I find it simply fantastic to see one of my favourite tanks rumbling through the forest with such wonderful throaty sound! I really would have loved to be there to see this beast....
Hopefully as an allied soldier watching it being surrendered to you and not at the end of its sights ;-)

Nothing but a GREAT historic vehicle - those guys rebuilding her engine definately was successful as one can hardly see any smoke exiting the mufflers
localsheriff 1977 that's why it sounds so good
I had the privilege to stand next to a HL230 engine out of the chassis, without mufflers, when they test ran it.
The noise was deafening, indescribable. Screaming at the top of my lungs, my only Sensation was air leaving my body. I could not tell if I was making a noise.

How to defeat a king tiger: toss paint bombs onto it so the crew can't see anymore. I really don't know why this wasn't a tactic, a paint spraying crew would clearly be more successful than 50 Sherman's.

@@danielross7983 a firefly cannot knock out a Tiger 2 from the front, he has to shoot from the sides, and like tigers, they hunted at 2 / 3km, there was no point in calling any firefly, Since the Tiger 2's frontal armor in World War 2 was never penetrated
@@afonsoandrade2570 Too bad the mobility of the Tiger II sucked, and the terrain on the Western Front made long range engagements next to impossible in most cases. Outflanking the Tigers was a viable tactic, as demonstrated by the Americans in the Ardennes, where all the advantages of the Tiger II were rendered null due to a combination of bad weather, unfavourable terrain, and superior tactics from the Americans.
Good thing it was ordered with the optional Sport Exhaust System!
THAT is one loud-ass engine. You'd never forget a sound like that!
its just something about seeing one of those tanks rolling through the woods that makes this awesome. seeing one of these historic tanks driving in the wood like how it used to all those years ago is amazing.
I just love the King Tiger. Even to this date, it spells Fear.
That sound approaching must has been just terrifying to hear for the enenies
I find it interesting, that it's a much louder sound from behind, so that it was more difficult to hear it (from a distance) while it was moving in your direction.
Russian: Laughs in Is2 series tanks.
@@nunyabusiness3957 maus betritt denn chat
@@nunyabusiness3957 is2 doesn't stand a chance, the only reasons of why an is2 could destroy a tiger 2 was due to the spalling caused by the poor materials used by the end of the war. They needed to do a better version of is2 because even a tiger or a panther could destroy them frontally, even so the 88 l71 is enough to take down is2. Now if we talk about is3 that is one way to dispose tiger 2, but in the end almost 80% of those tanks were destroyed by nothing more than themselves due to the enourmous problems the tank had in the engine, transmission and fuel.

Was at Overloon back in 1963 or 64, can't exactly remember. I did remember the museum. It was much different then today. Basically you walked along paths through the Forrest until you reached a clearing and there would be a tank, no barriers or other obstructions. You could walk right up to the tank, touch it and everything including their Panther. Believe I still have some pictures from back then.
This KingTiger driving in the woods is the most beautiful thing in the world. I actually began to cry watching this......
can it still fire the gun ? can it go faster or are them just cautious
Im criying too :')

They used to be able to go way faster, but after 74 years, with no Allies lurking around and a bunch of civilian onlookers close by, there is no need to go faster :-)
you'd cry even more if he got in the way of an JS-2
To know what it’s like being in the presence of a King Tiger passing by, notice how everyone was just.. speechless after the last glimpse of that machine veers around the corner until it’s out of view.

As a history and military lover, I agree completely.
I tell you what I was a Chieftain driver for 3 years and even now that Tiger is a force to behold. The allies must have shit themselves when they saw them??!!
they only made about 400 of these so the chances of running into a King Tiger were very slim.

This is awesome just totally awesome!!!
What a beautiful monster. The true forerunner of today's tanks.
Not really. Post-war tank designs from both the East and West were closer to the Sherman, Cromwell and T-34 than they were to the German cats. From the Sherman the M26 and later the M48 were designed, the Cromwell was the forerunner of the Centurion and the T-34 was the Godfather of the T54/55 series of tanks. West Germany's own Leopard I does not resemble the Tiger or King Tiger in any way either.
Man so many feared that sight but it is truly breath taking.

Can't do it in public
Imagine being a GI in Mid-December 1944, manning an AT gun at some snowy crossroad in Belgium and off in the fog you hear a platoon of these monsters heading your way. Talk about guts.
You can visit the museum in Bastogne to relive the experience
I feel sorry for the poor blighters who had to stand in slit trenches while armour came towards them. If they got up and ran they'd be gunned down in an instant - the only thing they could do was sit tight, keep firing, and hope that the artillery saved them before they were driven over or killed with grenades.
This is rare to see a tiger roaring through words
Im actually surprise she didn't kill those humans
I believe they wait for a war declaration before they kill. These cats are disciplined.

