If you haven't heard of the people slamming Tesla's self driven systems killing people then you're stupid! Self driving cars can kill! You the human must keep in full control and must focus on the driving safe!

Very thorough test with quite diverse results. It should be mandated that these systems all behave the same way as changing from one car to another could become more dangerous if you do not know how it will behave in a given situation.
I have a similar system to that in the SQ8 in my Q7 and love it overall, in reality though the steering assist is just there to catch your mistakes and still requires you to steer all of the time or be nagged. It is actually most useful in stop start traffic which would have been a great addition to your test. The other thing the Q7 does really well is slowing down when approaching junctions, roundabouts etc regardless of whether there are other cars ahead of it and traffic sign recognition is also stellar.
Great video! The Toyota Yaris has Toyota's previous generation self driving tech. The latest system which is fitted to the 2023 refreshed Toyota Corolla is far better. They call it Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 - the Yaris has the older 2.0 system.

However, one critical thing that I think you missed was graphical representation available to the driver. One of the cars provides a beautiful display of what the car is seeing and how it reacts. Are there cars to the left? To the right? In front?
The other cars have a postage stamp of a diagram which shows you almost nothing about how the car is making its decisions.
The benefits of having the big picture should be obvious in terms of safety and regarding the drivers decision should an intervention become appropriate. A car which communicates with the driver greatly increases comfort level.
One other thing to consider is phantom braking and braking for cross traffic.

Very nice video! I own a Model Y and use it for my daily commute. The car does a great job while autopilot, never had any issue departing from lane. I was very curious how well other competitors do in driving assistant. I guess Tesla is a winner here.

Great review! I think more motoring magazine /CZcams channels should do tests like these. Car manufacturers charge a lot of money for all this tech while no one ever knows how well they do until they own the car.

Great! Could you repeat this Test with like Bmw i5 and Mercedes Eqs against the Model Y and eventually an actual Model S? They're supposed to be the best of the best.
It does not surprise me that Mercedes could not supply a Drivers Assist Car, I have ordered a New C Class a year ago today with the package and I still don’t have a date for when I will get it. I do currently drive a CLA MK 2 with the Drivers Assist Package 2019 and I will say it is excellent.

What about Honda? We have a new jazz and it's really quite excellent at all of the self-driving assistance systems (adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, etc.)
Don't these cars have emergency avoidance breaking? My 2020 CX-5 will brake without the adaptive cruise control on. I have had it do it once just as I was about to hit the brake.
Toyota Yaris seems to have a different system from Corolla? It behaves differently when left unsupervisod and overall seems to perform poorly. I recently had a new corolla with Toyota safety system 3.0 and now I have a new lexus with basically the same system, with some different behaviors.

Yeah only Tesla and Nissan were the original car makers that offered full stop with lane assistance back in 2017 with the Nissan Leaf with Propilot.
What is the price difference between a Yaris and Model Y with selfdriving? double the price for the Model Y? Would be interesting to see the new Lexus NX or RX selfdriving which is more equal in price. Since Tesla has no car under 40K...

I do like the driver assist on the Model Y!
Bring in some Chinese brands for testing next time. Very curious about them. There are at least 2-3 major players in China right now. I am particularly curious about the performance of BYD, ATTO (huawei system), and Xiaomi (will come out later).
The pothole test is an interesting one - after having driven other cars with lane following and now a Tesla, I think the Tesla approach of knowing for sure who is in control (driver or car) is the better way of doing it.
This is not a test of self driving at all. The tests are all of driver assistance features. Tesla is the only one getting anywhere near self driving with its FSB beta.

When they can take the kids to school, or Grandma to her appointments then I’ll have 2. Until then I’m not bothered.

I have a Polestar 2 and it would have performed just as well as the Tesla in my experience. I was very surprised to see that the Volvo couldn't hold the lane at 75mph as I thought they used a similar system to P*

@@ciybersal9833what’s make Tesla poor quality? There is a difference between poor quality and poor quality control. Tesla has a bad quality not bad quality. All car companies has quality issues but it just doesn’t make it to the customer most of the times.
Anyone now If the Model Y is with or without ultrasonic sensors?
The one he used had no USS sensors instead it had Tesla Vision (cameras only) since there were no circular sensors when I checked at any close ups of the car.

