LOVE ME SOME JAGDPANZER! if im not mistaken, this seems to be a late war variant with the longer barrel and 3 return rollers instead of 4. would i be correct?
Tank soldier to the tank developer, we mostly turn the whole tank rather than the turret, because this is much faster. Tank developer,: Ok we will skip the turret.
Apparently, officially only the vehicle with the shorter L/48 75mm gun was designated Jagdpanzer IV. All vehicles with the long L/70 gun like this one, including the Alkett and Vomag versions, were designated PanzerIV/70 (A) and Panzer IV/70 (V) respectively. Thought that interesting.
Yeah well its a whole lot easier to say Jagdpanzer than, oh it is a Panzer four backslash seventy with a capital A in parenthesis. Just say Jagdpanzer L/70 and I know what you mean. Or you could say Jagdpanzer with the Panther gun.
Awesome stuff. Also nice to see the effort getting the visible crewmen properly dressed... Is that the Pz.IV Ausf J from the Saumur collection? (just too bad the tourist riding the Pz.IV) kind of ruins the scene...)
That is not a jagdpanzer 4 entirely. The Jagdpanzer 4 had a Muzzle Brake, this is the Panzer IV/70 (V), distinguishable by the lack of a muzzle brake and some other things
But the crews would usually remove the L48 muzzle brake in the field because experience taught them that the muzzle brake would blast up soil dust, giving away their position. After removal of the muzzle brake, those Jagdpanzer IVs would receive improved recoil mechanisms.
The poor Panzer IV, it should have been Germany's T-34/M4 Sherman, but instead they wanted the Panther. Panzer IV is pretty much my favorite World War 2 tank, save maybe the T-34-85.
@Kwoney "According to rough estimates the labour hours n in comparison to the Panzer III stood at approximately 1 to 1.25, i.e. four Panther vehicles for ever five Panzer III tanks built. Cost (without weaponry) PzKpfw III RM 96,163; Panther RM 117,100." Walter J Spielberger 1993, Panther & Its Variants p. 23.
The Panzer IV was never built to be a Medium tank but a support vehicle and hence had issues with mass production. The Panzer III was correctly built as Germany's medium tank but it was made too literally too small albeit designed just a tad too early with no lessons to learn from. The US and Soviets had at least some benefit of observing the war in the West. The British were just muddling through trying to build what they could under pretty much emergency conditions. As to why the Germans did not enlarge the design of the Pzkw III, well there was a war on, they had not yet geared up their war industry to maximum production, and Germany was refusing to look past 1942 under the wishful thinking presumption the war had to be won by then. The Panzer IV was a cobbled together Medium tank with the Higher Velocity 75mm and was not involved in any successful campaigns as Germany's medium tank. When Germany realized that the war was just going to be a delaying action so more Jews could be killed (Hitler admitted the war could not be won past 1942 and the Final Solution was just starting to be implemented) the Panther was finally pushed into production to replace the inadequate Mark IV's. Unfortunately the Germans could not mass produce enough Mark IV's or Panthers although they were able to modify the Panzer III into the Stug III which was Germanys top tank killer during the war.

that's a lie, they don't run as good as they are supposed to, they should improve reliability and mobility of their vehicules
