Received mine yesterday, this thing rocks. I have seen a few comments regarding receive, nothing wrong with the receive on this unit it receives very well on the stock antenna. As with any transceiver or receiver, the antenna is the most important part of the system. I have mine connected to a discone antenna 35 feet high. If you want superior ears, invest in a good antenna system.
Just received my SDS200 today and it’s fantastic. I had 2 counties pre-programmed by Bearcat and they work GREAT! I highly recommend getting the programming option. Very happy!
Dang right it helps. I'm still a SDS200 owner wannabe, and I was so clueless before. None of my previous scanners stood up and did tricks like this one. When it arrives, I'd like to have some idea how to get going, so these videos are great. Keep it up!

Yo Paulie! Just got my SDS200 last week and have a question...how do I perform an airband [118.00 thru 136.00 MHz] scan? When I tried it according the manual, the scan just keeps going HIGHER in frequensy, after it hits 136 MHz. I want the scanner to just repeat the scan once it hits the end of the scan. Any help will be most gratefully received! Thank you.
I have the number 25 assigned as a Quick Key for one of my Favorites Lists. I have not been able to figure out how to turn ON/OFF two digit Quick Keys. Single digit Quick Keys work fine. What is the trick?
I have the BC785D and for +20 Years it has been working Even after I accidently Broke the Volume Knob --- it still works. On Ebay the $price is Way Too Much. I bought mine from Ham Radio Outlet from Used sales.

I would think this is the best scanner out there. Yet, I hear some unfavorable opinions, like it has a bad receiver. For a $700 Uniden, that was certainly surprising to hear!

It's up 30ft & I can get FM stations 130 mi away! I had an old bearcat but it was a cheapie, not a high-end digital like the 200. But scanners seem to have a protocol that the ham bands don't have. I heard everything is digital now so the 200 should fit right in. If I want to run the 8600 & the 200 simultaneously, I could use the telescope on the 200. I'm sure not gonna order it from Amazon though, lol. I really don't much care bout police & fire, but might be interesting. Meantime, I'll go ahead & watch ur video.
Huge issue with my scanner it simply will not save trunking set ups im really let not happy with this scanner seems to have a lot of issues very little help available
I ordered mine thinking I'll read the manual and figure out how to use the thing.wrong.opened the book and the first thing it says is "just like your cars owners manual doesn't teach you how to drive, this manual won't teach you how to operate this scanner". thanks to CZcams tutorials like this one I was able to figure out enough to use it but I gave up learning to master it after a week or so.its that complicated.after a few minutes I realized that some brilliant electronics engineer put the speaker on the bottom so you can't hear anything with it sitting flat on a desk or whatever, you have to either put the bracket on and tilt the front up to hear ANYTHING or use an external speaker.then after around 30 minutes I realized that this thing is sloooooooooowwwww.if for some reason it drops a conversation and starts scanning again it'll be a minute before that channel comes back around again.my 80.00 Walmart scanner scans about 500 channels per second or something.if it drops a conversation it's back to that channel in a second or less.not the sds200.it takes foreverrrrr to come back around to the dropped channel.maybe you can speed it up somehow but I'm not even gonna try to figure that out.so I put in my zip code and set the range and just let it go.if I hear something I'm interested in I figured out how to stop it on that channel after a couple of weeks of playing with it.volume.one person is blowing your ear drums out and the next is whispering too low to even hear them.same channel, same department, same conversation,one person is blaring loud, the other can hardly be heard.my 300.00 Walmart TV has smart volume options.maybe this thing does too but I don't have four years to get a degree in electronics to find out and the manual says it's not telling.its a good scanner though and I get to listen to undercover drug busts and stuff on wireless information networks police interoperations channel and I've enjoyed having it but it's not for a novice like me obviously.

RadioReference's comparison of the SDS200 vs the BC996P2 is if you want the colored display and a price which is twice as much, buy the SDS200. Otherwise the BCD996P2 has all of the same features. It's also much easier to use the ProScan software.
@DandyDon1 The SDS200 would be the best option, we have sold thousands of both radios and from our experience, the SDS200 is hands down the option you should go with in most cases, especially for simulcasted areas. Older models are, unfortunately, prone to simulcasting distortion, the SDS models are designed around this.
@@Bearcatwarehouse I believe that is what the firmware updates are to help with. I just updated my BCD996P2 in June. I listen to Amateur radio frequencies exclusively. While both units can decode DMR, I do not believe the SDS200 can decode Yaesu Fusion or ICOM D-STAR, etc.
@The Lowmein Marine operates on a range between 156 and 174 MHz, any scanner can monitor this range, however, some agencies use digital which would require a digital-specific scanner like this one.
I have been able to utilize someone else's scanner feeds but now due to officer Safety I am forced to go from listening for free to getting my own scanner in order to keep up with my Taylor Police Dept here in Taylor,MI. Which one is the best one really too get. I'm tossed right now between the handheld and this one which looks to be more a base model even though i know it can be put in the car as well but handheld much easier.. Mostly what do I need to get with it to upgrade it when it needing upgraded. Cause that's where I failed once before cause I had digital scanner but then it went out of date after a yr or 2 and was left in the dark again.. Don't want to loose out this time..

I really want to purchase this scanner but I have some reservations. I have a Radio Shack PRO 197 that I cannot use anymore because my County has gone to P25 phase 2. With the old scanner, I was able to create "scan lists" and was able to have a scan list for Memphis Police, a list for Memphis Fire, a list for hospitals, etc. I would then be able to turn on or off the various lists I wanted to scan. I am assuming the SDS 200's "favorites" is similar to scan lists. I would like to create different "scan lists" so that I could listen to certain departments at different times. I contacted BCW and they said if they program the radio that it would be one favorite with all of the agencies under that one favorite list. My question is how would I divide that one favorites list into multiple favorites list? I would like a list for MPD, MFD, Shelby Co Sheriff, hospitals, City of Bartlett TN police and fire, city of Germantown police and fire etc. Any guidance would be appreciated.
@Harry Johnson Yes, you can make individual favorites lists just like previous radios. To make individual lists you can use the included sentinel software, this software comes with the nationwide database included so it's pretty easy to navigate.

@@Savedbygrace-op5ko I recommend having it programmed, The radios firmware and database updates are applied through the computer so we would take care of this process for you. Also with the zip code feature, you can only scan one zip code at a time. With county programming, we can add an entire county or multiple counties.

It’s really not as good as it appears. Airband 118-137MHz has awful bleed through of strong channels (even with a Jim filter fitted), it just doesn’t pick up the same channels as my Whistler TRX2 (same aerial). It ‘hangs’ on digital channels which are active (but not talking). Sorry to say Whistler are better, having ironed all this out.
Also Close Call is terrible compared to Whistler’s Spectrum Sweeper. I’ve not had hits with Close Call whereas I get plenty of hits with Spectrum Sweeper. It’s such a shame because the display and features on the Uniden are outstanding.
I am obviously dumb as all heck. I can't make this scanner work for s#!t with either Sentinel or Proscan. Consistent SD card problems, can't program anything.
0:22... anyone who needs to have the volume knob explained are probably not allowed out in public on their own, so probably don't have a job, therefore can't afford this radio. Phew. Bullet dodged.

Will the sds200 scan both conventional and trunked system at the same time? Also using fire tone out will it alert during scanning?
