it in the Shard. And what continuity errors does 'the Doctor lies' explain away anyway?

Am I the only one who'd actually like a coat like Colin's 6th Doctor one?
I find it funny that the reason why they didn't like the 8th doctor movie was because it was not British enough, but if you look through the history one of the shows original creators is Canadian.

i agree plus it wasnt an easy thing for the time lords to do it took alot of power
I'd love to see McGann back as the Doctor. There should be an episode sometime called "The Four Doctors" and it might include McGann, Tennant, Smith and whoever Doctor 12 is going to be...Coming together to stop some catastrophe.
I'm so jealous I want that coat.
* that are still with us. AKA. not dead.
Wish had the sixth doctor's coat!
THE DOCTORS GINGER!!!!! (I know he isnt the doctor but as close as we are getting to a ginger)
they'll probably get Baker, McCoy and Davison
Seven! Come back!
I bloody hope the 8th Doctor shows up as well... He's only been in one film slightly unfair lol
At 0:28 it is rory
I would give my right arm to own Colin's coat :D
he should've been given years ago. Besides the title 4 (or 6) doctors hasn't been used before anyway.
only colin can pull of that coat
I hope so...
1:38 as my freinds would say, exe. Sylvester McCoy has stopped working.
Alright, what about the Doctor lying to Ian and Barbara to keep them out of the TARDIS, lying to Sutekh about the TARDIS' isomorphic controls or to pretty much everyone for the first half of Invasion of Time?
What's Coyotemation? And besides they could use holograms or archive footage for the three docs that are now dead!
OH THE HUMANITY D:>
0:15 that’s what he said
hey that movie was cool
Same way they did with "The Five Doctors", with a look-alike.
Off the top of my head: The War Games, lying to the British dude, saying he was a prison inspector.
Truth.
That last statement....it just made no sense
I know, I was explaining how it is possible for LegoDaleks to have seen every episode.
Sad how they would have been so happy to do the 50th but werent asked.
I enjoyed the 50th but it could have been so much more. What a wasted opportunity.
You've seen every serial? What about the missing ones?
You've got the 10th doctor and Rose for the 50th. AND, here's my problem with 6 & 7 doing the 50th reunion: Doctors Don't Age. I admire 6 & 7, and they are definitely up there in my favorites. The only Doctor I can say I think I won't like is Colin Baker's, but I've only seen the first part of his first story, so I can't really judge.
I suppose. I've never seen that episode, so I can't make any judgment - was the look-alike convincing?
Well, I can't know everything, can I? lol
There are reconstructions available.
I was feeling bored, curious and depressed
That's gone on for longer than a month
