  • Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer sat down with WVUA-23 Sports Director Gary Harris to discuss the progress of the team throughout spring practice and why he doesn't show any signs of pressure that come with following a coaching legend like Nick Saban.
"For me, it's just about being in this moment and impacting the program (and) these guys. Enjoying everything that revolves around the fan base. Just trying to make the biggest impact that I can in a positive way," DeBoer said. "That means that all the history that surrounds this program -- the alumni, coach Saban, the other great coaches that have been here over many years, man that is what is is all about."
Alabama's annual A-Day Spring Game is Saturday at 3 PM.

I love the guy! And I think he's going to do a fantastic job. As a lifelong Alabama football fan, since I was 8 years old (I am a rustic 45 ¾'s as of today 😂) I was born during a national title season in '78, and turned a year old during '79. Got 2 children that were born on championship years. My son in 2009, and my youngest daughter in 2012. (For some reason I love that! 😊) Anyway back to Kalen DeBoer. I've watched some of his interviews when he was hired at Washington. He seems to me like he's noticed the difference in fan interactions compared to what it was like in Seattle. I got respect for the University of Washington, and know alot about their football history. But compared to the Washington interviews, he looks and seems like it's kind of a culture shock. Has anyone else seen any of his previous job interviews? And did yall notice the same thing? I don't think it's a bad thing at all. I think Kalen DeBoer will keep Alabama fans extremely happy. And I believe alot of Alabama fans, especially the ones that are around my age. We understand that the job Saban did, was just something that may never be outdone. But I also remember my dad, my grandfather say "Won't nobody out do the Bear!" So I will never say that some other future Alabama head coach won't do something even more amazing. Alabama would be the only place anyone could accomplish that feat. I've always believed that the University of Alabama is just a unique, exciting, football loving (And now all in on Basketball, and I ❤ it!) type of program that when they hire a special coach, or just a quality coach. They will win national titles. Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings, and Nick Saban. I think Alabama is the only school to have 5 national title winning head coaches. Correct me if im wrong. Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Dennis Franchione, Harold Red Drew, Mike Dubose, Mike Shula, all had a 10+ win season, had Alabama ranked in the top 10, in major bowls, some won SEC titles, etc. What I'm saying is if Mike Dubose, Bill Curry, Mike Shula and Dennis Franchione can all win a bunch if games, especially 10 wins or more in a season here at Bama. Kalen DeBoer is going to be just fine. Tbh, I don't think Alabama's streak of 10 wins + seasons is going to end anytime soon. Ok I'm done now! #RollTide

He oddly reminds me of Tony Dungee in his manner and demeanor.
