Something I often struggle with is finding emotions in my body, I guess I usually imagine them being in my head. However with my chronic pain, that is clearly something felt in my body, even though the origin is sort of within my nervous system/emotions. A lot of the work I've been doing that has helped reduce my pain has been some hard-core self care, which included quitting my job. Love the videos Tanner, they are such an incredible free resource for us, I am very grateful for them.
Yes, I know at first I really struggled noticing my emotions in my body. It is great to hear about the progress you are making. Keep going!
Same here.
Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
Thank you tanner keep uploading your a life saver 🙏🏿
I'm so happy my channel is helpful!
Your videos are really great, Tanner. It’s very kind of you to make this available for free.
One thing which still has me in knots though is the polyvagal ladder concept. The ladder states that we have to move through sympathetic energy BEFORE we get to ventral safety at the top. So if someone is in freeze, they need to process the shutdown and the fight flight in order to climb the ladder.
But the idea of the window of tolerance seems to suggest that we need to get to ventral FIRST, in order to process the things keeping us stuck.
I still can’t help seeing this as a complete paradox, and paradoxes are just about the worst thing for a stressed mind.
Is the polyvagal ladder theory complete bunk? If it’s a predictable sequence then according to the theory we won’t be to access safety until we’ve processed our stored stress/trauma (fight flight), and moved on up the ladder.
These are essentially different models explaining the nervous system, and it is important to find which one fits best for you. Personally I have found for myself and with clients, that as we come out of a shutdown state sympathetic energy often occurs and needs to be processed. I wish you the best in your healing.
This is so incredibly useful thank you again Tanner 😊
I'm so glad it was helpful!
❤ fantastic info! Thank you 🙏💛
Glad it was helpful!
This sounds like a truly valuable practice for managing emotions!
So important!
This is the piece I've been missing in my work of healing.
Thank you soooo much ❤
So happy it was helpful!
This was soooooo well done! I recognize that sometimes I do this work intuitively (like a run to release emotions) but the curiosity and naming emotions vs just holding all that energy in. I’m in a very stressful situation right now and you have unpacked tools to help me navigate and stay in that healing window.
I'm so glad this practice was useful. I wish you the best in your healing.
Thank you so much for this! I learned the hard way that I need to release the anger in a healthy expression as I got so angry at the neuropathy in my feet and I stomped so hard I ended up on crutches for 6 weeks, so appreciate any advice on releasing anger in a healthy way!
I'm so glad this video was helpful. I wish you the best in your healing.
this video and so many others are like gold tanner. love you man. though i wish you would smile more in your videos!!!
I'm so happy it was useful. I will work on smiling!
@@painpsychotherapyfunny…I see you smiling the entire time.
Tanner smiles with his eyes❤
Another amazing video. Thankyou🙏 My friends(also in recovery) and I are always sharing your channel👌
Thanks for sharing!!
You and Anne are awesome. 🤩
Thanks for your kind words! We are so happy our content is helpful!
Tanner just love these calming hax. ❤🎉
I'm so happy my content is helpful!
Thank you so much for these videos. It really makes sense, although so strange as the symptoms can feel so real and scary when you're going through them you think "there has to to be something wrong with me", but then doctors can't find find anything and you are left in this terrible state of, "ok so now what do I do?" How can I go on with my life in any normal way when my body is being so reactive and is so afraid of getting the symptoms that I'm afraid to leave the house b/c I may get dizzy or can't lay down or take a bath if the sensations come on.
So to find videos like yours are very helpful. I think the mind-body connection is a lot stronger than many doctors realize, and how the nervous system can change based on outside stimulus and illnesses, and there should be much more training on this stuff in medical school.
How to rewire your nervous system into regulation and harmony again, and how to keep it there.
I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I'm so glad my content is helpful!
Such a powerful video!!!!cant wait for thr course. What if our conditioned response to the emotion is to brace , contract and suppress? My body has gone into full body contractions to avoid all emotions. I am dealing with complex trauma and fibromyalgia due to the constant suppression of painful scary emotions. I definitely dont struggle to connect with the emotions, but find my window to tolerate them is so small and I panic and struggle to create the shift.
So sorry to hear about your trauma and symptoms. Yes, when our healing window is small and resistance to emotions is high, it can be important to first utilize this practice with mild emotions and then increase over time. Keep going!
Thank You.
Of course. Keep going.
How much is your course Tanner? I listened to your story recently, and i identified with your story. I have issues with substances and with pain and its good to see someone who is recovering from both and doing well. 🙏
Sorry to hear what you are dealing with. We are actually uncertain of cost as of yet, once I announce the launch in detail on the channel we will let you know what the cost is. I hope my content can be helpful for you!
I too am interested in the upcomimg course.❤
So glad you are interested. We are currently editing the content! I'll make a post when it is all ready!
Great video Tanner ty so much, may I ask is there a resource available to offers different types of exercises or practices for expressing different emotions? I would love to see something that explains this a little deeper.
Yes I'd you look on the meditation playlist on my channel I have a somatic practice for anxiety and the dorsal vagal state (shutdown)! I hope they help!
@@painpsychotherapy awesome, ty very much, hey you do a great job by the way sharing all of this infomration, i just wanted to acknowledge that. :)
When will u be adding the group coaching? Will you please let me know when the course will be available? Thanks!
We are uncertain of this. Our digital course we are hoping will become available on June 30th!
When is your course coming out? Online , zoom interactive ?
We are hoping to launch it by the end of June. It will consist of online modules!
Thank you Tanner. This is really really helpful. One of the things I struggle with is feeling and expressing emotions around other people. I can do journalling etc but myself without too much issue. But around people I still get very self conscious and anxious about feeling any sort of emotion and then it gets suppressed and somatisized. How do I go about resolving this? Thanks!
This can be so common. I will try to do a video soon on how to work on expressing emotions to others.
@@painpsychotherapy That would be so helpful thanks! Will this be covered in your course as well? It's not just the expression that's an issue in social situations for me though, it's staying present with the feelings. I get a big automatic response of anxiety when I feel any sort of emotion in public . So that overrides the emotion and takes me completely out of my body.
Can I get a link to your online course? Is there any live group coaching with the program?
We are hoping to launch the digital course by end of June. Unfortunately at first there will be no live group coaching offered. Here is the link to our site: www.mbodycommunity.com/
How do I sign up for your corse this June
I will post the link when the pre-order becomes available. We are hoping to launch by the end of June!
Hi and thank you for this video 🙏
I have a question please.
If we have alot of trauma can we think of a event that happened in the past to evoke feeling and then use this method to feel and release it or is this method just what we are feeling in the moment and more recent events?
Yes, this is what I do with my clients. Of course make sure you are staying in the healing window. It can be important to work with a therapist if you find too much activation is occurring.
Thank you.
By going outside safe zone cause flair ups or new pain patterns?
I have been doing shadow work and freaking my self out. I need to learn this new process, because I know I have a lot of built up anger and shame.
I'm glad this was helpful. I wish you the best in your healing!
The other thing I wanted to say was “stay in the healing window” was crucial for me to hear. I think I held everything inside because I was too afraid of the strong emotions …. What would happen if I really let myself feel it?
So key! Keep going.
So good Tanner ❤ i’ve always been a “big feeler“ and have done many years of therapy including bioenergetic therapy, which is a body centered psychotherapy. But I find myself getting to a layer of rage that has taken me by surprise, and by storm! This is a very valuable video, and I really thank you for taking the time to make it. I look forward to your course. (Peggy)
Thank you for sharing about your healing. Yes, it can be surprising the emotions and states that occur long into our healing. I'm so glad my content is helpful. Keep going!
