    Hey Peter! One of your EMT's here! Glad to meet you and help you out! Sorry we had to meet under these circumstances. I wish you a happy recovery. I'm very happy we didn't have to break your door down, it wouldn't have been the first time I've been a part of that.

    Ouch! That sounds painful. I’m a nurse. They don’t let you eat or drink because if they have to take you to surgery, they don’t want you to have food in your stomach. You can vomit and inhale it and get pneumonia. Glad you are doing better!

    Peter, if they tell you to wear a sling, *wear it!!!* for as long as they told you to wear it!!!!! The amount of pressure we put on our non-dominant shoulder and arm while sitting at the table working or playing instruments is phenomenal (yes, I know - I have a left shoulder injury and know just how much it's aggravated if I sit too long at the table / play too much guitar for its comfort.) So please, follow through with the treatment they prescribe - especially the physiotherapy, until the _professionals_ tell you all is well, Then, for your own sake, go on making sure that you get enough full body exercise to keep the bones, muscles and heart in good trim!
    (Yes, I have medical training, so yes, I know what I'm talking about, both as a professional and a patient!)

    I took a nap and woke up with my elbow all wonky. I had a very physical job and had to take so much time off I resigned. Weeks later after one physical therapy appointment I got in bed and was scooching around getting comfortable and felt my back adjust itself back into position. I thought it was arthritis. Not sure how that much discomfort and disability could happen from a nap. Glad it finally healed. You did the only thing you could do. Im glad your friend was with you. Being in the hospital sucks. Glad you’re recovering! Yes please…I second the request for info on your gear here. Love the dark black.

    hey what the hell kinda hospital is that that puts you in several monitors and oxygen for a dislocated shoulder

    • @Taka_Takata
      @Taka_Takata Před 4 měsíci

      Exactly.
      Peter, I'm glad you're feeling OK, and you can be proud of being quite resilient too, making these wonderful drawings right after that bad experience!
      Now back to the hospital: I got to say that from a European point of view, it sounds like the typical shitty north-American hospital experience, where concern #1 is making the most money from the "customer". Understaffed, long waiting time, unnecessary technology etc. and all the while the shareholders are filling their pockets. Well, luckily the EMS crew were there for the human "touch" (ouch!)
      Dilaudid is probably the oldest opioid, don't start with any of that stuff! You should have asked for a big fat joint...
      Given your repeated dislocations, you should NOt leave it at that. With age, it can get really bad.
      The best advice I found in a quick web search is a French webpage. For a translation, connect to this website: tinyurl.com/y7e4etvj then in the Google Translate URL box, delete the HTTPS:// and replace it with this link: tinyurl.com/2cywt68o , hit Enter, wait a few seconds, refuse the cookies, and read. Directly through Google Translate doesn't work, only half the text is translated, or it thinks it's german etc.
      The specialist to see is an orthopedic surgeon. Ask the university for a recommendation, and whether they offer a better insurance plan.

    Oh ouch! I'm so sorry, Peter! I'm somewhat of a connoisseur of pains, from endometriosis to cluster headaches, and bad dislocations are some of the most excruciating things I've felt. I have a condition that makes my joints too loose, and I often wake up with a shoulder or knee hyperextending, occasionally dislocating, it's terrible! I'm really glad you called 911 instead of a friend, that was definitely the right thing to do. It's pretty bad that they left you in that much pain for so long though, they should have been on top of pain management as soon as you got there.
    I hope your sleeping self stops beating up on you!

Now my Mom had experience with animals and worked with a Vet when she was younger and she just grabbed my wrist and put her foot against my side and POP! back in it went! I remember it hurt like the dickens (to be very PG). So I never went to the Dr. Well for THAT injury! I do remember that I could not move it hurt so much! I commend you and sharing your experience is no small thing. Thank you for posting this amazing drawing and story!

But ive learned "the hard way" that I cant sleep with my arms up whether on my back or stomach or risk my shoulder slipping. Eventually learned to sleep with my arms down by my side which wasn't easy at first. But i first definitely feel your pain and hope you have a speedy recovery.

    Lucky you're not in the UK. I had a spinal injury. Laid on the floor, incredible pain, could barely walk. I called 999 and tried to get an ambulance. After a few questions, they refused to send one......
    I had to phone my sister to come over and drag me to hispital. Had a year off work and surgery to get me back to normal.

