    The politeness features discussed in this video is similar to what I experience with my 2022 Pathfinder too lol... Especially with slamming on breaks when you set it to 1 car following distance. I got used to that sudden stop, but when you have other passengers in the car, they freak out when the car suddenly slams on the break for you lol...

    I have a Bolt EUV with the older version of Super Cruise that doesn’t change lanes. It is still amazing. I agree about the braking distance. It always stops but I sometimes hover over the brake pedal.

    I've been wanting to take some 5-8 hour each way long trips that flying to would be impractical. But I dread driving for more than 2 hours at a time so I haven't taken the road trips. I wonder if super cruise really is worth the high car payment of the vehicle that offers it.

    The Super Cruise subscription will cost U.S. customers $25 per month on a standalone basis, meaning without another OnStar plan/subscription. Alternatively, it can be added to certain OnStar plans or bundles for $15 per month.
    The need for a subscription is only now starting to come to light for Cadillac owners, since the very earliest Cadillac CT6 models with Super Cruise are only now coming out of the three-year included subscription period. For those vehicles, Cadillac has added a one-year extension to that period, though only for original owners.

    I find it hilarious that people will buy a $100k+ vehicle with that technology, but after three years they don't want to pay the measly $25/mo when they pay Netflix, Hulu, Apple Music, etc for $10-15$ a month. My Escalade V comes in next week and I will be keeping it past 3 years and will gladly pay the $25 or $15 as an addon for that convenience. By then, with all the updates, it will be well worth it. I do a lot of interstate driving and can't wait to use it.

    Like several software companies that have created a revenue stream with SoS (Software as a Service) car companies will be increasingly doing this, and several times people do not cancel, they keep paying the fees which is what companies hope a customer does so their revenue stream continues. It maybe a great option for some, but I would say the majority of people don’t need this option, it is more of a ‘cool’ feature than a necessity.

    The Super Cruise option doing a search online only costs 2,500 dollars for 3 years then we have to subscribe to a monthly service plan - I think with Onstar. Where do you come up with 22,000 dollars for Super Cruise????
    I would not get Super Cruise anyway, too selective with where it can be used, and I don't drive on Freeways. Nor would I get FSD that comes with the Tesla's - Too expensive.

    Great review. The subscription makes sense for safety. You want to always use the most up-to-date maps. And if they let you use old maps for year's, it could create problems. Like new lanes, new exits, etc. I think they'd have issues legally of they allowed that.

  • @gjsprophet5422
    @gjsprophet5422 Před rokem +1

    So, you pay a minimum of $2,500 for 3 years so you don't need to put your hands on the steering wheel, though only under ideal conditions. However, the system recommends that the driver pay attention to the road and have full situational awareness. I can easily see drivers becoming lulled into a false sense of safety, until they encounter a large pothole, obtacles in the road, large puddle, a kid's ball coming onto the street. Now couple that with drivers who are inclined to DUI, texting, etc. Anything that diminishes alert situational awareness is going to be dangerous unless the system is foolproof. Additionally, all digital/electrical sensors can be defeated, and I can envision crooks, pranksters, and hackers causing dangerous situations. There is no substitute for the alert, sober, and mature driver; at least not at this point.

    But... really? You have to say it's a $22,000 price tag for Supercruise? Yep. No overstatement there. Sure it sucks that GM requires a bunch of other options to be purchased before Supercruise can be added, but saying repeatedly that it's $22,000 for Supercruise is just completely disingenuous. I don't trust it. I've never seen any tests. Someone tried to cut you off right? The car hits the brakes. What if there's someone tailgating you. Hit by the one cutting you off or getting hit by the tailgater. I want to see a controlled track test where stupid humans are all around you and see what the computer decides.

    Why would you want a car to "drive itself"? I don't get it. You're sitting right in front of the steering wheel for the sole purpose of driving, so just place your hands on the wheel and pay attention. What else are you going to do, play chess with your passengers?

    Super Cruise is $22,000? Are you sure it’s the only feature you received for $22k grand, sir? If not, this is so silly. You’re not just getting Super Cruise, 1 feature for $22,000, unlike Tesla who _will_ charge you $12,000 plus $200 per month for a beta FSD feature that Tesla ain’t even done testing yet and it’s the only thing you receive for the money, nothing else. I’m sure that is _not_ the case here. That is a bunch of bs. I think comments like that can make the entire review feel a bit misleading.
    We do live in a world where manufacturers are willing to nickel and dime us by charging a subscription fee just in order to have wireless Apple CarPlay, or subscription requirements just to have the built in navigation to operate.
    You ever heard of OnStar? It’s also built right into every modern GM vehicle, but if you don’t pay for the subscription it is *turned off.*
    Ever heard of XM Radio? It’s the same deal. Built in capability in every modern GM product but if you don’t subscribe you don’t have that feature either. This is how it goes, it’s nothing new, except Cadillac actually gives customers 3 years of free service as the feature gets better and better with OTA updates. That’s unheard of.

Tesla’s system is not pre-mapped either, meaning their lives are solely in the hands of what the cameras can see once they arrive just like the driver. 2 totally different methods of achieving the same thing. What would Tesla’s subscription be paying for exactly? GM is continuously mapping more roads and adding them to SuperCruise with OTA updates.
