    Received mine yesterday, this thing rocks. I have seen a few comments regarding receive, nothing wrong with the receive on this unit it receives very well on the stock antenna. As with any transceiver or receiver, the antenna is the most important part of the system. I have mine connected to a discone antenna 35 feet high. If you want superior ears, invest in a good antenna system.

It's up 30ft & I can get FM stations 130 mi away! I had an old bearcat but it was a cheapie, not a high-end digital like the 200. But scanners seem to have a protocol that the ham bands don't have. I ordered mine thinking I'll read the manual and figure out how to use the thing.wrong.opened the book and the first thing it says is "just like your cars owners manual doesn't teach you how to drive, this manual won't teach you how to operate this scanner". thanks to CZcams tutorials like this one I was able to figure out enough to use it but I gave up learning to master it after a week or so.its that complicated.after a few minutes I realized that some brilliant electronics engineer put the speaker on the bottom so you can't hear anything with it sitting flat on a desk or whatever, you have to either put the bracket on and tilt the front up to hear ANYTHING or use an external speaker.then after around 30 minutes I realized that this thing is sloooooooooowwwww.if for some reason it drops a conversation and starts scanning again it'll be a minute before that channel comes back around again.my 80.00 Walmart scanner scans about 500 channels per second or something.if it drops a conversation it's back to that channel in a second or less.not the sds200.it takes foreverrrrr to come back around to the dropped channel.maybe you can speed it up somehow but I'm not even gonna try to figure that out.so I put in my zip code and set the range and just let it go.if I hear something I'm interested in I figured out how to stop it on that channel after a couple of weeks of playing with it.volume.one person is blowing your ear drums out and the next is whispering too low to even hear them.same channel, same department, same conversation,one person is blaring loud, the other can hardly be heard.my 300.00 Walmart TV has smart volume options.maybe this thing does too but I don't have four years to get a degree in electronics to find out and the manual says it's not telling.its a good scanner though and I get to listen to undercover drug busts and stuff on wireless information networks police interoperations channel and I've enjoyed having it but it's not for a novice like me obviously.

    RadioReference's comparison of the SDS200 vs the BC996P2 is if you want the colored display and a price which is twice as much, buy the SDS200. Otherwise the BCD996P2 has all of the same features. It's also much easier to use the ProScan software.

    • @Bearcatwarehouse
      @Bearcatwarehouse  Před 17 dny

      @DandyDon1 The SDS200 would be the best option, we have sold thousands of both radios and from our experience, the SDS200 is hands down the option you should go with in most cases, especially for simulcasted areas. Older models are, unfortunately, prone to simulcasting distortion, the SDS models are designed around this.

    I really want to purchase this scanner but I have some reservations. I have a Radio Shack PRO 197 that I cannot use anymore because my County has gone to P25 phase 2. With the old scanner, I was able to create "scan lists" and was able to have a scan list for Memphis Police, a list for Memphis Fire, a list for hospitals, etc. I would then be able to turn on or off the various lists I wanted to scan. I am assuming the SDS 200's "favorites" is similar to scan lists. I would like to create different "scan lists" so that I could listen to certain departments at different times. I contacted BCW and they said if they program the radio that it would be one favorite with all of the agencies under that one favorite list. My question is how would I divide that one favorites list into multiple favorites list? I would like a list for MPD, MFD, Shelby Co Sheriff, hospitals, City of Bartlett TN police and fire, city of Germantown police and fire etc. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    It’s really not as good as it appears. Airband 118-137MHz has awful bleed through of strong channels (even with a Jim filter fitted), it just doesn’t pick up the same channels as my Whistler TRX2 (same aerial). It ‘hangs’ on digital channels which are active (but not talking). Sorry to say Whistler are better, having ironed all this out.

    0:22... anyone who needs to have the volume knob explained are probably not allowed out in public on their own, so probably don't have a job, therefore can't afford this radio. Phew. Bullet dodged.

    This video is so miss leading. The radio dose not have to hold a system to hold a dept it a channel.

      @Justin Freeman
      no misleading info here, in the video I show you how to hold a system, department, or channel. Holding these isn't mandatory.
