  • Super Cruise is the best of the advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) on the market. It allows you to drive completely hands-free on the highway, so long as you pay attention to the road. Here’s a look at the system and how it works.
    It’s available in the new Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade, and several other GM products.

    I was impressed with the Super Cruise at first, as it changed lanes on its own. But, when it ignored the directions on the GPS and drove past the exit, I realized GM still has a lot of work to do.

    I can’t wait for this to expand to more and more cars. Visiting family involves long monotonous freeway driving where I can zone out. Not only would this be more convenient as a superior cruise control, it’s reaction time is probably far superior than my own after 8 hours of driving

    So if you’re not paying attention with your eyes for the required amount of time, does it make an aural warning of any kind? Or just flash the green lights (which you weren’t paying attention with - and would likely not see)? And then if you continue to not pay attention with your eyes, you said it would “shut off”? Would the vehicle then just wander any which way and still maintain your speed?
    My car will warn you with initially with yellow. Then if you continue to not tend to it, it will use red and a three tone alert. If you don’t tend to it then, the car will apply heavy braking and keep you in your lane (I assume with brake lights, then flashers once you’re stopped - I haven’t tested it to the complete stop in the middle of the interstate). This to me seems way safer than just “shutting off”. I imagine the driver alone on a trip, having a heart attack or major medical issue and the vehicle doing the best it can for the driver safety - not that stopping in the middle of an interstate lane is safe.

    • @prndlcars
      @prndlcars  Před 4 měsíci

      Many consumers think automatic lane centering is “self-driving” so this is a perception thing, not an engineering descriptor.
      Super Cruise is a Level 2 system, albeit the SAE levels of automation are a pretty garbage measuring stick. Level 4 autonomy is ALREADY here from Waymo and others, so self-driving vehicles already exist.
      Not sure where I lost you, but probably in between you talking to “experts” and me explaining something complicated to normal people.

    If the whole point of this system is to drive the car, why does it require the driver to be paying attention to the road? Kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me.

  • @markcarlton
    @markcarlton Před 4 měsíci

    Seriously, what's the point of such a system, what is the obsession with being the driver but not being the driver. Thus only adds to cost and complexity of purchase maintenance and repairs. It's for fools.

    I hate that having an opinion on the subject of some progress isn't good is censored. It sucks. This is awful. Watch the accidents ppl drive and text now the truck changes lanes when an accident is happening while other drivers move making it worse..when these features get exposed to -27 to 120 or anywhere in between for a year to 5 years. It'll break and end a life. Please stop this nonsense