You say that it’s unfair to judge the Yaris for having worse “self driving” controls than the rest because it’s the cheapest car, but if you’re going to have these systems on the car, then they should be just as capable as the rest, as it’s a clear safety issue. Nothing will be better than the driver being in full control of the car though.
You should have tested cars with the latest systems available. For instance in the S bend test, the Yaris you tested doesn’t have the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which has a curve speed reduction system which I have found is excellent on my Toyota that is equipped with it. It also has the emergency driver stop system which stops the car in the lane etc. Your comparing apples with oranges.
Sounds like they asked the Manufactureres for cars to do this test with, and this is what Toyota supplied.
if last years model is not up to the job, should they all be removed from use and crushed? perhaps a little extream?
should these safety(?) features only work for a year and then the owners take them back to Toyota to be upgraded (who pays?)
meanwhile, my Tesla was built 5.5 years ago, and on average it has received an update every 10 days over that time, some updates just add farting noises, but some also improve these safety systems, so my car which didn't have adaptive cruise control or lane assist when I got it, would now be the same as the 6 month old model Y tested here
@@RichardButlerUK Yes it sounds like thats what Toyota supplied unfortunately. Regardless , if you are going to run a comparison use a level playing field.
What Car should have insisted on a vehicle that had the latest system. It gives people the impression that possibly all Toyotas are below par which is untrue. As far as your Tesla goes the OTA updates for driver assist systems aren’t available on any other of the cars they tested.

A couple of weeks ago I went for a short drive up the A1 after some overnight snow had started to thaw. The roads were covered in a thick slush and in just a couple of miles I had dashboard warnings that my various 'driver assist' functions were unavailable including active cruise/lane keep assist. When I reached my destination a few miles further on it was obvious why, the front and rear of the car were covered in a thick layer of slush covering all the sensors etc. Because of the road conditions, it was impossible to see any of the white lines either. So 'self driving cars'?, not for me.
Seems like they have a long way to go yet.

I agree however you can tell from the drivers display it’s the old (replaced) model and not fitted with current tech. Still a poor result given their reputation for safety.
I think the TESLA should not have been marked down for the pothole test. They just take a different approach which is arguably as valid as the others. Their lead over the competition would have been even greater if they hadn't been marked down for that
What a great video, thank you. Really helpful. I would also urge caution with the Tesla driving assistance; my model 3 does not see mini round-a-bouts and simply carries on driving at whatever speed has been set!

Great review. Gotta admit, I was one of the unlucky folks whose Tesla Model Y had an insane and dangerous amount of phantom braking, and I don’t know if I would trust Tesla again, particularly because the phantom braking became really bad only after I “upgraded” to the FSD monthly subscription to try it out, but never reconverted after I unsubscribed. At the time, Tesla would only see me in service 4 months later. I couldn’t risk it because it even happened with emergency forward collision prevention, and I had too many close calls. I haven’t had any of those issues with either the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with HDA2 or the 2019 Audi e-tron, which is my current daily driver. However, I’m well aware that I am in the minority in terms of my experiences with Tesla. I have good friends who have never had phantom braking with their Teslas.
There was a period a year or more ago when phantom breaking was an issue, but it was resolved and as someone who uses Tesla Autopilot a lot ( as in over thousands of motorway miles) I haven't had that problem for a long time.

By very bad, I mean it would slam on brakes at least once every time I drove on the highway 10 minutes or more for absolutely no reason (usually driving towards the sun)?
I had a 2019 car that did brake on the highway perhaps once in a 2 hour journey. It was quite disconcerting I have to say, usually when passing a lorry. An update fixed it, but then another update brought it back again 😳. Then they improved it so that it happened much less often and now I can’t remember the last time it happened.
ADAS leads to disengaged drivers. This is because drivers' attention is underloaded. Please read the research on this. ADAS is a step in the wrong direction for automotive safety.

It would be worth mentioning that every Tesla has the features used in this test,whereas other manufacturers charge extra. It also provides over the air updates which improves the system over time. The Tesla should not have been marked down on the pot hole test, as the commentary said, the behaviour when the human takes over is a sensible choice by Tesla and no more or less worthy of praise than the other models, so a bizarre choice to knock off 2 marks. I guess they couldn't bear to give Tesla full marks in every test.

I agree fully with the first part of your comment but not with the critic on the Pothole Test Count, because one could argue that you have to engage the Autopilot again after avoiding something small that Autopilot ignore and if you live on a Street where there are a lot of Potholes you might just cannot use it. I don't have the Problem and like the System of my Model Y very much, but i can see the sense of such a test. On the other hand, a few days ago i nearly slammed a new Bmw i5 in the Wall because i didn't noticed that it deactivated itself at an curve exit and still had a little steering angle on so it nearly slammed into a wall if i didn't reacted very quickly. That wasn't the only incident. Don't know why many tests favour the Bmw System, this was the newest most expensive one that Bmw has and it was not nearly as good as the Basic one in my Model Y...