    • @recoveringsoul755

    • @jeffreybarton1297
      @jeffreybarton1297 Před 4 měsíci

      @@recoveringsoul755 I think if I'd started crying they might have sent someone. Later on, the only way I could get proper pain killers from my doctor was to cry in his office. I don't think he believed my injury was bad until he actually saw my scans, then he let me have Morphine. I think I might just be good at dealing with pain. Years later, I hobbled into A+E with a knee injury, and it wasn't until they took an X-Ray that they realised I'd smashed holes in the top of my Tibia and and snapped a bone spur off the side as well. They thought I'd just sprained it, judging from my general happy demeanor. That seems to be the trick to get treatment, cry, scream and wail.

    Glad to hear your better, Peter. Sounds like quite the experience. I dislocated my elbow in my sleep several months ago and didn't go to the hospital. I just toughed it out for like a week or so. Couldn't bend it, nothing! Completely useless and so painful. I kept telling my friends and family , id go in if it didn't get better in a day or so. It was almost 2 wks like that. Im so stubborn 😅 Anyways, was standing on my back porch on my phone playing pokemon go and about dropped my phone on the concrete. My natural reaction was to try to catch it and my damn elbow popped back in place. I was stunned but so happy. Felt like it never happened .How does one even dislocate a elbow in thier sleep. So stupid! Btw pain meds are a respiratory suppressor. 😊

    They have to stay nice and relaxed and they get as much info incase you loose consciousness or the call drops. I totally get it. My kids had this issue where they stopped breathing and had grand Mal seizures when they where babies. My daughter was 7months old her first time. My roommate had to deal with them cause i was loosing it thinking my daughter would be dead by the time they got there.

    I dont currently have access to a keyboard but i think I should like to learn Penelope Scott's song Cabaret. It's long but it has a lot of simple parts on the keyboard. It's magic lies in her emotion, how she gets louder and softer and you can follow the story without even hearing the words. I think it'd be a good way to learn, if you're interested in that sort of stuff

    I have a connective tissue disorder and my joints like to slip out. I know it wouldn't have helped with this situation, but for the future it can be a good idea to teach someone how to support your arm (grabbing it inside the bicept and the other hand above the elbow) and you can move your own body into the arm. It's much easier than it sounds, and you can feel where the socket is in this super weird indescribable way (of course the internet says not to, so ya know..) The one thing I try to keep in mind is to gently stretch everything (like the tiniest lean away) before 'landing' into place, so you don't pinch anything.

    If you are a full time college student, you might be able to get less expensive health insurance through that - might be worth checking into if your shoulder pops out frequently. Just a thought. Glad you’re feeling better now.

      I believe the word you were looking for was 'whatever'. ^^
      Anyway, I was struggling to put the difference between whoever and whomever into word, so here's some useful info I found on the internet;
      Just like who, whoever is a subjective pronoun and is used as the subject of sentences, clauses, and phrases.
      For example:
      Whoever made this cake is a master pastry chef.
      Just like whom, whomever is an objective pronoun used as the object of sentences, clauses, and phrases.
      For example:
      Give this message to whomever is working at the front desk.
      Hope this helps, cheers😊

      @@ptur12345 - It would have been “whoever,” not “whatever,” because the pronoun is describing a person as an antecedent, not an inanimate object. And yes, it would have been “whoever,” not “whomever,” because it would have been used as a subject of the clause, not an object. In your sentence with using “whomever” as an objective form, you are correct but because it then would have been used as the object of a preposition in the sentence, not an object of a verb in a sentence.
      Prepositions are words like this: among, to, from, above, below, between, inside, outside, in, on, into, out, down, up, with and etc. Verbs which have objects that follow them are action words like this: run, walk, drive, swing, skip, shake, take, shove, push, sit, stand, shoot, clean, talk, write, draw, teach, and etc. However, it gets a bit tricky with state of being verbs like this: is, was, be, have been, had been, were, am, are, and etc. These are followed by subjective form pronouns. So if someone calls and asks for you, you would respond with “I am he/she,” not “I am him/her.” It takes a bit of practice, but the use of pronouns in their proper forms can be grasped over time.
      But as a heads up, I don’t think the person above was really asking for help but trying not to be corrected, as could be seen by the use of the words “grammar police” instead of “those who know about grammar.” I only corrected you because you seem interested in the subject and were correcting the other person. Just so you know.😄