The first tiger2 in movie for real
I'm pretty fucking depressed that I missed all this. If I had a car I would've visited, wanted to train but I don't think they've got a single fucking train track in overloon.
You could take the train to "Vlieringsbeek", and maybe take a taxi from there.
From "Vlieringsbeek" to "Overloon" is about 5 kilometers.
I think it would be not to expensive due the short distantce to the museum.
I did that last year, we took some bikes with us. Was perfect!
Last time when I took the train to Vierlingsbek they had a nice shuttle bus which brought me to the museum! Great service as always with militracks
That's a nice tip, thanks.
Militracks only had a shuttle bus in 2013. If you want a taxi you should try train station Venray. Vierlingsbeek (correct spelling) is too small to have any taxi's.
Its crazy how modern looking it is

My GOD our great grandpas had to be tough.

The King Tiger is an awesome beast. If only they had more powerful engines and had been more reliable.
I live in walking distance to the Hürtgen Forest and the Ardennes. There is a small village in the Ardennes (Belgium side) with a King Tiger in the center of the village. You can see that it got hit several times but the armor was not penetrated. Its in good shape but I doubt that the engine is still running.
La Gleize.. Kampfgruppe Peiper's final stand and where many vehicles were abandoned through the withdrawal of German Forces.. A good bottle of cognac was traded for the vehicle to be retained in the village. Must have been some bottle of cognac to be worth 800,000RM
Most of the damage on the (frontal) glacis comes from GIs practicing with Bazookas on the already abandoned tank. There is a video somewhere on CZcams where you actually see them doing so. The KT at the Gleize sports the long 75mm gun from a Panther as its own 88mm long gun was damaged during the battle.
@@Toxofox Most of the hits on the front armor are not from bazookas. Bazookas have a hollow charge. I don't want to get in trouble with the law but we found lots of Panzerfaust in the hürtgen forest when I was young and did some experiments. If you don't hit the armor at the right angle it will do nothing. A bag of sand will also stop a hollow charge.
@@seanrh4294 definitely bazooka. I'll try and find the video for you.
None of the hits penetrated. I believe no king tiger was ever penetrated on the frontal arc (glacis) anyway.
It’s Tiger 213 and was knocked out on 22nd December. It served as SS Obersturmfuhrer Dillinger’s command tank at La Gleize after his tank 009 had broken down.

Porsche actually lost the design bid for the Tiger because his version was so awful (even by heavy tank standards) that the Nazis rejected it. The hulls he had already built were repurposed into a tank destroyer (that was just as bad).

Judging by its design and size, it looks very modern. I imagine if you put a more powerful engine, a bigger gun in it and a few high-tech bits and bobs,, it would not be out of place on today's battle field.

there are no german tanks with a "rounded front" and if you're talking about the Krupp prototype production model then that as stated comes before the Henschel production turret which is flat.
@@Insomniac3d He meant Tiger 1, dude...
Yes, Tiger 1 is not "rounded" per say, he meant it metaphorical ; as the Tiger 1 has a bigger, bulkier front, compared to the Tiger 2. He even said "older sister".
Tiger 2 has sloped frontal armor, that's why he says "flat-chest".

King Tiger
Anakin, have you ever heard the legend of King Tiger the Heavy? I thought not, it is not a Wheeraboo legend.
King Tiger was so well-armoured he could protect himself from death. The only thing he feared was loss of mobility.
Ironically, his own transmission couldn‘t stand carrying all this armor and eventually betrayed and murdered King Tiger.
A restored Sherman and Royal Tiger are parked next to each other at a festival.
Sherman: You know, all these young kids are going around saying that you could kick my ass.
Tiger: Idiots, all of them. The war ended eighty years ago. Why would we go back to fighting?
Sherman: But do you sometimes wonder? Who would win if we fought again?
Tiger: My friend, we are survivors. Let the children make their stories about who would win. We have no need to fight, because know the truth: we both won by surviving that terrible war. Our prize is that we may spend our days in peace, teaching the younger generations about our bloody histories in hope that it will never be repeated.
Sherman: You're right...we should leave the fighting for the new machines.
"Königstiger" is an informal nickname. The official designation of the tank was Pzkfw VI ausf B "Tiger II". It was undoubtedly a beast, but unfortunately for the Wehrmacht it was also too much sophisticated, too heavy for most of contemporary bridges, and far too costly to produce. Its fuel consumption was huge, while the Third Reich had no more petrol reserves ! Less than 500 Tiger II were built, compared to 55000 Sherman or 75000 T-34... Moreover, allied heavy tanks equal or superior to the Tiger II, like the soviet JS-3, US M26 Pershing or british Centurion were ready to enter service in 1945-46.
It is just so wonderful and lovely. 🥰👍
