      Thanks - yes presoaking is a common recommendation - but I don't think it does anything. All that does is it steams the water out of the chips. Yes the wood may last longer, but it doesn't really do much if you're just steaming water lol.

    Australia is the place for the Weber accessories, I have a 15 year old genuine Weber alloy hot plate for a Weber kettle which easily fits a Weber q. I have knocked back dozens of requests to sell it because it has been discontinued.

    I use a 6 inch SS pellet smoke tube and have been very surprised as to the amount of smoke it makes (much more than using wood chips). A full tube will generate smoke for 2.5 hours. With no burner on it will continue to burn by itself at around 110 oF (a cool smoke) as it burns from one end to the other. Its like a $16 pellet stove. I will first first smoke the meat and/or vegetable for 30 minutes to 2 hours (cherry for meat, alder for salmon and maple/apple for vegetables) and then finish cooking on the grill.

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  Před 3 lety

      Great tip. I will have to look into getting a pellet smoke tube.

    • @douglashouck6556
      @douglashouck6556 Před 3 lety

      @@ChicagoGriller Easiest way to light the pellets is with propane or a kitchen butane torch. Blast away for 40 secs and then let burn for a minute before blowing it out. I put mine under the grills and then blow out the flame. It should start producing a lot of smoke. If not, torch some more. With the Weber small SS Veg. pan I smoke fresh oiled cooked corn off the cob for 20-30 minutes. Eat as side dish or make into smoked corn chowder. I've smoked baby back ribs for 2.5 hrs and then finished off in the over using the 3-2-1 method. Delicious. Who say you can't do smoked ribs with a Q? Lots of options and recipes to explore.

    the branded Weber accessories are easily replaced by alternatives - eg: a couple of sheets of wetted newspaper replaces the foil drip tray. A piece of foil and a cake cooling rack (as you've demonstrated) replaces the trivet & tray. These are great BBQs / gas grills but we don't need to be constantly purchasing branded acce$$ories.

    • @ChicagoGriller

    Hello Gerry, I live in Sydney Australia. If it is true that these are discontinued, it is likely that Australia is simply behind the times. Being so remote in the world our importers need to import large quantities and use whatever means they can to do so. What is remaining is merely stock that can’t sell due to importing too much. Yes, the trivet and tray can be purchased anywhere here.

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  Před 3 lety

      That is a good point and is probably true for a lot of goods. Perhaps with Weber as well. Although I have read in online forums and see just in what is sold online, it seems the Q series has a much bigger following and is more popular than it is elsewhere, including here in the USA. So what's the truth? I guess only Weber knows for sure. In any case, these workarounds can help if you can't find these items in stock. Thanks for watching!

      @unlocated7448 Před 2 lety +1

      I live 10 minutes from Weber’s Australian headquarters (which is in Adelaide) - it has nothing to do with excess supply, Australians just buy/use the Weber Q series more than any other market. Only a few days ago I purchased the Q rotisserie no problems at all, didn’t even know they weren’t available to everyone else.
      If you want to buy anything Gerry, let me know, I’ll pick it up from them for you.
